this was performed 2 days after 9/11. I actually felt healed after seeing them and hearing this. It gave me hope. And of course the BC's are my FAVORITE r & r band today.
Had only heard studio version here till now. As much as I love that , THIS stripped down version sounds GREAT!! Chris's soul filled vocals, Rich's rockin'-ass guitar, & beautiful back up singers. awesome!!
Lots of real soul coming from such a stripped down set up. The only instrument you're hearing at all is Rich plugging an old Tele straight in to a vintage Fender tube amp and that's it. No pedals, no other instruments, just a Tele with one guy leading vocals and two chicks and Rich on background vocals. Of all the videos out there and all the cool stuff there is to see on the 'net, I still probably get more real enjoyment out of this than I do from any of the rest of it. Every couple of months or so I end up coming back and watching this again and loving it. That is some serious, good feeling, soulful music. The real deal, Holyfield.
Black Crowes , my gosh what do you say to the finest of " Soul Singing " , Coming from the Hearts of the Most Amazing Band on Earth ! I love you guy's dearly , Terri Warren ♡♡♡
come back my souls dying get rid of your ego,s bro,s please dont let rock and blues die rap yuppie mainstream throughing up bring back soul like otis redding, commodores, and all blues greats you guys are like motown meets blues thanks for all the years of gold...
I was living in Washington DC on 9/11/01...and remember watching this performance...I teared up then...and today, 9/11/13...watching it again...the tears are there again. God bless our fallen.
True. The Crowes are the followers of the great 70ies Stones. Closest to them stylistically because of Open G tuning style. The only band from today which I really love. But not only Chris is great. Dont forget Rich he is phantastic too. Great guitarist.
One of the all time favorites for me.... Has a personal meaning. Hell, these guys jammed with Led Zeppelin members, who else can say that??? A fantastic song, a fantastic meaning, positively in tune with the universe. What else can you say?
This is perfect. I'm trying to learn this on guitar, and having rich be the only one playing is going to help me out a lot. This whole album is an all time favorite of mine, Rich's playing is fantastic.
Wow, all my years of being a Croweshead and I've never seen this Conan performance ... thanks for the upload - and THAT is how a telecaster should sound. Awesome.
The songs from By Your Side and Lions were seriously underrated when those albums came out. But they sound much better when performed in a stripped down setting like this, which seems to do them more justice. It seems to bring out the song's true soulfulness, in a way the studio version never could.
Some band. Some musicians. Some song. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Right up there with Stones, Faces, G & R and the Allmans, second to none. By the way, those incredible, hot back-up girls don't seem to be getting the attention they deserve. Who are they, anyway? They are what makes this not just a good 12-bar boogie piece but a classic rock gospel anthem.
Thanks for sharing that one. I really like that tune and had never seen that clip. I've been to around 28 Crowes concerts and at every single show these guys just rip the fucking roof of the place. Every venue, ever show. Best American rock and roll band ever. Thanks again.

I have nothing to say , the only word i'm gonna say is GREAT.
Blood....Brothers... that bond will never stop, interupted, perhaps...but their gift to us will continue forever. Recorded and re-posted thanks to the crowes and the fine folks of UA-cam.
As evidenced by my login name, I have been a baseline Crowes fan since Day 1. Didn't catch this performance, though... Thanks for posting, and, LONG LIVE THE CROWES!
Rocker53zero,I love this thank you for sharing! I love The Black Crowes, you made my Birthday with this ,and all the presents, but most of all, your time you give to me everyday,I never expected everything you have given me in the past year and a half! x hugz ♥ me x
Jeff Cease was the original guitarist to accompany the Crowes on "Shake your Money Maker", he was from Tennessee. But He only Played on their first album. He was replaced by Marc Ford for The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion, Amorica and Three Snakes, then Audley Freed replaced him for "By Your Side" and Lions. The current guitarist is Luther Dickenson from the North Mississippi Allstars.
@honeybeebrownmissy Thanks, honeybeebrownmissy! The Crowes always have a great lineup. The back up singers take the song - and a lot of Crowes songs - from good to great. "Barb and Joy" are two names that are ringing in my mind, but I'll take it from you.
Ow ow, great song, reminds me very much of the old days with the faces (rod steward/ron wood) and steve marriot, they studied them very well, fresh sound though
i agree with you totally that is THE telecaster sound rich robinson and keith richards have the best tone ever. i play a tele thru a 212 fender deville. i can get pretty close to that but that is PERFECTION
this is from conan! i remember watching this.. came on after the 9-11 attack.. this is a really good arrangement, i like how rich played on an electric when a steel-string seems like a call.
Anyone in 2022 watching? This is music at its ultimate… just guitar, vocals and soul. So glad I came across this performance.
2023 my dude

that guitar tone is just butter !
That's the greatest esquire tone ever.
Rich Robinson never ceases to amaze me
He is SOOOO good!
I think he might like Keith Richards a little
@@californiagrace6868 he has taken the open g tuning farther on down the trail where keith had cleared the path before him, awsome!
That boy must've stood in line, twice, when God was handing out soul!..
Gave me the chills. Incredible vocals. Awesome guitar.
Brilliant version of this track!! Maybe the best?!
Word
this is honestly one of the best songs ive heard in a long, long time.
we're not worthy....
of such a genius....
underrated.....that voice is glorious...
This was so emotional. Perfect song considering the moment of time our country was in.
Had only heard studio version here till now. As much as I love that , THIS stripped down version sounds GREAT!! Chris's soul filled vocals, Rich's rockin'-ass guitar, & beautiful back up singers. awesome!!

mrrockandroll It's an Esquire not a Tele. 😉
Good call, Sybex7254, you are correct.
56’ Esquire
Seeing this right after 2001 9/11 really helped to heal me. Thanks to the Robinson Brothers.
Black Crowes , my gosh what do you say to the finest of " Soul Singing " , Coming from the Hearts of the Most Amazing Band on Earth ! I love you guy's dearly , Terri Warren ♡♡♡

That - is exactly how I feel. Friends.
Shame it was an inside job....... like the PLANdemic.
For you Cazz
Glad I could bring you to attention of one of the greatest rock bands of the 90's
True. The Crowes are the followers of the great 70ies Stones. Closest to them stylistically because of Open G tuning style. The only band from today which I really love. But not only Chris is great. Dont forget Rich he is phantastic too. Great guitarist.
hands down one of the best bands to see live
just pure raw talent.not computer generated noise..total vocals and guitar..that's what tells the true musicians from the garbage.
Soul don't need set, or shoes, just heart felt groove!!!!!!!!!
These boys are a true national treasure;
One of the all time favorites for me.... Has a personal meaning. Hell, these guys jammed with Led Zeppelin members, who else can say that??? A fantastic song, a fantastic meaning, positively in tune with the universe. What else can you say?

I LOVE this sound...
Wow, all my years of being a Croweshead and I've never seen this Conan performance ... thanks for the upload - and THAT is how a telecaster should sound. Awesome.
Hell yeah! The Crowes mix the best of the Stones, Allmans, and Zeppelin yet remain innovative! Can't wait for the new stuff
This guys are great!
Pure talent!

Great live performance!
Lovin the Esquire tone.
This was right after 9/11, you can sense a somber mood. They nailed it though. As usual.
Great guitar tone, Robinson is so fucking brilliant
did anyone catch what chris said at the end of the song? Was it a message to his brother? What an amazing performance.
its shows how a good there song-writing is with just a guitar and vocal.
Jeff Cease was the original guitarist to accompany the Crowes on "Shake your Money Maker", he was from Tennessee. But He only Played on their first album. Yeah, I have that cd. I think that if it ever stops raining has a little bit of a faster tempo.
Damn. That guitar sound (2)...
Awesome
Increible!!
If I remember correctly, this was a night or two after 9/11

@honeybeebrownmissy Thanks, honeybeebrownmissy! The Crowes always have a great lineup. The back up singers take the song - and a lot of Crowes songs - from good to great. "Barb and Joy" are two names that are ringing in my mind, but I'll take it from you.
@F3FisGoodforYou It's "Late Night with Conan O' Brien" on September 20th, 2001.
Ow ow, great song, reminds me very much of the old days with the faces (rod steward/ron wood) and steve marriot, they studied them very well, fresh sound though
I liked this version, pretty cool
i agree with you totally
that is THE telecaster sound
rich robinson and keith richards have the best tone ever.
i play a tele thru a 212 fender deville. i can get pretty close to that but that is PERFECTION
For some reason on my Crowes cd it calls this song "if it ever stops raining."
That was fuckin brilliant!
this is from conan! i remember watching this.. came on after the 9-11 attack.. this is a really good arrangement, i like how rich played on an electric when a steel-string seems like a call.
soul
song writing came back when the crows showed up...
Absolutely great! Does he play an old Fender ´57 tweed amp or the new handwired reissue?
