Nowra's New Jump Trails are SICK! Superbowl Flow Trails!!
It's great to see more sanctioned jump lines being built, and Nowra on NSW's South Coast is the latest town to add flow and jump trails to attract the tourists. It's an easy 2 hour drive from the south of Sydney and the short trails and easy climb kept us entertained all morning.
Congrats to the SCUM club for the great addition to their network and thanks to the builders for the awesome work!

Dan had a bit of a riding hiatus so I thought I would show him around some of The Gong's finest trails many of which he's never ridden. It was well until a poorly chosen route turned the ride into survival mode. Enjoy! I've had the pleasure of riding professionally built bike park trails here and overseas, and I can confidently say that these trails are up there with the best anywhere - what's even more impressive is that they are hand built, and unsanctioned. Ourimbah has always been a great trail centre, but over the last few years it has seen a significant increase in investment and new work. I love the old proframe model! I wanted to get the Proframe RS, but after testing it out I had to buy from a different brand. My ears get caught on the side vents whenever I to remove the helmet and I end up getting redness on my ears. I tried swithing pads but still no go which was a real shame. The RS looks and felt dope, but the side vent issue I experienced was a dealbreaker for me.
Any reason why you didn’t go with Fox 38 with 170mm ? Great vid by the way!
@@paullagueux5108 the air shaft was much cheaper. I did eventually put a 38 on and I liked some aspects, but I never really got the same good feeling as the 36 air spring. I run a Zeb now.
Great video! How does the Heckler SL compare to your megatower in the rough stuff?
@@timhierlihy5745 quite similar, I think the extra weight makes up for the shorter travel. The main difference is the shock is more supportive and poppy than the vivid on the Mega.
Awesome! Thanks for replying. I have a megatower and love how robust it is. It feels like I will give out before it does :)
Ok so just out of curiosity I’m trying to make my video footage to look better. What camera are you using? And is this horizontal or vertically filmed on the chest? If you don’t want to give away this information, it’s fine. I just wondering.
@@FISHYY_MTB this clip is an osmo action 4 mounted vertically on a chest strap. I normally mount it horizontal under the visor for long form UA-cam
I’ve got the OA3. What stabilisation is this on, I use rocksteady plus for some reason this looks way better than mine. When I use rocksteady it looks really shaky.
@ this is rocksteady (not plus)
Jeez I wonder why mine is so shaky looking then. Especially when it’s in rocksteady. Thanks for the help! It must be the way I have min mounted (upside down, vertically)
Please sir, how tall are you? Thanks😅
@@peterk7662 183cm and all limbs!
What size is that dhx2? I’m thinking about putting one on my 2023 sight, in the 185x55 but not sure. How does it feel? Is it any worse or better?
@@FISHYY_MTB it’s 185x55 and I much preferred it over the X2
@@MTBMcPheeok thanks! I might get one into this coming year… also you just got a sub! You have a clean sight I have one too, do you like mine? It’s on one of my videos
hello! 3 years later I have a quiestion for my 2023 norco sight, how did you like the set up of coil shock with 160 mm fork? Thanks!
@@TheFullofnihil that was actually my preferred setup of all. It preserved the excellent stock geometry but greatly improved the rear end grip and control

Can you rent bikes there and what’s the name of the place, I’m going to visit Australia next month and wanna do some riding

How do you get to these trails
Im riding the Michellin 2.6 eWild front and 2.6 eWild rear. These things grip, roll, and can take a beating. They have over 1,000 miles on them and counting.
@@alexramirez118 wow!
Noice 👌
Great vid mate, absolutely crushed that black run! As far as the views go, im my opinion the helmet cam gives a smoother, easier to watch video for the 14 mins, especially with the body's added gimbal effect on the stabilisation, but i do think the chest mount would make for good short form vids as it shows a bit more height to the lip of the jump as you ride up to it 🤙
Looks fantastic…. I’ll be down there in the next couple weeks
trails look awesome
That looks like a lot of fun - helmet mounted (either visor/chin) is what I prefer as it is just that little bit more stable than chest, which makes it easier to watch.... but what would I know I cannot even remember what my gopro looks like 🙃
@@TheDangals ride your bike first and then worry about your gopro!
That Funnel Web track reminds me so much of Quantum at Narooma. Might have to do an overnighter down to Nowra, these tracks look sick.
@@paulholyoak worth a visit! I’ve yet to check out Narooma but hopefully I’ll get there soon
I generally prefer chest mount view, as I find the head mount is too elevated, making the view very disconnected from the trail. However I have to agree, on that trail it looks really flat on the chest view, whereas the head view gives a better feeling of trail undulations
I started with a chin mount, but most riders I ride with prefer a chest cam. I switched to the chest cam just to see the difference, but I didn't really like it. Because when I wanted to highlight a feature on the trail, the camera was pointing in the wrong direction. About a month ago, I switched back to my chin mount, and it's so much better for trail vlogging.
Yes Craig 🔥 … they weren’t open yet when I was there

@@conomona2207 25km same as all Aussie bikes 😢
Did you have to make any adjustments (longer stem, saddle position, sag, etc) to account for the longer fork and geo changes? I just bumped my Ripley AF to 140 and the reach feels much shorter than I thought it would.
@@NEWilliams180 I dropped a few stem spacers but that was about it. This bike is quite long to begin with so I didn’t really notice the change in reach.
Wow Confidence Yard was hard in the dry let alone in the wet. Great to see Dan out of the excavator & on a bike. Well ridden on the small bikes 👊

Can't see eyes getting rattled That is a suspension problem right there but l must admit air suspension is like the worst suspension lv ever used as opposed to spring and oil So are we at Sydney somewhere???
Aware this is an older video now, are you still using the sight? If so what is the long term conclusion of coil on this model sight.
@@mattreids1nglespeed I’m not, but I much preferred the coil over the air on the Sight. I think it would be even better with a coil with HBO
Ha ha, I knew this was coming. went the same route with suspension, but keep 2 sets of wheels and tires - one light xc set for most calm stuff, and one beefier set for chunk and gnar. Love the versatility of this bike. Most pedaling losses come from the tires - weight and drag, so a light set will get you back in the right light place when needed.
That's not a bad idea. I was thinking to just go back to a rekon on the rear as the front tyre doesn't slow you down too much. We'll see though, I've been loving the current setup so not in a huge rush to change it.
I was looking at getting that same 2025 Rockshox SDU rear shock for my V4 Ripley. How does the Pedal mode feel? Is it only for smooth climbing or is it usable for more supportive "poppy" trail riding?
@@frankschock9981 it’s very firm, only for smooth surfaces I’d say.
@MTBMcPhee Shoot thanks for the feedback. I guess I could still dial in a more supportive but plush ride by setting the LSC +2 and HSC -2.

I love the idea of the tallboy, its the trail side of XC... but XCs in the last 2-3 years have come along-long way in both Geo and sus... basically now a XC bike is a lightened trail bike with the same modern long/slack/low geo running maybe just 10mm less fr/rear (i.e. 130/120) which would have been pretty OK as trail length 5 years ago. I do think though that the tallboy is NOT on the do-it all side of trail and that is better left held by a stumpy, SB140, and maybe even an optic OR the 5010.
Agree with you there. I'd like to try a modern XC bike but the low stack heights really put me off, which is one of the reasons I went the TB over some other options.
@@MTBMcPhee true story. Likely would need a much higher rise bar and stem combo with a couple shims.
The picture is so good on that cam. But the angle is pointed down a bit too much. It felt like I couldn't see far enough down the trail to enjoy it as much as some of your other videos. The trails look awesome though!
Interesting. It's the same angle as ever, but I was running a lower bar height so perhaps that was making me look down more than usual. I'll play around with it, thanks.
