There are lots of videos talking about the negative effects of interlocking dreadlocks. I made this video to try and explain some things you can do to prevent yourself from having a negative experience. Interlocking has worked wonders for me, but it can depend on your hair type. Also, make sure you are not doing it too often as that can result in damage or thinning. I hope this video helps! Let me know if you have any questions and I can answer them in a future video.

This is the first time I've seen your channel. And I'm watching it in Feb 2024, so it's two years old. I started studying about locs 10 months ago and my locs are 8 months old now. I live in an area that we don't have many locticians. Mine were done at a beauty collage. I've had maintenance done twice but it's been five months since I've gone in and I've been doing my own loc maintenance. I do lots of root rubbing and a little interlocking but I've never seen it described as you have done here. It makes sense and I will for sure try it as I have two locks that have taken on that braided look and I'd like to avoid that. I'm now subscribed so I hope to learn much more from you. Thank you!!!

I really love root flipping and I have thin stick straight hair. With some trial and error I realized some sections are too large to root flip. Like over a square inch was way too thick for me. I like having smaller sections like yours to root flip. It helped them mature really fast my thinner sections became stiffened within a year. I've since brushed them out but I'd like to back one day and do the bottom half of my head only. It just looks better for work and I can do fun stuff with the loose hair too. It's a hassle to clean but I've dont it before its doable.

I have had dreads now for almost 4 years and I've always been interested in interlocking but have heard the horror stories so I've been too nervous to try. I'd really like to see how you actually do it. I'll be checking out the rest of your channel! Thanks for the tips!

I love interlocking. It works better for my wavy hair that has frizzies than just crocheting.

What an informative video! I also heard all the talk about interlocking so I crochet mine. Since my reasons to do them are to lessen the constant fussing on my hair, I will wait for them to grow and make knots. That way I can do the simple method of interlocking. How long should my grow out be before flipping them? At one inch, they are not yet mated. I have very fine type 2 hair. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    Hi :)
OMG, you saved my life so far. Thank you so much. :)
Finally someone, who speaks my "language". I´m from Germany and finally manage to find someone, who practicing interlocking and having beautiful dreads for such a long time. I watched so many videos on UA-cam and follow many people on Instagram too. But only methods I can´t really do by myself, because I´m to "stupid" to crochet them. I have a really nice woman, who´s doing my dreads at the moment. But I wanna do it by myself and really hoped to find a method, which I´m able to do. I really liked the interlocking since I discovered it. But the most videos are not really my hair type, if you know what I mean. I love the look of african hair....but it´s not the same....and I always thought, I will never do interlocking, because it will not work for my hair. And them I found your video. :)
I´m pretty new to the dreadlock family. My entire life, I loved them since I saw them for the first time. Nobody understands me and talking bad things about them, because not knowing what dreadlocks are and how to manage the entire thing. Telling me things like: they are smelly, made with bananas ( wth, lol ) and so on. True, there was no internet to get the right informations. I´m 45 years now and decided finally to start my dreads 16 month ago. I try to this point everything to have nice hair. I got perms, used products as hell, colored it, tried different styles and cuttings....but nothing I really like for a longer time. After trying bleaching too and with shaved neck and sides I started my dreads on the top of my head. I was so in love with my hair finally....no regrets, the only regret was, why I don´t start earlier. ;) Now my neck got some dreads too, they are only 4 month now. I have extensions too. Some are on my shoulders and some near my chin. That´s not the problem. But when I go to maintain them, the crocheting is really tight and pricey ( okay, everybody neats money to live ). But she managed, that my extensions ( the older ones ) are really thick and heavy now, thicker than my own hair ones. The new ones are really thin. My extensions are human hair extensions. For a while now, I think, that I can never have longer dreads, when this shorter ones are to heavy, because of the proportions they have, I think. And now I think, that I will cut them off and try the interlocking. Maybe on two of them ( one older and one of the younger ones ), in the middle. So you can´t see it, when they are to short for me and I have to wait a while longer before cutting the rest off.
I really love your videos and I need more :) I follow you on Instagram now too. Much love from Germany sends Sylvia and a beautiful day :)

Please bring up some more videos I don’t have anyone around here that does my type of hair and it’s so frustrating because I want them so bad and all I hear is a negative thing saying that my hair type of brake off I’ll never be able to brush them out and things like that and it’s so discouraging but I want them so very badly

Hi, absolutely love your locs. So I just saw your first video on locs and you were talking about how your first set wasn't flexible at all and the ones you have now are feeling just like hair. I had the same problem with my first set of locs and I just wanted to ask how can I prevent that from happening again and get the new to have like a structure like yours.

I can't buy ebook, it's not working and no website working either. I have dreads for a year & a half and I do them myself. I don't like social media but want to get my dreads where I'm comfortable & you are the first person that I'm even remotely interested in because your dreads move like I want mine to. Please help me! I know everyone says interlocking us bad but I don't care what people say, I care about facts. How can I get your book? Where is your new content? I don't know what else to do. Please help. I have 54 dreads but they are stuff, I like them for a day a week when I wash them but then back to not comfortable again. Please help me!!!

Hi there! Yes I’m sure you can do that as I have seen other people do it. It’s just not the method I use so I can’t speak about it or recommend it. I only recommend techniques that I have used on my own dreads. The techniques that I use have worked perfectly for me so I don’t feel the need to learn new techniques - if it’s not broke don’t fix it! I use minimal crocheting, just to clean up flyaways. Good luck with your future dread journey! 😊

interlocking ruined my dreads :( it made them so skinny, and with my sectioning it looked horrible. had to totally brush out all my dreads because there was no coming back from 6 months of interlocking

Hi Megan! I am sorry interlocking hurt your dreads and caused you to remove them. This is exactly why I am trying to show how to do it properly because there are a lot of videos of people speaking against interlocking. But for me, interlocking has given me beautiful healthy dreadlocks, but only because I don't do it very often. If you did '6 months of interlocking,' then I think you did it too much and put too much strain on the hair which caused them to thin out. You need to allow the hair to grow out for a while first, so the hair can knot up on its own. In my opinion, for caucasian hair, interlocking should not be used to create the knots, but to create a casing around the knots that are forming on their own, like how I explained in this video. I only interlock my roots every 8-10 months MAX. Any more than that can cause issues. There are also other methods you can use to clean up your roots between interlocking sessions, which I plan to discuss further on my channel. Hope this helps, and I hope your bad experience with interlocking didn't turn you away from dreadlocks forever. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to find the method that works with your hair type. It took me 3 sets of dreads to finally get it right! Good luck :)
