A quick rip on the south coast in preparation for an upcoming race. Trying to find the race pace and get used to pushing the big bike on longer climbs. Got a bit lucky for sure!

Mill Creek has a new trail with a grand opening on Sunday 11th of August. I visited the trail back in June to film some of the progress and then again to test it out before the final tweaks were made. It's only short but it's a lot of fun and it's very easy to lap!

Round 2 of the NSW State GE Series took us to the Hawkesbury region of NSW and some classic gravity trails at Del Rio. The WSMTB club put in a huge effort to breath new life into these trails that were some of the gnarliest and most fun trails I've ever raced! Is there a reason you prefer the Vivid over your coil for racing?
I prefer the vivid of the coil for everything! It just feels like it has the perfect level of damping in every situation, where the coil to me can feel a bit too active at times. It makes me wonder what the vivid coil would be like, but it's hard to justify spending money when the vivid air is already so good.
@@MTBMcPhee Thanks for that! I currently have an X2 on my Megatower and I've been coil curious.

The newer Specialized Turbo Levo SL is also a mullet but is 170/170. Sounds like the SL for you.

@@MTBMcPhee I ride a bit more tech than flow, but when I do ride flow the fox I have now feels heavy and reluctant to ‘pop’. Does this happen normally or should I just learn to tune my forks right😂
@@JamesM-T yeah, I think you should be able to get feeling you are looking for with a bit of tuning. I would speed up your rebound as a first step

Nice review but 26/28 sounds nuts for psi. Whats your riding weight+.bike weight?
@@Turbalt141 I’m 90kgs plus kit and the bike is 17. If I run lower than that in maxxis DH casing I need to run inserts. I do think I will be able drop 2-3 psi with the Michelin casing when I get another set to test.

How does the rear suspension feel? Would you say it’s plush over the rocks, and chunky stuff, but still jumps well?
Unsurprisingly it's somewhere between my Tallboy and Megatower. It's quite supportive, pumps and jumps well. Not overly plush, but I suspect a larger volume shock would help with that.

Have you tried a Kenevo SL? Might tick all the boxes you were talking about at the end of video, and can be set up mullet or full 29 I think. I have a full power Kenevo and a Canyon Spectral analog. Best of both worlds I think, but definitely keen to check out a light weight e-bike when the time comes.
I haven't had a chance to ride a Kenevo SL, but it sure looks like a good option, especially with the range extender

I think with ebikes being around for a while now, one of my 1st questions to people looking to buy one is, what do your mates ride? if they are all on full power, then go full power. But you also nailed it with the guy that wants to ride with faster guys on analog's but doesn't have the fitness to keep up with them. Nice review Craig, did you leave Mitch's settings on the suspension
Yeah that's a good point, you would definitely want full power if that's what all your mates have! I weigh more than Mitch so we pumped up the suspension, I definitely needed an extra token or two in the fork however.
Can you have it not mullet-ed .... & maybe I might keep my 170 forks I just got back 🤔
Mullet only for this one. I think I would prefer mullet on an ebike generally, this one was on the smaller side for me and had a short (35mm) stem.

How do you find climbing on the Optic on shire trails? I have a 2005 Norco sight c7.2 (27.5") at the moment and am thinking about buying a 2023 Optic as I've loved the sight but want something more up to date. I mainly ride at Grays point, mill creek, appin etc. Watching heaps of reviews, it's clear the Optic descends well, but how is it on rocky tech climbs? Thanks heaps.
@@gbowen444 perfect bike for the places you mentioned. The climbing geo is great and it has plenty of grip for the local tech climbs

@@gbowen444 thanks for the kind words. I’m currently trying the DJI Osmo Action 4, but most of my videos were shot on gopro 8, 11, and 12. I think you can get great footage from any recent camera if you’re willing to learn what all the settings do 👍

Dude, you’re fit and fearless! You had me on the edge of my seat for the entire time. Some seriously gnarly terrain with plenty of wet & off camber sections. Great result!
