I appreciate this so much. What an incredible way to zoom out and look at everything in such a realistic way.

Such an enlightening talk! She mentioned all kinds of fears that a person could have about the future of technology and it was amazing.

Very powerful. Being mindful about the impact is a great place to start. Unfortunately, we are more focused on the commerciality aspects and making profit!

Tara - I am excited to meet you in November at the Neuroscience and Leadership course at MIT. Your work factors centrally to the science embedded in the AI human behavior learning and insight network and platform I'm pioneering with co-founders Jay van Zyl, Laura Hansen, and Jeannie Kim-Han.

04:01 Humanity: as a species - the total world population; as a condition - the totality of experience of existing as a human being; & as a virtue - a set of strengths focused on caring for others...and human-plus: using tech to improve ourselves #TaraSwart #TheUnlimitedMind

Will we still be ourselves after ? - Simply put, no.
Even if you sit in your closet with your eyes closed, the essence of what is "you" is constantly changing.
How? Well, now you've had the experience of sitting in your closet today. It may not be much input, but it is still added to the collective experiences that forms your conscious being.
Ok, but what if you're in a coma for you certainly don't "experience" anything. Right but then you wake up, and while your mind may not have progressed your body did.
Other than going with Sci-Fi scenarios that don't currently exist in our lives, like being frozen in Carbonite or being put into Suspended Animation, there is nothing you can do to keep change from happening. Change is part of life. Change is part of your humanity. How did you treat the opposite sex when you were a kid (Eww have cooties, Yuck!) and now ... well not so yucky. Your opinions change, your knowledge changes. You get a bit of new information, or maybe have a chemical trigger go off in your brain and the essence of what is YOU changes, ever so slightly.
The Core of what makes you "you" is not a static element or fixed point. Therefore to wonder if emerging technology is going to change "what it is to be You" on a fundamental level is pointless.

The book about Evolution by EW Mayr, is a comprehensive explanation of the pooling of genetic diversity in populations that adapt as a whole by carrying many combinations of genes at any one time, like a library reference system that various situations "select" for what may be only a slowly cumulative advantage. Ie individuals rarely carry the cost or benefit to the population on their own.
Brains are totally integrated biology, and their purpose is to extend situations by experience and synthesize alternative possible choices. Technology is the hardware of techniques and is another part of the brain's repetoir. It's equally good or bad at devising scenarios that adapt or fail.

Bill Gates?! There are many manual labor jobs that can be done by people with a high school diploma or less. We are in dire need of workers who can work with their hands.
