Remember:
Both of these sets are great and fully deserves to be a Technic set.
Al thought they both are excavators of some sort, they turned out to be a lot different in some aspects.

with the grabber test the grabber on the tracted excavotor is more for lifting things like big bits of lego

Unfair, if your going to do a gravel test, put a better clamp on the tracked excavator
On my volvo the power functions seem slow. Even on fresh batteries the main arm or boom takes forever to lift itself. Is mine defective? I feel like there isn't enough air being pushed through the small pump.

IMO, the 42006 is built more for softer surfaces like carpet and designed to pick up rocks/boulders while 42053 is built for smoother terrain and finer material (i.e. dirt/Lego studs)

It’s like comparing a race car to a scooter. Each vehicle is unique and has its own advantages. The tracked excavator was released a few years before this and the builds are different in durability and what it does.
What see from this experiment is that you need the tracks with volvo body with the tracked ones arm with volvos bucket but can change out for claw and volvo cabin and volvos clearance and volvos trailer hitch
All the tests were made for de volvo thats not fair

I know some of you may feel like the test is biased but there are definitely some useful results. Look at the speed alone: 42053 lifts much faster than 42006 and while the latter may be more precise, the first one is much more powerful.

I chuckled the entire video, those tracks can be best if completed with sum rubber pins + some modification not yet made by lego, best than the little wheels.Whe all know that pneumatic system is far more powerfull than power function actuators like in the reality.
Not fair there is a blade on Volvo to counter balance according to weight in bucket and what degree angle and slew return🚀
If you mean the test where I was putting tyres on the arm, you can see at 1:58 that the blade was giving up long before the entire excavator fell. And that blade snapped at 192 g of weight, and what I could see, it help up for more weight than that. Meaning the blade didn't do any difference in the result :)

the grab test was more favoured for the volvo as the style of grab is more suited for that style of material whereas the 42006 four finger grab is for large objects.

perhaps the 42006 was a first draft and the 42053 a few more drafts later. I think they will come out with a licensed bucket wheel excavator as well, or atleast I hope so
kinetic static 42006 came out in 2012 and that volvo came out in late 2015
One works on pneumatics which can build up pressure to meat the load. The other is battery power/linear actuator which has a certain load cap
+Cody Baker The pneumatic system has a fairly low load bearing limit as well, due to leaking seals (as the hoses are just pressure fitted), and due to the fact that Lego pneumatic cylinders are a heck of a lot weaker than the mechanical linear actuators. What 42006 is losing on is the white clutch gear, which prevents the linear actuator from receiving full torque form the motor. Hope you understand🙂

Hey, Dgustafsson. After seeing your review, I saw the comments. A lot of people said it wasn't fair to lift gravel with the 42006, because it is used to grab bigger things, e.g. logs. I agree with them, and I believe you shouldn't have actually done that. I do own both sets, but I prefer the 42006. It reminds me of the Space Shuttle set, I mean full of gaping holes. It also uses linear actuators, so if you lose one (I don't know how you can do that), you can use some from your other sets. But in the 42053, if you lose e.g. the pump, a brand new piece (again, I don't know how you can do that), you will have to get it from Bricklink. About Mr. Drunk Skeleton, famous for driving your 3rd Generation FMX, needs a comfortable seat. It is true that 42006's seat is uncomfortable, but it doesn't really matter. The worst thing about both is that you have to rotate the superstructure with your hand, with no gear wheel. I mean, come on, even the 9391 set back from 2012 has a gear wheel for superstructure rotation! I understand your point, but I think you didn't take everything into consideration.
You are a really good UA-camr, hope you reach 100.000 some day. And, please compare 8421 with 42009! I would really appreciate that.

You can improve the Volvo's specs by moving the blue visible pin of the locking mechanism of the front blade one hole up.

Unfair testing, one had grapple the other has clam shell bucket two different attachments made for different applications.
very nice comparison :) but the grabber chalenge is quite unfair , the grabber in the volvo has the abitity to grab more stuff and it will not fall aside .
Thanks! yea I know the grabbers are supposed to grab different materials, but I had to include som "unfair" challenges as well, otherwise it would have been like three challenges.
Actually, it is fair. Grabber buckets and that other kind of grabber are both similar, and thus, it is fair.

Why not to make 42008 vs 42042?
Saktuscactus 42008 is a tow truck, and 42042 is a crane, can't see the similarities? Maybe you mean 42009, which is the mobile crane? If so, that's a great idea, adding it to my ideas list👍:)

42006 would have easily lifted if the clutch was removed
Tracks are much better than wheels if u do a race not on a smooth surface the tracks will lose unless u put studs in the tracks to create the same grip to the wheels. U need to motorise the excovators and then see which one has the better drive

The grabber test is not fair toward the one with the linear actuators... It doesnt have the capacity for a load. I think that you should do what size can fit in the bucket instead...
42006 may have lost against the Volvo but it's half the price, so it's not that bad actually. also the 42006 grabber is more suited for larger things, while the EW160 will fail to grab anything larger than a bean

Yep but I chosed to not, cuz 8043 doesn't have a grabber attachment.
It does, there are instructions for making a grabber attachment I believe.

To everyone saying it's unfair: He showed the entire process, with captions, and then gave his judgement of the winner for each round. Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages to each, but he showed you all the footage, so you can form your own opinions!

Actually, it is fair. Grabber buckets and that other kind of grabber are both similar, and thus, it is fair.
LeTesla Zebolt cmon though. That claw on 42006 is for bigger, bulkier things. Those claws in real life, are used in landfills, and scrap yards to pick up trashed cars. That bucket on the volvo, is used in other situations like building sites and maybe on barges floating on the ocean so they can pick up trash. And the bucket on the volvo has no gaps, further pointing to its best usable position, for smaller, granier objects. And the claw on the other hand, is not meant to pick up the tiny objects, because doing that is like trying to fit a hot dog in a hallway. Of course, its gonna fit through it, like the pebbles fit through the gaps of the claw on 42006. You wouldn't use it to pick up rocks. Like, who would? I know i wouldnt. You could say they are similar, but it doesnt help the fact that the claw isnt meant for pebbles, and they still tried to make it lift pebbles, when it will fail undoubtedly.
Demonic Darkness Have you even seen the bucket of the Volvo? It has a bit of a gap due to it, I picked up some small pieces with it, and some of the pieces literally fell out.
The bucket in the Volvo set does have a gap in it though.
Each one has a different purpose they are better in their own fields
He just liked the Volvo and all the tests were what the Volvo was designed for
