I call this the gut punch of the album, Depressing, but it wake's you up at the same time. Akerfeldt is a highly underrated guitarist as well. You can hear he listens to everything. Especially the blues. So well executed and performed. And that voice..wow.
Mikael's record collection and influences are extensive; from Coltrane, to Abba, Dream Theater, and so many more. From interviews I've watched here on youtube I wouldn't be surprised if his collection isn't in the thousands. He has named bands many times in interviews and concert video of bands he 'stole' from or is influenced by. He's quite the character, bantering with the audience. I did find a web site ( rate your music ) that was keeping a tally of the collection, but I don't think it's kept up to date anymore. 4500 albums (vinyl) was the count at the time. There's no date on the page, so that total is most likely not accurate. I hope you're feeling better. 🤗
Thank you, it makes sense that as a musician you will always get some ideas from other musicians. It’s very rare to be “original” in these days. You go back to the 14th century with French “ars nova” and see how their music was just almost very similar and but different at the same time. I am feeling much better thank you!
