    I wouldn't be too quick to call them aggressive. Move slower to avoid crushing them and stop banging the frames on the hive. They feel that and it riles them up to defend it. I've found that working the bottom box first and then inspecting upwards works well. The smoker drives them down and by the time you hit that bottom box, there's a LOT of pissed bees in there.

    They don't seem aggressive, just out of room. Give them more room and they will probably calm down. I wouldn't be rushing to re-queen them at all.

    They might not be an overly aggressive hive, just cramped. Throw some extra supers on and give them a few weeks then reassess. I always get a kick out of your videos, keep it up!

    I hope the next time you check on the bees they are calm. I have had the happen to me on two occasions. One time they are really ticked and are stinging you through the glove and suit. The next month they are calm.
    Your queen seems to be a strong layer and the bees were bringing in honey. Another upside was, they were not trying to sting you.

  • @crispernator

    Hi BBM i did an inspection on my hive last friday and had similar situation bees flying everywhere i found the honey super was worse that the brood super i havent seen the queen as such but plenty of brood and larvea after the insection the next day found a pile of dead bees around 20 or so in front of the hive , i dont know if i should re queen or what .

    Damn Mark that hessian leaves a lot of debris in the smoker? Or have you been adding other stuff in there besides hessian? Where is the best place to source the hessian in your experience? Mark, 17:01 if you were going to crush extract the honey, Why did you not clean that lid up with all the honey in there as well?? Cheers for the video happy 2021!

  • @wayneparker9782
    @wayneparker9782 3 роки тому +1

    Im not sure its the bees temperament but the amount of bees in the box....you could split the hive...with the number of bees in that box you could split it three times.....with that amount of bees in the box you will have a a larger number of bees in and about....as you stated they where not stinging so there not aggressive just to meny
    Bees....give it a try..you have nothing to lose split the hives...iv had hives with the same problem splitting solved the problem....but...not all bees are created equal and requeening would help but you should split that hive and requeen both

  • @flashcardguy169
    @flashcardguy169 3 роки тому

    Trust me, you don't want to use bad tempered bees to raise queens, its going to be a nightmare dealing with the queen cells while being stung to bits, and trying to be delicate as possible...
    use a gentle hive as cell starter, as you will be into the brood every so often...

    Hey mate you wanted to be a beekeeper, bees get pissy and sting, get on with it, perhaps this attribute could be an asset in warding off hive invasions etc, or perhaps all mine are the same as your agro lot lol The one thing about beekeeping is that you never stop learning.

  • @happycamper4329
    @happycamper4329 3 роки тому

    Geez you are rough as guts handling those bees. No wonder they are never too happy with you. Maybe go a bit gentler with them. They might be happier to see you then.
