Thank you!! This has been a dream partnership for sure. So happy to officially be working with Gossamer Gear and happy to help test out new gear from them as well. It's been such a fun experience.
It's so easy to pimp for GG packs. I had the (still have) the Mariposa and loved every feature - the long pocket and the sit pad are golden. Always priced right. I went down to the frameless G4-20 because my gear got so much better. I'm now on the lookout for a new pack....as my two season old G4-20 was lost two weeks ago in the high sierra. Had a medicine problem (a crime by the government actually) with my very needed adhd meds. My head was not clear at all, I set it down for lunch walked less than 50 feet away to get a location view (off trail) and with zero working memory turned around and could not find my way back to it. IMPOSSIBLE! I verbalized several times how screwed I was at 13000 ft alone off trail and no gear. I climbed this section up and down till I could do it no more. Froze for 18 hours each night (sun wouldn't reach me till after noon) until giving up and saving my own ass thanks to the angel I was hoping for right at the ranger cabin I was going to break into on the JMT. The folks out there are unbelievably awesome. It changed me permanently the love and care I was shown by strangers. But now I'm here...I would have put that gear up against any gear assembled. It was perfect and now its gone. 3000.00 worth, wallet, keys, passport, EE 10 degree quilt, used once Xlite pad. 13 years compiling it. I'm retired and won't be able to replace it all. As if I could do it, the first place I can't get away from is Gossamer Gear packs. Nothing really compares. With the miles you put in, I'm sure you can relate. Thanks for all the great content!
Very helpful. I was going to get the osprey atmos 65 but because of this video I’m ordering the Mariposo 60. I’m retiring later this year and starting the AT next winter. Thanks!
I’m so glad you made this video! I’ve been planning on upgrading my pack, and the Mariposa has been at the top of my list (thanks to you 😊)! I was just checking out the new colors on their website, and was wondering what else they had changed. I think I might also get the Loris daypack, now that they’ve got it in yellow!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found this video helpful with your upcoming product purchases. I love both the Mariposa 60 AND the Loris 25. The Loris 25 has been the day pack I've been using for all of my day hikes and winter hikes so far this year.
I swooned over the yellow Loris too! I wish the Mariposa came in yellow, though I was able to get a shoulder strap pocket in yellow to complement the tropical mist pack I got. I know grey and black and stuff are "sensible" for hiking, but I am a sucker for a great color!
I LOVE my mariposa 60. I'm excited to try the new features... but who's kidding? I bought it for the color. I mean.... TEAL! Thank you for introducing me to an awesome pack.
I totally get that!! This is the exact reason why I have multiples of this pack. I had to have it in purple when they came out with the limited edition Vaporwave last year. 😂

I have not used it yet, so I made arrangements to trade it out for the new version you reviewed here! And, the bonus, a favorite color! thanks for all your inspiration! Excited to use my new pack in a couple of weeks - if it arrives in time!
Yay! Glad you found this video helpful and even bigger yay that you were able to trade out the previous pack for the new version in your favorite color. Major score!! Oh the places you and your new Mariposa 60 pack will go!
I bought this pack last fall based on all of the things you said about it and seeing you use it in your videos. My sister got one too. We have both LOVED it!
I too am a Gossamer Gear fan and just bought the purple and black limited edition Mariposa 60! I upgraded from the Gossamer Gorilla 50...excited for the increased space.
Love my Mariposa 60 and have hundreds of comfortable happy miles with it. The Airflow sitLight Camp Seat they sell on their site fits in the Mariposa 60 from three years ago? Their website said it is for the new packs, but not sure if all Mariposas are considered new. I am not sure from this video if you used it in your older packs or only the new one.
Great question! There are now TWO different Air Flow SitLight Camp Seats to chose from on the Gossamer Gear website: Air Flow SitLight Camp Seat (Previous Model) bit.ly/3xc4KvX Air Flow SitLight Camp Seat (to use with new Signature PVT packs) bit.ly/3PFbE34 As you can see, there's a slight shape difference between each of these camp seats so you'll want to make sure you get the right one for the pack you have. If you have the older version of the Mariposa 60, you'll want to choose the previous model camp seat, noted above. Hope this helps!
If the small fits you at 5’7, how well would it fit me at 5’3? I was looking at purchasing this pack as i am desperate to lighten all my gear for more solo backpack trips. I am loving your videos and have been binge watching them all!! You are skilled and also very entertaining. Thank you!!
It's hard to tell what size will fit you exactly just based on how tall you are. I recommend checking out the Backpacking Sizing link on the Mariposa 60 page bit.ly/3VRyubN for more details on sizing and fit, both for the pack and hip belts. Hope this helps!
Congratulations on the new partnership! I currently hiking with the old Mariposa. I don't use a hydration bladder, but used that inner pocket for my sleeping pad. By folding my sleeping pad to fit in that pocket, it provided more padding between my bear canister and my back as well as providing more vertical support. The large size of the bladder pocket is something I used to compliment GG on having since some bladder pocket are tall and thin. So I am very disappointed to hear @gossamergear removed that pocket. Honestly, that is a huge non-selling point that outweighs some of the upgrades. @TheHungryHiker can you speak about the width of the new shoulder straps vs the old shoulder straps? I always get a little shoulder pain because of how wide set the old version straps are (I have heard grown men say the same thing). Are the newly designed straps closer? Does the S-curve help? Also, can you talk about the difference between the straight and the curved hip belts?
Thanks and sorry to hear that the removal of the internal hydration pocket disappointed you with the new Mariposa 60. I asked Gossamer Gear why they decided to remove this pocket from the new version and they said based on feedback they’ve received over the years from users, this is the one pocket users used the least so they removed it to save weight in the new version. If you’re looking for a place to store a sleeping pad in the new Mariposa 60 (and even in the previous version Mariposa) and still want that extra support between a hard-sided bear canister and your back, you can always try removing the SitPad from the back of the pack and the store the sleeping pad in there. I know a few people who have tried this option on their Mariposa packs and really like it. As for the S-Curve Harness, yes there’s a noticeable shape difference when compared to the previous version and it feels a lot different when I wear it too.. With the new S-Curve Harness, I’ve noticed a much more comfortable, balanced and contoured fit in the neck and upper chest area. Thanks to both the S-Curve Harness AND the new and improved load lifters, these two huge updates have already made carrying a heavier load of gear in this pack much more comfortable than the previous Mariposa. Same idea with the new Signature PVT Frame + Belt. This whole system is designed to move with your body and natural gait, overall improving the comfort level of this new pack, especially when it's fully loaded with gear, food and water. The difference between the Straight Hipbelt and the Curved Hipbelt is how the belts are shaped. Since we aren't all just one-size-fits-all or fit into the standard small , medium or large sizes, the shape of these new belts now opens up more comfortable and customizable fit options for a variety of body sizes and types.
@@TheHungryHiker thank you so much for taking the time to type such a detailed response! I never thought about putting the sleeping pad behind the sit pad. I might try that on my current pack and see how it works, that might be a great solution. Thank you! I understand that inner pocket not being used as much since I see less and less people using bladders these days. I would not want to give up my sit pad (that thing is great) so maybe if I fold my pad a certain way, I can fit both there. Thank you for explaining the new straps. That is fantastic news! Well, maybe not for my wallet, hehe.
