Great tutorial, it clarifies well the usage of MIDI on the BB.
I guess it would be good to have a traditional "thru" mode as well in tools though.

Are the transport buttons able to be controlled via MIDI? Specifically, can one assign REC STOP and PLAY each to their own pad? Can't find any direct reference to this in the manual so I assume not but thought I would ask in case I was missing something or couldn't grasp the obvious. Thanks !
Currently, no. Those functions are not controllable via MIDI. However, this is a highly requested feature!
@@1010music Thank for your reply! I can see why its's requested, especially if one is trying to control Bb from an external MIDI device. If anyone could figure out how to implement this, it's probably you folks!
The Keys section plays the sound of last selected pad right? How can I lock a sample that is played by the Keys section. Because when I play the BB pads using external pads in my Beatstep Pro’s drum sequencer the last played Pad becomes the one that is played in the Keys section. This way I can’t seem to play the Keys section (which can be triggered using a different midi channel) using one of the two sequencer tracks of the Beatstep Pro because the selected pad changes when I play them from the Beatstep Pro drum sequencer track eventhough both sections respond to different midi channels. What setting am I using wrong or overlooking?

No info on setting up MIDI sync?
MIDI Sync is plug & play. There is no setting because the Blackbox will follow incoming sync, when present. The blackbox can receive ClockSource from TRS MIDI, USB MIDI, or Analog clock.
looks so easy. but dont work for me:( -i just want to have the faderfox ec4 for controlling the volume of each pad. the midi learn doesnt work. i dont know why. the connection is over usb. the control screen on the faderfox shows that midi cc is goin out of the controller and if i trigger a pad on the bb the same screen shows that a midi note is coming in. but to connect an encoder of the faderfox to a parameter on the bb is still impossible for me...maybe there is some basic stuff in the midisetup i dont understand...maybe there is a screen on the bb to check if midi is coming in? it seems that it isn t so...i push learn -learn turns blue, i twist the encoder on the faderfox, the learn button stays blue. its the fifth day im trying. it have to work. i also tried different firmwares on the bb, i tried different controllers -tried to play some notes with the microfreak as keyboard, or tried to midi learn a korg nano control. same result: nothing.

@@jamesdmorgan heey hey: to be short: solved and: i can highly recommend the ec4 and the blackbox:)
long: the "solution/problem" was: i tried to midi learn the controller on the bb without ever saving a preset on the bb. so i always turned on an "initial" bb. this was the only noticable difference. as i started to make music with the bb without controller AND SAVED some crafted presets the controller worked as easy as shown in this vid. i thougt: yo, nothing changed but i know electrons are wicked sometimes, so lets give the midi learn thing another try: worked instantly.
SO MY SOLUTION IN SHORT: you have to save a preset on the bb first to be able to connect a midicontroller.
recommendation: no one from faderfox or 1010 music gave me the solution but maybe it was my strange unattended user-behavior;) the girls and dudes in the forums of 1010music where veeery nice and mathias from faderfox via email support too. both great companies with great devices and instant (fast) support:)
the ec4 is an outstanding controller. endless encoders: so when you use several "setups" you never have the question: knobs: jump or catch mode^^
the display and option to name your controls: unique and more than usefull.
plus it can merge midi: means you can connect your keystep to midi in of the ec4 and send it "thru" it and can control the bb with the keystep and the ec4 without extern midi merger:) big plus too. the housing is a bit plasticy but still solid and overall the look and layout really attractive.
@@jungstrauma4 fantastic. Have ordered one. I have 2 uc4 controllers which I use for my Bluebox Octatrack and digitone but this feels perfect for Blackbox. Thanks for replying!

can i use Roli Block M with the BB ?
Not directly. The Blocks draw more power than the USB Device port provides.

Is it possible to control the mute section with a ext. Controller?
You can mute pads from external controllers, but not from the MUTE screen at this time.
