Dont see how they still in business. People cracking 6s they paid peanuts for getting 10s back. They wouldn't have gotten them cheap if they were really 10s. Costing the actual original pack buyer leaving them out of pocket.
I absolutely love the on the spot grading service idea. Thats why ive never graded a card in all my years. I dont trust the graders or the process unseen. Do it Jeff!
I have sat in those seats behind home plate in PNC. They are amazing. The view is incredible, you get a full buffet meal in the private restaurant before each game plus private ushers/waiters who serve you free food and drinks all game. It’s unbelievable. The tickets around about $250- $300 each. I’m a school teacher, so I make almost no money and it was worth the money. If I lived in Pittsburgh instead of Western Canada I’d do that deal in a heartbeat!
As many cards as PSA grades, they could offer free shipping. I know they could get a deal with a carrier. Insurance too maybe. Charging that high shipping is like the bums who do it on Ebay- adding extra shipping to try and off set the loss on declared value.
Honestly, every Gamestop will always depend on the employee who is working, some are very knowledgeable but, there's the few that don't know anything and just have a job...lol
Take it easy…he’s just the investor. They will likely have to sell out but Beckett won’t be affected. Rich people gonna fight over who gets to fleece the company’s profits.
The Upcharges on shipping are going to be crazy. Before I knew how to change the max declared value on the iPhone, my shipping was $200 more than expected. If they say they are all max, it’s going to suck
Back in the 90’s Dr. James Beckett’s son supposedly held onto a bunch of Frank Thomas Leaf rookies and at that time Beckett was the primary place to get your price guide. Did I dream this or does anyone else remember hearing about it??
Guys. Open a Cards HQ here in the Northern Nevada area (Elko, Winnemaca, Battle Mountain). There's nothing from Reno-Salt Lake, and there's a huge demand for a sports card shop. I'm a local pastor and don't have the capitol but if you ever think about expanding please consider coming here. God bless you guys and Jesus loves you!
You are an amazing entrepreneur and it would not surprise me in the least if you one day took over Beckett. You envision it and you can make it happen!!
Forced sale of company to new company, dr. Beckett brought on as consultant, improvement of tech, space, storage, expansion of and increase in facilities, just like PSA all of which would fix the company. Otherwise you have to dissolve it/sell to PSA
I look at Beckett magazines some to look at the prices. I don't know why the Baseball issues does not have all prices from say 1940's to 2024. I didn't know Beckett was sold even once.
Apparently a slew of GameStop stores in New England have just had to halt submissions because they were not being done correctly. I currently have my first 20 held up until a regional director visits each location for this that or the other thing. Got any more info on this? Apparently the freeze started yesterday.
Oddly, Beckett actually has a huge name in the hobby. It always will if someone comes along to preserve the brand and rebuild it into something it has not been for a while.
Changing all Beckett 9.5 slabs to 10 would destroy the existing 10 and Pristine labels. 😂 Customers would be outraged. All the high rollers with huge BGS 10 collections would probably sue.
I sent a few cards to them that were really nice a few years ago and got different ones back with terrible grades, terrible experience on the two times I sent them cards, not real shocked
I only startedp collecting a little over a year ago and i used Becketts platform at first because i had heard a lot of good stuff. Long story but it does make me sad.
As someone who actually does live in Pittsburgh, I can tell you almost no one here would make the Skenes card trade for 30 years of season tickets. 20 straight losing seasons is a record that can only be broken by this same Pirates franchise. Likely that the next 30 years will have MAYBE 3 winning seasons in there. If we're lucky.
Are the GameStop employees gonna know how to take great care of the card conditions? Are they going to clean them for you? Send them in packages the right way according to PSA parameters? Is a minimum wage to $10 per hour employee going to not get one persons sub mixed up with someone else’s with great care? Lots to worry about vs sending it in through a pro card shop or on your own
GameStop employees are not allowed to touch the cards. They must be ready to submit to PSA as required. They have all supplies if you haven't sleeved them, but you must put cards in sleeves. All they do is take a picture, make an invoice to send to PSA, package them for submission. I put in two cards to have graded.
Gma respectable and treats customers right without making people overpay while looking nice and getting your graded cards back in a reasonable time.!!!
Yep, can't wait for people to wake up about this whole "declared value"/"insurance" scam for grading. The card should be graded on the actual condition of the card and not HOW MUCH YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR THE GRADE. The difference between most 9's and 10's is the extra $50 to $5K+ per card price. And if you send in the extra money all of a sudden you easily get a 9, pocketing the extra $. Scam ridden company. Invites a class action lawsuit!!!!
Dr Beckett should buy back pennies on the dollar right now is that stock is low and plus he was a legend Beckett was the man dude before all his PSA stuff that's what we all relied on I got my book every month from my first book was back in 1988 I was 8 years old...
I love Beckett and there slabs. They are the only company other than PSA that holdS high value modern cards in slabs. They will come back and this just might help ( hopefully )
This information has no barring on Beckett as a company what so ever. It’s like say that you are guilty of a crime also just because you and your father carry the same name.
I would kill to have it go through USPS instead of FedEx with an option for no insurance to make it cheaper, as well and to not have to be home for signing for it and they can put it in the bigger postage locker at apartment complex or hold at my local posts office, way easier and more convenient. Don’t like spending $40-$80 for insured shipping when the grading prices are somehow STILL too high. They need a $5-$12 level at this point finally for set grading/PC grading
Back in the day, of course 80’s and 90’s before grading Beckett was king and early 2000’s Beckett and PSA were the main Grading and a Beckett 9.5 was more valuable than a PSA 10
Not declaring a value with PSA is a double edged sword to me. For example, I have a 10 card submission and each is valued at $500 instead of $50, do I get to declare $5K in claims if they get lost or damaged coming back to me? Conversely, the odds of that happening are pretty slim, so now I am paying 10X in insurance value to get it shipped back to me? Also, if you declare max value to PSA, would it screw up insurance if you declared less shipping it to PSA?
SCI, Cards HQ, Beckett..? Talk about building assets and brand Geoff! 😳 I’d say it would be a really good move if the cards look right. No pun intended
They had the NBA Phoenix blasters for.$23 at gamestop and have more cards then any Wal-Mart or target in my area Tacoma WA sucks for cards now I used to have a LCS like 2 miles from me went to it from age 5 till they closed down (in the mall where they moved) 25 ...now we have absolutely nothing anymore 1 shop around me and they hustled me as a youngin not a fan ...
Not doing Gamestop, I havent even sent a card in for grading anywhere yet, just too much and other things i dont like about it. I will buy graded cards , 9 or 10s but not enough trust to send my beloved Brady cards in.
9.5 was labeled GEM MINT and compared w PSA 10 for years. If they go to 10 point scale, every 9.5 needs to become a 10. If they did a 9.5 MINT+ initially, that would be different. That’s not the way it was!!!
The big investors that swooped in during covid encouraging people to spend their stimulus checks on cards as investments and began pushing PSA at the time. Everything was PSA with them at the time, when BGS was the bigger company and higher values. PSA is the biggest joke in grading value, their second highest grade PSA 9 has the same or less value as a Raw card. That seems pretty sad for the "biggest" grading service, idiots keep wasting money grading with them when they'd be better off selling their card raw.

Another example of why you keep your legacy over getting money. Mr.Beckett had his name as the brand name and he should've kept that company as his legacy. It's what he's going to be remembered for.
The $15 extra charge is a lot when the charge is already $30 and it only cost them $5 to ship it back so it’s now 9x the amount it should be I only do 10-20 card submissions so I now start paying $22-23 submitting my self and paying $150 a year where now that forced us to use services like GameStop or other places that can do it for $20 a card flat fee there should be a benefit for me submitting my own.
I would never buy beckett grading cause the way they do there subgrades. Makes no sense to me how a card has 4 things wrong with it and still gets a 9.
I am pretty sure the insurance goes up with the amount of cards you submit. So submitting more cards doesn’t exactly change the amount per card for insurance on shipping back. Again one more step to only grading cards for pc or only grading cards of value of $100+ at minimum. Otherwise may not be worth it. Not opposed but can cause some people grading lower end cards to avoid this.
