The G4-20 is such a great pack. I’ve been using one for 2 year. I’ve had no problems with the pack. I find 26 pounds is my limit and anything under 23 is very comfortable.
😍 Love my Mariposa for winter trips.. no hip belt and removed the aluminum strays.. also swapped the back pad out for GG 1/8 thinlight pad ( its bigger and weighs less) I use the G4-20 for 3 season.. but i cut off the hip belt and also swapped the back pad out for the GG 1/8 thinlight pad. I have a Kumo and Murmur hyperlight also for summer time trips.. but i am really liking the G4-20 and will probably be using it more now. Anyway, good review of both packs, enjoying your posts.. thanks..
That is a good system, having a pack for colder weather and longer resupplies (more food and clothes), and a summer pack for shorter hikes! I have made do with a 60L pack for years, but would like to get a smaller one. Thanks for the great review!
Great video. I bought a mariposa recently and one of your early videos of it definitely was a selling point. One point to make is you can mix and match which size hip belt you want with which size pack. I ordered a large pack with a medium hip belt.
Great review I have the new G4 20 and absolutely love it and have been using it for the past 5 months!!!! Plan on using it on my 2022 AT adventures 😊😊😊thx again!!!
I tried the Mariposa, it seemed like a quality product. The only problem was the hip belt cinched from the buckle by pulling outward vs cinching from the attachment point on the hip belt padding pulling inward.
Great review, Julia I’m a fan of GG too. I have older G5 and new Murmur..both are lighter than a pound. God bless you and happy trails, Sandalwood..AT annual hiker of my favourite sections
Early to one of your videos! Love love love all of your content. You are so relatable and inspiring. I have been obsessed since I decided to hike the AT! Keep being amazing ❤️ And thank you for all your helpful videos!
My first trip with the G4-20, I felt like I had to really tighten hip belt alot, so it stayed put, and wished it had a pad for around the front buckle area. No pack has it, just something that would be nice. I also found it wider than my waist, so slid down on me. All in all a beautiful pack. The top strap needs better reinforcement though, mine started to come unsewn after a 3 day. Love my pack though, its more functional light and more comfy than most I have tried on. Its my first ultralight pack so I cant compare it with others.
Well done as always Julia. Your product reviews are always so professional and to the point. Very valuable to any type of hiker. I know for myself, I truly valued your Pre and Post AT product reviews as well as what you planned to bring vs what your brought. I really seek quality all round and reliable, light and durable footwear along with being dry and comfortable for sleeping are the most important. All the best!
Great reviews! I note you got size small. I just bought a medium size GG pack and find it very long for my torso size which is 17 and a medium SHOUD fit me. But it doesn't ! . Any tips Julia? Love you videos!
Just got my g4-20 for the AT 2021 !!! My kit is pretty much dialed in . Base weight is about 12 pounds . So food and water I should be pretty good . Happy hiking !!! 👍🏼😎😎😎
I now feel like I should have gotten Gorilla 50 :))) I got a Mariposa last year and its just too big, although the only thing is that when not fully loaded, you cant adjust the size with straps, so its saggy and less comfortable
Hi Julia. Thanks for the great review of the packs. I’ve shied away from Dyneema packs because the material, while really light, can be fragile. If you don’t have dry bags does GG provide a rain cover?
Great review! I have and love my Mariposa. I hike in shoulder seasons above 10k so I like to be able to carry a little more gear for safety but mid summer I’m super light. Not worth the 6oz savings to downsize but that is for my needs. Everyone is different. When inclement weather hits I do see some ultra lighters get pretty uncomfortable so be careful out there peeps!
NoBison Well now Julia’s giving it the thumbs up to so you know it’s good! It’s not a pretty pack but it just carries so well and I forget I have it on. Plus it’s so lite I frequently use it as a day pack from a base camp. I’ve shredded mine and it has lots of scars and duct tape but it’s still my go to.
Packs are an interesting topic... good review of the two. There are a few companies that only sell on-line vs brick and mortar stores. What are your thoughts on fitting a pack correctly without a professional sales staff assisting... (granted some staff are suspect..lol) Could you make a video of getting proper measurements, and does basic differences in men and woman make one companies packs liked better by either sex?
GG has a great tool on their website for choosing the correct size. My brother (5’ 10”) was able to use my small for a weekend trip and said his felt comfortable. But we later bought him a medium. I think the sizing is based on torso length/ height. Which made it super easy to find his size.
THANK YOU for this review!!! I have been researching for awhile now and decided on the Posa. Now you have me intrigued! I was scared of the frameless. Whatever I land on, It’ll be my very 1st pack, ever! Still trying to dial in my gear ( I haven’t purchased anything, yet). I really want to 3 crown and I want to start with the CDT. Call me crazy... Can you suggest one of these 2 packs over the other for a 1st time thru hiker on the CDT? Also, thanks for supporting Atx business, love it! I drove by the other day, but they’re not allowing visitors right now :( Again, thank you!
I would recommend the Mariposa if your base weight is over 20lbs. But mine is around 12-13 now so I would recommend the g4-20. Also the CDT is a wild and technically and strategically challenging trail, and would recommend saving that for a second or third thru hike. But I’m sure it can be done!
Great pack review Rocket....both packs looked plenty capable...think I liked the Mari-posa best...lookin forward to your next adventure !! Gotta tell you....In the pics at the beginning of this vlog....yu had a purple sweater and gray headband on....I think you were at Bryce Canyon....you looked absolutely amazing....could've been modeling...you looked tuff...confident...fit....and "oh yea, beautiful" !!! Stay safe and happy !!!
How about back ventilation? I'm searching for a backpack to substitute my Thule capstone with a mesh back panel (it's comfortable to feel some breeze at your back)
Hi Julia. It would be good if you stated at the beginning of the video whether you bought these yourself, or whether they were given to you, or you got a discount or other compensation. If you were given them or compensated some way, disclosure at the beginning of the video is required by FTC disclosure rules. From comments in the middle of the video, it seems like you paid for them yourself, but I still suggest stating up front that you paid for them to make it clear that it's not a shill review like so many reviews are these days.

I loved your documentary in the AT, thank you for sharing your experience. 🌳🌲🌱
My pack is supercharged with 675 ft lbs of rear torque. Can never be too prepared
I love my mariposa 60. I saw your gear video after you finished the AT and you're part of the reason I got it, so thank you!
😍

Hey Rocket, good to see you again, looking good, I have lots of your A.T. videos saved and watch many times. Take care and enjoy the outdoors, Dave.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been thinking of getting one for cold weather hiking. I like my Osprey for warm weather.
Even I'm thinking of going down to a 42L pack over my 65L
I’ve been wanting a GG pack! Thanks for making this video
Checkout the Gossamer Gear Silverback 55. Nice pack.
Julia's videos are awesome! One of my favorite channels on the UA-cam!
I have the g4 - 20 and I love it. It has ample space for me,
It's a mint pack.

As a Osprey fan, you now have me intrigued about GG. Great review Julia :)
Check them out! They are great!!
As always, great video!!!

awesome Rocket .... gear is everything....thanks
Hi Julia. Thanks for the great review of the packs. I’ve shied away from Dyneema packs because the material, while really light, can be fragile. If you don’t have dry bags does GG provide a rain cover?
I do not believe they come with a rain shield.

I once passed a guy whose ultralight “tent” was an umbrella and a rain skirt for his legs. Hahaha man that looked miserable
I love that you know what you need in a pack!
Julia Sheehan I’d like to have both packs but for me the Mariposa works. YMMV. I’m loving your channel. Happy trails.
@@ApeMan Your review of the Mariposa helped me to pull the trigger on one. Great choice. Have used it for 2 years and is very versatile.

Super clear and informative video, thanks!
Did you have any problems cinching the waist belt tight enough? Great video thanks for sharing.

Regarding the long side pocket, can you reccomend which tents will fit.
I like the G4-20, but I must have load lifters!
I have both and love both.... Thanks 🎅🏻🥏🏔🏴☠️
Amazing video!! I loved it!!!
Nice, Neemor inspired me to get gossamer gear. I got the g4-20 without even watching a review 😂🙄hope I like it!
How about back ventilation? I'm searching for a backpack to substitute my Thule capstone with a mesh back panel (it's comfortable to feel some breeze at your back)
Would you please be so kind to tell me what height and size your are to fit the G4? Thank you so much.
What 40 mile part of the AT would you recommend for a section hike! I would want lots of small towns. Thank you
Maybe include Damascus Virginia.
Good review. Thanks!
Terrific review. You are now an actress.
You should've included the Gorilla, that's a badass pack.
Scott please do a video if you have that pack. Would love to see it.
I love GG.
I like the one you used better...because of the frame and you liked it .....)))
Very helpful
Great review, always enjoyed all your videos. You are absolutely beautiful 🎈💐🌹
Do any of the rest of you guys have an unrelenting crush on Julia, or is it just me?
🥰🥰
I do, she's passionate. I appreciate my boyfriend's hobbies but I wish he enjoyed being outside more lol.
Rocket check out Garth's Boulder Gardens on youtube. You might really appreciate it.
60L seems like a lot, I hope I can get away with a smaller pack...

So sweet like angel😍
Take care of those poor knees!
4/20 LOL
I swear you get hotter every video.
