The problem with rare is, that it is in fact a really really basic pop album. Literally nothing special or outstanding... after the collaborations (Ain't Me, Wolves) and Bad Liar, Fetish...this just ain't it. It's boring because it's too basic.
Revival had it's own little universe, there was something special. The production was awesome. It was an era on it's own. Rare is just forgettable... it's not bad, but also not outstanding at all. Issa ok. 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah true, I've always been thinking this way too. The songs are pretty repetitive, not really spectacular, and yeah I agree a lot, esp. after the fact that she once released Revival and also A Year Without Rain.
This wasn’t supposed to be selenas next album her droplet era so her songs wolves fetish back to you it ain’t me we’re mean to be apart of an album but then she had her surgery and other things happened so she didn’t continue with it and changed to rare to express her feelings with songs like lose you to love me but she is continuing what she was supposed to do with her album in 2017 she said which will be her next album

As a non stan I didn't hate it, I just thought that it had some amazing songs but at the same time it had some songs that just weren't it. Wasn't legendary, but wasn't bad either. I think that I'll give it a solid 7.5/10
The album was good for the most part but my least favorite songs were Fun and Ring. Some of the best songs though were Vulnerable, Let Me Get Me, Crowded Room, Cut You Off, and A Sweeter Place. It's hard to believe that it's been already a year since Rare has been out. I'm excited for the Revalacion ep now.

This is actually the accurate depiction of my whole reaction to the album. The album songs are okay, but, just that, no song's really makin' me go wow whatever and some are just repetitive, especially the lyrics. It's okay-ly good but not more than that.
Let’s be honest, guys. Lyrically is amazing and meaningful but the production… AND IM A SELENATOR. Plus, she gave us Lose you to love me and it was a serve and then she gave us Rare…
She likes a lot of her songs still, also the “spit bars while singing” wasn’t even negative because she was complimenting it

rare is good and i love souvenir and rare but the issue is that it's still pretty generic. sometimes incredible songwriting can save a generic pop song but selena is not known for good songwriting. so generic production + generic lyrics = no recognition value
she was so negative in this reaction even before listen to the album, you can see in the deluxe ver that she was positive there and try to vibe with the songs.
Maybe because she wasn't expecting big things for this album... Idk she was being honest and I appreciate it.

The deluxe version of Rare (ESPECIALLY the cover art) should've been the definitive Rare, it works better in my opinion.

the songs werent bad but idk the theme of the album is not my favorite. like its all a good message but thats really it you know just celebration but most of the time the songs never take off some exceptions are lytlm, vulnerable, people you know. the production isn’t bad at all because you know its selena but its not my favorite cause its not different like revival’s sound. we need some booming music like the droplets and stop working with so many different producers. the writers were basic and the stories told were very basic so id rather have better sounding music
