    Thanks for tuning in, hopefully this appeals to my fellow bike geeks out there. Let me know if there's anything I missed or wasn't clear about. I'm also keen to hear your experiences if they are the same or defferent🤙

    Great info video dude. I love my older Carbon Instinct but I'm starting to think this is the next Rocky M for me. I think the new 2024 has quite a few suspension changes and looks the biz.

    Thanks for the review! I'm 6'2" and I agree that a steeper 78 deg seat tube angle is nice when pedaling uphill. Have you tried a Nukeproof Mega 290?

    Tons of great info here, and nice looking build! I'm currently debating between an altitude c50 and an Ibis Riomo V2s, and looking for a little help.
    I ride a mix of shuttle and pedal up trails in Canada here and wondering how the two compare. I know the Rocky probably descends better, but how do they compare when pedaling up hill?
    Cheers,

      I never tried the v2 but the Ripmo is much better going up. The Rocky is fairly active compared to DW/VPP bikes.

      Awesome, thanks for the reply! I think I'm going to suffer a little more on the uphill for the better downhill performance from the Rocky.

    Very similar/reasons for build/long CS/Wolf Tooth headset (which is a delightful bit of kit. Agreed about 1/3 of the price of a King and like for like quality). My build below (but had swapped the Hope's out for Hayes Dominion A4s, OneUp V3 dropper lever for less friction etc). I too have cut my OneUp 35mm rise bar to 770mm (from 780) as the Ergon GE1's add +5mm each side vs. majority of other grips.
    Things I would change are similar.
    1) Slightly steeper seat tube (though the effective STA is fine).
    2) Don't need 9 (as there are a few redundant ones). Really only Pos 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9 make most sense as 1 reduces the travel vs. 2 and 3 at slackest and is barely any more progressive than 2. 4 has less travel than 5 and 6 and is the same progression as 3. 7 and 8 are both similarly progressive as 6 and pos 9 fills that need for those who want to ride a higher spring rate and less progression for more all-mountain/trail feel). I wished HTA could have come -0.5degree slacker out of the box.
    3) Don't mind it being moderately slack in Neutral as the Ride-9 doesn't impact the most important dimension which is the front center. Would like to see Rocky employ something like what Canyon has done on the Strive with a + or - 5mm in each and therefore front center). (The WT -1 angleset increases the FC by 13mm and incidentally reduces the CS from 448 to 444mm).
    4) Also agree wish there was a "Penalty Box" storage in this frame or alternatively at least a 1-bolt accessory mount like Canyon has on their Strive (right under the top of the top tube would have been perfect.

      I’d seen your bike check when I was looking at how people were running their bikes, very nice rig. Hayes we’re the other option I considered for brakes but I got the TRP cheap off a friend

    • @lenolenoleno
      @lenolenoleno Рік тому

      @@MTBMcPhee Had the TRQ Quadiems back in the day. Loved the brake but I run the levers close to the bar and the TRP's lever throw increase too much when winding in the reach (have medium sized hands). If I had biggest hands would have jumped on their new brakes for sure.
      The Hope Tech 4 V4s or Dominions seemed most similar to the TRPs but better suited to smaller mitts (and like you, got the Dominions on a deal so went with them!).

    • @MTBMcPhee

      It depends on the day. I love trying new things or testing different settings on the local dh track, but sometimes it’s nice just to go for a ride so I usually have a base setting I can use for those days.
      This year I’ve started to keep a spreadsheet with the different settings I’ve tried and notes on the feeling which I’ve found to be useful to refer back to.

    How do you like the Altitude compared to the Ripmo, specifically for park/dh/enduro riding?

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  Рік тому

      It's a lot more stable than the ripmo especially in the long CS setting so generally better for going fast and hitting hard, while still being light and pedalling quite well. Neither bike would be my first choice for park riding, but for 1-2 trips per year they'll get the job done.

    • @MTBMcPhee

      No it’s pressed in, but the chip at the rear can change the head angle by about 2 degrees if I ever wanted to steepen it up

    I find my Sight running a X2 just isn't as poppy as I would like and was used to on my previous bike. Do you think this is because it is a less progressive frame?

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  Рік тому

      I think you could tune the x2 to be poppy. Have you tried adding volume spacers, or adding more low speed compression to your shock?

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  Рік тому +1

      Hmm, not until now… I don’t think our race tracks would need the extra travel and slackness to be honest, but I have heard that the 38 is especially nice at 180mm. Might try it one day!

      @@MTBMcPhee Yeah that's what I've heard as well. I'm considering the altitude right now (and Strive). I'm not a fan of the head angle but thought over forking would rake it out a bit and raise the bb/stack. Plus the added travel might help save my arms on the longer stages. Just a thought right now though. It's a great looking bike, congrats!
