You should build a line there next year and put it out as a video part rather than bother with the competition side of it. Do it for freeride and the fans, not a redbull trophy.

They should call it Redbull Ramps next year. But seriously there’s no way redbull can ignore the hand grenades that have gone off in the comments. Every rampage video, even from the other riders has mention of Brendogs line. Read the room.
Yes because brendons entire run had every freature completely groomed. Even the" jordie drop" that he turned into a roller had sand bags halfway down and shovel packed like a sidewalk. That is hypocrisy at its finest.
Call a spade a spade. You either do new venue, no tools no practice no nothing or you keep with the progression the way its going. You can't say one buffed line is more raw than another buffed line and say it's more "rampage" that is just completly obsurd
Im glad you guys said you are proud of your achievements at Rampage. You bloody well should be. They were colossal. The fans are the ultimate judges, and plenty of us know your run deserved a far higher score. It seems a political element has encroached on the event and the scoring.
Good to hear Brendog and Olly's take on the whole thing, if the judging is what people are saying it is I won't be watching Rampage again. Hardline is about the only R.B. event I can be bothered with these days.
The fact judges came up....says to me there is too much politics....redbull obviously have a narrative they want...it was obvious in both judging and commentating.
yeah there is politics involved, not saying you had to win, but your score makes no sense. the fact that the judges couldnt explain the score speaks volumes about this. rampage also is turning into a slopestyle competition tbh. which most people online dont like, and the people there dont like aswell.
It's interesting that towards the end of that chat I heard "everyone's idea of Rampage is different". That's because it has an identity crisis. If the event doesn't know what it is, people will make it what they want. It's so far away from what it used to be.
They need to introduce a rule where you can only share say 20% of your line with one other rider, so you don’t get a 20 man dig team building one groomed slope style course line that half the field use. Judging should score like a freeride ski comp Line choice - individual lines score higher, use of the land (making a feature of an existing item over just building jumps) amplitude Style speed tricks This years was watching half the field put down very samey lines, groomed jumps allowing double flips etc How Bren scored so low is crazy, how a front flip from TVS didn’t podium?!

They are essentially saying you need to be a Slopestyle rider to win now. All respect to your efforts, the judges may not see it, but the fans sure do!

I hate to tell you, but that is what freeride is. You can only ride something so steep till it turns into a drop and you can only do a drop so big until the landing has to be shaped. If you want to pigeon hole the sport so that there is no way to progress and make it so a top 10 competitor has the chance of winning first then ban all tricks including flips, no handers and everything. Seems pretty lame to me. I wanna see the premier freeride event to continue to progress. I vote completly new raw venue. All tricks are rewarded as that is what separates the men from the people identifying as men and no sand bags, no tools, no land modification and no practice. Before the score came in I expected it to be in the mid '80s and I still think thats what the line and execution should have gotten. Because I wasn't being naive, I did not expect a winning score - the event has moved to 'slope style tricks or bust', so there was no chance for that. But when you're the crew who had the only truly unique line without parking lot sized landings for a couple of "insane amplitude" tricks in an event that was actually born out of unique, difficult and as natural as possible lines, you gotta get a little goodwill for that in the score even in 2024. And then we hear stuff like "he makes it look too easy, but its not actually easy" or "maybe the canyon backflip didn't get the judge's approval because he done it before" and you realize there is probably no point for Bren in coming back next year (by application, no less) - and likewise many others too. Rough go mate! I my opinion Brendog, you had the most “rampage” run, absolute gnarly line down the mountain with a few tricks (what rampage was originally) not a slope style contest. No shade against the other competitors! Everyone that competes in rampage is an insane rider. I think redbull rampage needs to think about what the event actually is at its core. Just my thoughts. ✌️ lads and keep up the sick content
You really have the spirit of Rampage. If you go back and look at historical footage, you represent the true feel of Rampage. Is it impressive to see double backflips or front flips off groomed jumps? Damn right, but that is not rampage. Building a line that uses the natural terrain and is unique to you, it what rampage is all about. I was really pissed at your score and honestly will think twice about supporting RR next year.
I don’t blame the judges, I blame the judging criteria. If you compare red bull rampage and slopestyle it is nearly identical. However, to be fair, the criteria hasn’t changed much from the early days of red bull rampage, but the progression in the sport has. What would make judging these events easier and make it better for athletes and for fans is to alter the criteria for this event so that riders are challenged to diversify their skill sets. Have a component that would require riders to build challenging chutes and unique features like Brendan’s and make amplitude and line choice worth more than tricks and be very transparent about it so riders can train towards that throughout the year in preparation. I think this would greatly level the playing field and push the sport in new exciting ways. If all else fails start a new competition for the sport, Monster Mayhem?
We as mountainbikers see how hard Brendogs line was. But Rampage in it self is mostly there for marketig reasons. It will show up on nearly every social media feed world wide. Not only in our mtb bubble. A non Mtb person is much more impressed by a big trick, or a big jump/drop, than by a steep an techy line, like yours. Thats the reason the event develops in the direction it is going i would say. In my opinion you and some other real freeriders like Brage, Clemens etc. should start your own event. Only triple crown bikes, judging by the other riders etc.
It's awesome to hear you guys give your thoughts, and I know how long drives are kinda stimulating that way. But can you guys do something....anything for audio...that road noise is brutal haha.
Godzieks double was huge and ballsy, not like some of the slopestyle crap that scored. The routes should be techy and exposed, big vert, technical when the wheels are on the ground. Not just in the air. Brens step up onto nothing was pure rampage
Best line outside of the battleship... score should have started at an 85 and gone from there... those kind of "built from scratch" lines that are pushing the limits need to be judged on their own merit not against a slope style line built from a previous years work... clearly apples and oranges
They should just put a cap on the amount of tricks you can do… maybe limit everyone to three bangers or something… that would make the slopestyle guys go, “ well if I can only do 3, then I gotta make my run sick some other way”… and they only other ways are either sketchy/ ungroomed, bigger drops/gaps, steep n deep, and style… I dunno I’m just spitballing LOL
Glad to hear you’ve got a balanced and circumspect view of what happened. I feel like as a comp it’s just flawed now. Your comments about most riders hitting top to bottoms on day one of practice and only using the perfect landings nailed it for me. Hold your heads high!
It’s pretty clear that the judges rewarded trick difficulty and amplitude. Your run wasn’t close in those aspects. Tho it was a really sick line. If the judges didn’t make that clear in rider meetings, I think that was their biggest mistake.
So basically Bredog cant do other riders' slopestyle tricks and the other riders cant do Brendog's big mountain lines, and it's tough to judge which should be scored higher? At a big mountain comp? Fundamentally that proves the point that Rampage has an identity crisis.
You should have been in the top 5. The rest is opinion. But when they give you a 76, they are basically telling you there's no chance for a good result. . It's like spitting in your face.
Time to get Monster on board to do their own event that looks at lines as well as tricks fairly. Get all those others you were talking about and do your own one.
This happened to Brendog for 2 years BUT imagine this was his START of the career, now make it 10 down the road with same pattern, would you still take the BS? He'd voice his opinion a lot sooner. Bren is very well situated in life that's why he don't feel the need to speak out like Tom did. The fact is ski-jumping, ski-freestyle/freeride, Natural Selection judges all score athletes with the same difficulty and community agrees with majority of the ratings, yet judges at Rampage somehow can't and that's what bothers me.
They are turning it into a bike park event and many of us find that boring. Brendan's crew built a knarly track that was much more fun to watch. For that we congratulate and thank you. To me, the women had the same problem. There were some sick tracks, but that was not worth points from the judges.
They need to figure out what Rampage is. Until then, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Is it….? Loved watching you and your team! Congrats on an extremely successful build and run🤘🍻
I am proud of you guys and the work that was put in for that creative, and tribute run that was put down cleanly by Brendan. It is a shame that the event has to be more of slopestyle with completely manicured jumps and landings than the raw creativeness that freeride should be. I still believe that you should have been up near the top score than what the judges gave. It is absolutely ridiculous. My opinion, and now a bigger fan of Brendan than ever, so you might have made out even though you did not win😂
I'd honestly understand if you didn't want to go back next year, it'd be a damned shame for you not to be there but I'd fully understand. You're underappreciated
Handing the red bull was a disrespectful moment…. they need to do two podiums free Ride and slope-style best of both worlds and a king of rampage people’s choice But to be fair I’m only viewing for the food reviews and updates 😂
the only fix is that tricks are only 10% of the score at most. but chutes have never scored well. you took out the big air up top. other than switching places with Kyle, they placed yoy fairly well unfortunately.
Seems judging needs to be done by certain criteria. For example. Difficulty of course attempted. 50% Tricks completed. 20% Number of tricks. 20% Number of riders using the same line.10% Then the riders and builders know where they stand.
They need to make up their mind what rampage is. Is it a freeride contest or a big mountain slopestyle contest. That and be verry clear before the competition what they are looking for AND stick to that. Is it a gnarly line, big single tricks, amount of tricks etc. The main problem is that "we" don't understand why the outcome is what it is.
It was brilliant entertainment following you in the desert... Can't you crowdfund a trip into the middle of nowhere where you dig, vlog and ride a week next year?
At the very least a podium!?😏 it comes down to what is the event, free ride or slope style!?🤷🏼♂️ sadly all this years rampage will be remembered for is this!😕 It over shadowed every run afterwards!
Point system doesn't work at rampage. I think it needs to be rethought and something better next year. I think three was a loads of riders who was hard done by. Tom vanstevburgan was the winning run in my eyes
What got me is the constant comments that I've read/heard, you made it look too easy, if you were out of control it would have looked radder and more sketchy, but you just were in total control, so 😕 My question now is, Fool me once, Shame on you: Fool me Twice, Shame on me: Fool me three times.....
Brendogs line was gnarly. Which is what redbull rampage should be about. Natural steep gnarly dangerous riding. Its turned into a slope style comp. Should of been Higher up the score board but hey ho.. i doubt ill watch it next year. Hardline is about the only hardcore dh style riding left.
They scored you out of it so that it can be pure slope style next year. Loved watching all of your vlogs but don’t waste your time with them. Start your own free ride comp

They judge based on the judging criteria, crucially, rather than whether they personally are stoked on a run. Based on that, consistantly high speed, riskier tricks and hitting bigger drops and jumps will always score higher. They could change the way that works so tech chutes, originality and 'natural' features score over groomed landings etc but until then this will always happen. Huge respect to Bren and the boys for giving it your all, you did what you went to do and nailed it.

Your run was insanity.
Cannot wait for my LADSCIENCE tshirt to come!!!
When you give it your all, there is no need for apologies.Top notch lads🎉 much respect.
Double backflips are not what Rampage was originally. Slopestyle comps are the home of tricks.
They should just put a cap on the amount of tricks you can do… maybe limit everyone to three bangers or something… that would make the slopestyle guys go, “ well if I can only do 3, then I gotta make my run sick some other way”… and they only other ways are either sketchy/ ungroomed, bigger drops/gaps, steep n deep, and style… I dunno I’m just spitballing LOL
solid idea
Glad to hear you’ve got a balanced and circumspect view of what happened. I feel like as a comp it’s just flawed now. Your comments about most riders hitting top to bottoms on day one of practice and only using the perfect landings nailed it for me. Hold your heads high!
I appreciate that!
You should not return to rampage. Its too much disrespect.
Been waiting for this all week. 😬
If I was ever to compete I think I'd only enter timed events. Judging for Rampage is just subjective
Didn’t take the red bull at the finish mate couldn’t have someone on the podium without a can of red bull in hand
VinnyT is the man. Would love to see some freeride shenanigans with Brendog, Kaos, Kade, Brage and VinnyT
It's entirely subjective.Organize your own event ! Big events are like civilisations. They wither and die from within.
The boo’ing said it all
Maybe it would be better with no scoring, like DarkFest.
The "moms basement and packet of cheetos" comment was gold
Dont matter, as long as the sport grows ... make your guys own competitions
make full travel suspension bikes mandatory.
I'd honestly understand if you didn't want to go back next year, it'd be a damned shame for you not to be there but I'd fully understand. You're underappreciated
big up
Where are you guys going? That’s what I want to know.
DYFI
You hit the nail on the head - top-to-bottom should not be easy, like some other events. Otherwise, it's just a Slopestyle comp Again.
Not defending the judges but I honestly don't know how you score an event like Rampage to be fair
Handing the red bull was a disrespectful moment….
they need to do two podiums free Ride and slope-style best of both worlds and a king of rampage people’s choice
But to be fair I’m only viewing for the food reviews and updates 😂
I was at the event live and hiked some lines. I think your run should have been under sorge
Wining the hearts and minds of the people watching around the world should make it all worth while. The future is much brighter for you all.
the only fix is that tricks are only 10% of the score at most.
but chutes have never scored well. you took out the big air up top. other than switching places with Kyle, they placed yoy fairly well unfortunately.
It ended up as a comp with frame wippers v downhill , should not be to gether. Separating would be best
My thought is that if the Judges can not and do not ride the lines then there is NO reason they should be judging... just imo
Seems judging needs to be done by certain criteria. For example.
Difficulty of course attempted. 50%
Tricks completed. 20%
Number of tricks. 20%
Number of riders using the same line.10%
Then the riders and builders know where they stand.
I think Brendan should have won last year, probably 2nd or 3rd this year.
I would love to hear your top 5!
full episode for that
@@TheRideCompanion Absolutely agree and I think BS run was calculated to win. A win for Godziek would have been awesome!
Tom vanstevburgan was the winning run in my eyes
i assume the fact bren missed tricks and didnt do a 2nd run played a part in his score
Check out fu manchu Saturn III Brendog spirit of ride was like that freeride not slopestyle
Just a thought, "Monsters of free ride".Sponsered by Monster , hosted by yours truly.😮
Have monster start an event
Yeah forget that bike park in Utah
What got me is the constant comments that I've read/heard, you made it look too easy, if you were out of control it would have looked radder and more sketchy, but you just were in total control, so 😕 My question now is, Fool me once, Shame on you: Fool me Twice, Shame on me: Fool me three times.....
It's 2 diffrent game!
Time to create a new comp minus redbull just a thought 😎
Monster should do there own rampage but call it Monster Mountain ⛰️
The scoring is a a joke, should be specific cateogies for scoring, including build, gnarliness, tricks etc
#BRENDOGWASROBBED
The thing is semenuk literally ceushed it godziek def had the best rampage run or tyler ...brendon u should been top 5 u went alil to slow into sum stuff but i understandthat stuff u did is inssne and most people have no idea what standing at the 100ft cliff ready to toll in and be the only person. To do it ..they gotta chsnge the judge criteria rampage has changed so much ..i feel for ya man i saw u cross finish and u looked super sad after ur score ...i fel ur pain ddfinelt should beeen in the 86 87
Feeling sorry for yourselves??
They judge based on the judging criteria, crucially, rather than whether they personally are stoked on a run.
Based on that, consistantly high speed, riskier tricks and hitting bigger drops and jumps will always score higher.
They could change the way that works so tech chutes, originality and 'natural' features score over groomed landings etc but until then this will always happen.
Huge respect to Bren and the boys for giving it your all, you did what you went to do and nailed it.
Free ride não deveria ser competição.
It’s cuz your didn’t drink the kool-Aid(Redbull) in the finish corral so they docked you points. Plus got LUNN drop done!!
