  • Understanding the intricate makeup of a narcissist unveils a complex web of traits and behaviors. Central to their persona is a penchant for deception, as lying becomes an integral tool in their manipulation arsenal. Through deceit, narcissists craft a distorted lens through which they perceive and interact with the world, driven by a relentless pursuit of validation and control. Lying is not merely an occasional occurrence but a practiced skill, honed to serve their insatiable ego and shield themselves from perceived threats. Confronted with a narcissistic liar, navigating the terrain becomes a daunting task, fraught with uncertainty and doubt. Yet, beneath the facade of confidence lies a deep-seated fear - a fear of vulnerability, rejection, and ultimately, loss of power. In the realm of therapy, untangling the web of narcissistic fear poses a significant challenge, requiring delicate navigation and skilled intervention to chip away at the layers of deception and cultivate genuine introspection.

My narcissistic mother lied as easily as he breathed. And what a gaslighter! My intuition told me she was messing with my mind and I distrusted her. When I was older, I called her on her BS and broke off our connection, saving myself from further toxicity.

Narcissists aren't very good liars but they want you to believe their lies so they don't get figured out as to what they're doing. They want you to believe they are a good hearted person, who would never hurt you. Sometimes they lie so much that they actually can believe their own lies. My mother blatantly told me "I'd never lie to you" when I know for a fact she has. It's unfortunate that they resort to such a tactic in order to manipulate you.

That's been my general experience. They'll staunchly never admit wrong to an absolute fault. Your words will drain off them like water. Over time though, if you don't address these issues within yourself, you may get worn down and begin to believe their version of virtual reality in world 2.0. They are the thermostat and everyone else is a thermometer making sure world 2.0 stays intact with their illusion of control.

I see narcissists as living their lives very externally, as if their own inner world is hidden and their image and how they're treated by others takes precedence, so it makes sense that they lie a lot. I'm a people pleaser, so I have also lied a lot in my life, not to gain admiration but because I'm terrified of conflict. People lie for different reasons. I'm not saying it's good to lie. I guess it's just interesting to think how awry your life has gotten to be that it seems impossible to be authentic. I think narcissists have boomeranged away from themselves, as many of us have, in the absence of a secure attachment.

The covert narc I knew was a very good liar. I had no idea who she really was. Then once you see through them you can't unsee it and it looks blatant.

My guess is that most of them are good at lying due to lots of practice and a loose sense of right and wrong. But they are not all great liars. However, I think they all believe that they are good liars, or that they at the very least have the capability to be.

"Wall-hugging liar" is a phrase I'm going to keep. 😅 Btw, I feel gratified that I'm not the only one who skates holding the edges! ❤

You will never detect "a good liar" because their heart doesn't even skip a beat when they lie, it comes that naturally to them...and some narcissists believe their own lies, while others are fully aware they're lying and expects others to believe those lies, even if they're bad at lying

What do you think of traumatized people who bypass psychology altogether by becoming a born again christian instead, then go around thinking this is the cure for everyone else, and not respecting them as people unless they convert? Clearly a problem I have run into in my life. : / Do you ever get clients who talk about the lord as if that's all they need? My first counsellor turned out to be Evangelical, and told me that to his thinking I had "the devil" in me. I politely then fired him.

See I do say if only everyone could take my advice it would be a much better place but ai mean that coming from the very best place. I have the most ridiculously good judgment of character. I just know things. I see through people. I read people very well. Like psychic level. I just wish I could save my loved ones. Its hard to watch. My mother the most as she has no self respect at all after being with a narcissist for 15 years. She was always far from perfect but its the worst its ever been now.
