I had plans to buy the 8-1/2 40v mid November of 21. All I could find was preorder with a late Feb ship date. I didn't want Tool Nut sitting on my money for 1/3 of a year, so I went another direction and bought a cheaper but not as refined compact saw. It was making me money during the preorder period. Of course this year there were some good deals on it.
Good review brother. This is the saw I decided on and will be my next tool. Based on all my research this saw is outstanding, and beautiful also in my opinion. Thanks
I have this saw. LOVE IT!!! i It absolutely can be your primary saw unless you are hung up on having a 12” blade. I do have 2 complaints. Dust collection is barely enough to say it works. It does but not very good. My biggest complaint. There are no positive stops or detents when beveling. Other than these 2 things the saw is amazing. Best cordless saw I’ve owned.
I'm about to buy either this or the 10"/260mm. I really want this one but keep getting hung up on not being able to cut 3.5"/90mm posts which I will need to do occasionally (But not often from what I can see). I'm an amateur woodworker and want something flexible, do you think I could get away with this or should I just get the 10"?
Interestingly I can't find any videos about the 10" version of Makita's 40V miter saw line up, which is the one I got. I came off using a Ridgid 7 1/4" cordless miter saw and LOVED how compact it was so I really appreciate this 8.5" Makita saw, too bad the blades are so expensive.
I was going to buy this 8 1/2" but went with the 12" 40v. I believe the 12" is just better bc of the higher capacity it can cut compared to the 8 1/2 or 10. I also have that 6 1/2" 18v and still use it for small trim.
You can wire the button on top of the saw to activate the button press inside of a festool Bluetooth remote. You’d need to do a little soldering and mount the button somewhere on the saw but it would definitely be possible
Looks awesome. I'll be rebuilding out deck. Lots of 2x4 work. Then some interior trim molding. Going 40v because I just bought there new half inch impact and 2 40v 4.0ah batteries. I'm just not sure what size I should get. Probably be the only 1 I buy for the rest of my life.
You can get a foot pedal for 15 dollars and plug your vac into it. Step on to power on vac right before you cut. It’s the most simple, cost effective fix. Not as easy as the vac button on the saw tho.
Thanks for your awesome video! Question for you. I’m looking at getting cordless mitre saw, track saw and vacuum. I’m debating between the makita 40v or the new festool cordless option. Is the extra price on festool worth it for a better Bluetooth setup? Thanks
I have this one, the two battery 36 volt 7-1/4, and a corded makita 12 inch. Never use the 12. If you take that hose off the back a festool 27 mm hose fits into the inlet, but you lose the lower dust intake. This one is nice because it does get small in your van/truck for what it is. The dual bevel is why I bought this one, the 12 has it but the 7-1/4 does not.
Right now I own a Kapex 120 but I want to go smaller. So it's basically the KS60 battery powered or the Makita. What do you think? Precision is my number one priority since I'm building furniture. Also I'm worried about the low rpm of the KS60, which might compromise clean cuts especially for melamine board.
Any thoughts on the KSC 60 now thats its out? Still stay with the makita 40v or are you going festool? From what I can tell the festool is around 10lbs lighter. The makita might have more blade options. Festool might have battery power issues in the long term. I dont care about price. Just quality.
does this have the double shadow line like the 10" and 12"? I have the single bevel 7 1/2".. while its a amazing saw not having the dual bevel is a pain in the ass when doing long trim boards. I am def looking at this model now. also this tool curve.. is this your company? do you make these parts you sell on the site yourself?
Good video thanks. How is the accuracy? Cuts straight on the slide? Cuts square when bevelled over? Mitre detents are tight? And does it have positive stops at common angles on the bevel. Same questions for both.
If Makita would have had their 40V batteries backwards compatible like Metabo HPT/Hitachi did with their 18V/36V batteries I would have considered 40V Makita-but since Metabo HPT also has the AC adapter and lifetime warranty I have switch much of my Makita and Milwaukee tools over to Metabo HPT where it makes since All the 36V MHPT tolls have been out for over 4+ yrs they came out with the pro level 7 1/4 and 10" sliding compound mitres long ago and have been making me money for all that time Also they have the largest and most capable jobsite table saw, only full size 1/2 cordless plunge router, grinder, SDS Max rotary hammer , vacuum that we do use the AC adapter for and save battery life and longevity The 36V recip saw, triple hammer, rebar bender rear handle and sidewinder all are great performers I will still buy red and teal but only where they offer a better tool at similar price and warrantee
i owned a corded 10" friend has the 10 battery slide metabo and it has alot of deflection in the blade; an enormous amount not acceptable for any finish work, it had to go. But i do agree that makita should reverse engineer like metabo hpt
We have two 10" Multivolts for our contracting business, a 12" slider in the shop along with the 6. 1/2 mutivots.sliding belt driven finish mitre that is the absolute bomb The 10"s have been put through wars and continue to kick string One had to be re adjusted one time over 4 yrs Best bang for buck The other Makita 10" we have is also a solid saw but batteries are garbage 2x36V when the Metabo HPT needs only one for 36V power And we can use our AC adapter and go all week without having to use batteries when we have power available No other brand offers this Great for table saw, SDS max and plus rotary hammers, portable band saw, grinders and others needing long run times Plus it saves battery longevity as well
If you drop the blade to a board and roll it forward for alignment, or turn the blode freehand, does your motor make a clicking sound? Trying to figure out if mine has an issue
I'm considering switching from the 10" LXT to the 8-1/2" XGT mitre saw, though I'd prefer a larger saw in this style. It'll do most things, but what does it max out on for vertical baseboard or crown moulding? I have an LXT x2 vacuum and it doesn't plug into my LXT mitre saw, LXT drywall sander, XGT circular saw, XGT track saw, etc. I bought the corded, self-cleaning Makita and that plugs into everything I own.
Would you say this is the best miter saw overall? Or just the best battery powered miter saw? Was looking at the Kapex for my shop, but wondering if I should start looking at Makita's miter saws instead (for stationary use).
Look up the Festool Kapex, it has a problem with motors burning out, and Festool wants $600 plus shipping to fix it. AVE took apart a Festool table saw and they use bushings instead of bearings, and the cheapest low temp melt, fragile plastic for the motor housing. For the price that’s unacceptable. Festool does make the best dust extractor and sanders, the RO 150 can’t be beat.
@@jfgreen1959 Look it up where? Post links.. Likewise here. I bought this XGT miter saw as soon as it was available. I absolutely love it.

Awesome saw biggest issue I have with it is the lack of afermarket blades in 8.5 inch.
Look at Ridge Carbide blades.

Interesting in the smaller miter saw ,still available?
Good video thanks. How is the accuracy? Cuts straight on the slide? Cuts square when bevelled over? Mitre detents are tight? And does it have positive stops at common angles on the bevel. Same questions for both.
Best in the business. It’s extremely extremely smooth.
Can the 6 1/2 cut 2x4’s well? I really like that small japanese one you have.
How do you operate the right bevel? I see it advertised as dual bevel but couldn’t figure out how to right bevel a display model
Can you use any standard can you use any standard size blade or do you have to use Makita only
Is there any way to order a larger fence for the 6 1/2 miter saw?
Had many 7-1/2” over years only problem is table wearing out after 5-10 k cuts
Whats the weight difference between the 2?

It has a 3 3/4” vertical cut capacity. Cutting crown laying down is it’s only weakness.
Cutting crown flat is a lot more accurate and your not limited to the size of your saw
If you’re not cutting crown laying flat, you’re doing it wrong. 😉

Just get the Festool and you're set for anything life throws at you. The onboard clamp is worth it alone

The makitas weigh a ton. Battery powered and hardwired. Dust collection sucks ass as well
How much will you sell the small one for?
What's the largest piece of baseboard you can cut with this? It'd suck if I bought this and I can't cut 3 1/2" base
I don’t think you can cut it standing. I think 3 1/4 is max. Cut it laying down
U still have that 18v for sale?

About 37 lbs., depending on the battery.
How heavy is the 61/2
24lbs
