@Roxie, The Poison Type Gym Leader. Dinosaurs are members of the clade Dinosauria, which includes most typical dinosaurs we think of, such as the t-rex, sauropods, stegosaurus, velociraptors, and modern day birds. Dinosaurs are a subcategory of Archosaurs, which also include crocodiles and pterosaurs. This makes crocodiles the closest living relatives to birds. While plesiosaurs aren't archosaurs per se, they are thought to be more closely related to archosaurs than lepidosaurs (snakes and lizards). The only explanation I could come up with for cloyster is that it may have developed the ice type to resist grass type predators, a typing which commonly uses special attacks, passing cloyster’s physical barrier of a shell
I've always interpreted the reason that Cloyster is Ice type as being that it was supposed to add to the illusion of Cloyster's shell being super hard, adding an extra type to show how far it has come from being a weak little Shellder, and since Steel hadn't introduced at that point, they used Ice, presumably cos it seemed thematically appropriate (Just look at Lapras and its hard shell). Though that brings into question why they used Ice rather than, say, Rock, which actually has resistances to things other than itself and is based around the mons being rock hard. And if you're thinking that its because they already had the Omanyte and Kabuto lines, Gen I didn't care about over using dual types; just look at Rock/Ground, Grass/Poison, Normal/Flying, Water/Psychic or even Cloyster's current typing of Water/Ice which is also shared by Dewgong and Lapras
Father Pucci - Made in Heaven aurora borealis is the name game Ben to polar lights in the north, yes. Unless I’m wrong. Also, where is this pet of the country and when is this time of day?
I feel it needs to be pointed out that Plesiosaurs aren't Dinosaurs, sharing a common archesaur ancestor but diverging due to evolving for a fully aquatic lifestyle. Other than that I've been enjoying this series which I finally looked at after seeing it recommended for months. Great stuff I hope you keep making more quality videos like these for a very long time
A few things: 1. Regarding Rotom, imagine being told not just to punch a refrigerator, but also an oven, a lawn mower, a washing machine, and a rotor fan all because they're being haunted by a lightning ghost 2. I thought for a sec that Crabrawler evolved into Crabominable by basically going Rocky IV, but the explanation they gave is apparantley far stupider 3. God dammit Cloyster, the hell is wrong with you?
Wholesome I think normal in pokemon moves means like generic or basic which makes sense because most of the normal moves are just things creatures just do naturally or at least the first category of normal moves things like scratch, tackle, slam, etc. ( honestly bite and crunch should have also been normal type). Then there is there the if it doesn't match the properties of any other type then it defaults to normal these are things like substitute(honestly due to the deceiving nature of dark types this move probably would have made sense to be dark but I'm not game freak), wish(why isn't it a fairy type move?), swords dance, double team, morning sun (for some strange reason even though every other sun based move is fire or grass), swagger etc. As for the actual pokemon IDK what normal is supposed to mean. That would make an interesting video trying to define normal and why they have that typing.
Nope, monitor lizards are still considered lizards. Simply mosasaurus is considered to be aquatic lizard. Othermarine reptiles do not belong to any modern branchas of reptiles (crocodilia, squamata, sphenodontia, aves)
It doesn't matter whether Ornithischian or Saurischian. All dinosaurs are most closely related to birds. Ornithischian are closer to birds but there isn't anything more related to dinosaurs than birds.
Azumarill is correct, most dinosaurs have hollow ish bones and its questionable that they might have had air sacks like today's birds and thats how they supported a large body volume, even the largest or the first dinosaurs with this feature are far more related to birds than reptiles despite the millions of years between them.
HappyBagelKing everybody saids that but have anybody ever thought that fairy types also represent the good type and in fairy tales... Well we know what happend to dragons there....
Explanation for Clouseter: Game freak had had been giving the ice type to whatever might fit it, so they probably thought that, well it's a clam, so, ICE TYPE, without even realizing that it made no sense because of his features.
"There's only one I" Yes, however, it's cry goes "REGI-IIIICE" And when in doubt, I'll believe the cry. So, Regi-ice is the correct pronunciation. Also since it's part of the Regi's.
Its cry in the game just sounds like a distorted groan. And the recent episode "Leaping Towards the Dream" in Pokemon Journeys changed it to "Reg-ice".

When you read japanese, pronounce every single syllable, it's like Spanish or Italian. So "kitsune" is pronounced "kit-suu-nay" not "kit-soon". Just a linguistics masters student trying to help out lol
however, the America Kitsune is different than Japanese kitsune isn't it? Kitsune in Japanese is a fox, America's Kitsune is the Japanese Yokai (think i spelled that right) that takes the form of a fox where it's tails determine it's power. I much rather hear the mispronunciation when referring to the Yokai.
What if Cloyster is a reference to the mushi-shi that hides inside shells when there's disaster? They look like birds and sing to call thier brothers to the shore. If you hear one, you lose the ability to speak. I learned about them in the anime Mushi-Shi (seriously, go watch it. It might explain a few other Pokemon). It's a stretch, but there's a lot of yokai in the ice type family already.

is you have a correction to make you can make it without being obnoxious and the whale thing was simply a comparison to help others understand, if you are so smart why did you fail so miserably to pick up on that.
Stormgem Thunder nope :) it's a common misconception. general rule of thumb is that only the ones that walked on land, rather than flew or swam, were dinosaurs. Birds are the exception, in that they're dinosaurs who can fly, but when comparing big Mesozoic reptiles the above rule is pretty accurate
I forgot to mention something. It´s not about their characteristics, it´s about their looks. Even thought Seel is based on a narwhal and Dewgong is based on a dugong, you can look at their faces that appearance. Seel has a more "attached" face just like dugongs and Dewgong looks more cute just like a seal

@@e4ehco21 greens and yellows, yes! Instead of the blues and pinks!
I love Ice type Pokemon :) Thanks for these videos!
But pleisiosaurs weren't actually dinosaurs
I flinched when he said "Unlike most Dinosaurs"
Came to make that comment.
Bram Jans excavtly im a dinosaur myself and I know what a dinosaur is
Questionable furry art in thumbnail? All is as it should be.
Dyl Jax i don’t think this Glaceon is questionable... at least not compared to the Umbreon in the dark type video
gameb9oy or the lucario
WE NEED MORE FURRIES.
I mean... ya got me? But yes we do need more furries.
I prefer that than a Lucario Fan Art 😖
Hell, Gen I didn't even care about overusing monotypes. Poison might be my second favorite type but there are SO MANY in Gen 1.
Aurora borealis is not all polar lights, just the northern ones. Polar lights in the south are aurora australis.
Omega Henry aurora borealis?! At this time of year at this time of day in this part of the country, localized entirely within the north?
Father Pucci - Made in Heaven aurora borealis is the name game Ben to polar lights in the north, yes. Unless I’m wrong. Also, where is this pet of the country and when is this time of day?
Omega Henry He's referencing a meme, my dude.
Do you not get the meme he was referencing? Look up Steamed hams.
Great stuff I hope you keep making more quality videos like these for a very long time
How about we go from least to most common? Water next!
DO GHOST TYPES
Kevin Hanson did you just read my mind because if you did stop it no seriously
Kevin Hanson yes ghost types 👻
Ok, a lot of people are asking for the Glaceon thumbnail source, look in the description. Thank me later.
It's in the credits. I just kept skimming the main paragraph... XD
No... I dont think I will
A few things:
1. Regarding Rotom, imagine being told not just to punch a refrigerator, but also an oven, a lawn mower, a washing machine, and a rotor fan all because they're being haunted by a lightning ghost
2. I thought for a sec that Crabrawler evolved into Crabominable by basically going Rocky IV, but the explanation they gave is apparantley far stupider
3. God dammit Cloyster, the hell is wrong with you?
Do fairy next! Or dragon.
(P.S. can you do grass, fire, and water one after the other when you get to them. That would be so fitting).
Lockstin: *Mentions the legendary bird trio*
Lugia:
Can you do Normal type next? I mean like the Pokemon world is throwing the word "normal" around. What even is normal?
Wholesome Those type - shaming bastards
@@petelee2477 because fairy type did not exist
@@asrieldreemurr1988 they changed moonlight to a fairy type move why can't wish be changed to fairy?
@@petelee2477 oh yeah
Plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs. They're lizards that evolved for life underwater and are completely unrelated to dinosaurs.
Nope, monitor lizards are still considered lizards. Simply mosasaurus is considered to be aquatic lizard. Othermarine reptiles do not belong to any modern branchas of reptiles (crocodilia, squamata, sphenodontia, aves)
Oops, my mistake. Either way they aren't nearly as related to dinosaurs as dinosaurs are to birds.
Depends on the dino. Ornithischians, such as raptors, are more closely related to birds than other dinos based on their similar pelvic structure.
Lockstin:Slick and hard
Steel:Im literally right here
Do The fairys next I wanna hear your explanation for that type in general.
And fairies kill dragons because... Metagame
HappyBagelKing theres the whole dragons slayed in fairytales argument
Yeah... that too...
HappyBagelKing everybody saids that but have anybody ever thought that fairy types also represent the good type and in fairy tales... Well we know what happend to dragons there....
Yes, I watched MandJ's video on it. (BTW sorry if you read that in a rude fashion, not trying to be a douche)
Explanation for Clouseter: Game freak had had been giving the ice type to whatever might fit it, so they probably thought that, well it's a clam, so, ICE TYPE, without even realizing that it made no sense because of his features.
Witherman180 or it's base arround a yokai looking like an oyster with ice properties.
Or the black middle is made of ice
"There's only one I" Yes, however, it's cry goes "REGI-IIIICE" And when in doubt, I'll believe the cry. So, Regi-ice is the correct pronunciation. Also since it's part of the Regi's.
Its cry in the game just sounds like a distorted groan. And the recent episode "Leaping Towards the Dream" in Pokemon Journeys changed it to "Reg-ice".
Actually, ice cream cones in the Pokemon universe are based off the vinilux line.
IN THOSE BETA pokemon there is the actual caracole shell who slowbro wear in his tail... also delibird have a santa beard in the original desing too XD
2:20 Yes, it's based off of a mythological creature that was supposed to be beautiful, a nymph of some sort if I remember correctly.
Edit: 2:28 Oh yeah, I forgot that it was one of your videos that I learned that from, I thought it was someone else's channel that I had seen it on.
Can't wait for the furry art in Fairy Types explained!
Some Gamer NOOOO

Yesss love the furry art 😹
Love this series :) Thank you for producing such fab, entertaining content!
MandJTV : Did you just say that castform is nasty? *Mega Evolves* I HAVE ABSORBED THE POWER OF SQUIRTLE!!!
Feels a lil chilly in here.
lol I see what u did there
lol dat pun
Ba dum tsss...
Cool down with puns.
Dont find it that funny, guess I have a cold sense of humor
How about the most loosely defined type- fairy type.
Adude601 ehh not really most fairy types are trickster or cause annoyance to humans.just like fairies in real myths.
Thinking more with “what kinds of færies could they be based off of.”
Fairy types are literally just based on fairy tales
ring ghoul yes and no. Different cultures have different definitions of færies. The US tends to see them like pixies. Super cute and friendly. The UK and MANY other places see them as pests, tricksters and sometimes downright nasty
China sees them as good fortune and some other places are them as one a
Mindy Auron ik that but that's literally the reason why fairy is immune to dragon
8:13 In a frozen cave below -50 degrees farehniet
Glaceon: This is fine
When you read japanese, pronounce every single syllable, it's like Spanish or Italian. So "kitsune" is pronounced "kit-suu-nay" not "kit-soon". Just a linguistics masters student trying to help out lol
however, the America Kitsune is different than Japanese kitsune isn't it? Kitsune in Japanese is a fox, America's Kitsune is the Japanese Yokai (think i spelled that right) that takes the form of a fox where it's tails determine it's power. I much rather hear the mispronunciation when referring to the Yokai.
It seems to me that you are the expert, Mar- I mean TheKinglax94.
Karwan Kadir is his name Martin or something?
Karwan Kadir I actually don't get this joke
It's a quote from The Room.
Felicity Swan makes sense
Lockstin: Let's cover the *Ice types*
Me: Blasts *Frostbite Caves* music from pvz2 ❄️❄️☃️☃️⛄⛄
Wait the thing about ice on Articuno can be true because for some ice dragons they are made out of magical ice that is like armor and can bend
Whenever someone calls a Plesiosaurs "Dinosaurs"
REEEEEEEEE
I don't think lockstin knows that dinosaurs couldn't swim. The plesiosaur is classified as a swimming reptile not a dinosaur.
everytime i feel a cold breeze i feel like falling asleep
kizune kazukarune sane here idk why
kizune kazukarune Every time I’m cold I feel so alive. Too bad I hardly get cold anymore.
And you forgot about Snover and Abomasnow.
Vlad Prus yea, notice that too I had to go back to make sure
Vlad Prus well Abomasnow is a pine tree and Snover is just a guy living in icy region wearing coats.
12:47 well with the regional form, now can use this big mistake and give us a new Cloyster
now we are gonna take a fridge, then we give it eyes OK . And then we give it electric arms because its fridge after just make it fly it only weighs 300 lb. it can walk through walls disappear and fly its much more unique than the other guy
Danny-Rotom
(Still can’t clone himself just right, just ends up with a living fridge)
Imagine yourself wanting to get a nice cold coke. And your fridge suddenly starts to gain eyes and attack you.....
I would be terrified!
"They just chuck Regice into a volcano. That's how it works, right?"
Before I even watch the video, i bet there's gonna be a "coolest type" joke
Edit: yup
Where is Abomasnow?
You're probably going to get a lot of this, but plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs.
And stepping down from spirits we have FITNESS BOXING 2
Did you have to call plesiosaurs dinosaurs? Did you have to say they were early whales? Come on mate
No they were aquatic reptiles no whales because whales are mammals
He said they were like early whales. It's a comparison.
is you have a correction to make you can make it without being obnoxious and the whale thing was simply a comparison to help others understand, if you are so smart why did you fail so miserably to pick up on that.
HootingLance Oh. Plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs
You know what's funny? Dugong is mostly based on a seal and Seel is mostly based on a dugong
10:17
"... Are *said* to be made of ice"
It's just a thing people say, not something the pokedex claim.
Ghost Type next! And good luck trying to scientifically explain them.
Kerath most are really easy to explain
Great Video as Always!!
Fun fact, in Germany, Regice is actually pronounced Regi-Ice (Regi=King in Latin) but writing it with double I would look stupid. That's why it only has one I.
You should do fairy types
Edit: also flying, dragon, and grass
I think he plans to do them all eventually.
He's doing them all
