    I was able to buy this monitor when it was discounted for 729$ plus i had a 175$ gift card with amazon so the monitor before tax cost me only 554$. I knew this was going to have the old gen 1 screen. The text fringe doesnt bother me at all as im the distance to where its barely noticeable. Plus with the 3 year warranty this was a no brainier for me. The X version coming out while has a 2nd/3rd gen did not give me a reason to wait cause its not enough of a difference to justify it more likely costing 200-300$ more if going by speculations. 2/3 gen will still hit true black 400 or peak 1000 like 1st gen so i think this is the best for the price.

    Great review! I just picked up a black friday deal on this from Amazon for $575. It seems all of the competitors using this panel are in the ~$650 range right now so it was a tough choice. The Odyssey G8 was a no-go for me with its compatibility issues using HDR with AMD gpus. The alienware has a fan, which I absolutely hate, that is also supposedly pretty whiny as it ages. So this was the best option- thanks for the review, there really aren't many for this monitor so I'm glad this was a thorough one!

    I know a lot of people won’t be running at 60hz but for console gamers it’s a different story. It’s interesting how this model and the 27 inch have such high input lag at 60hz. While the 32” has very little.

      I think the LG 39GS95QE is the only one I know so far at this 39" size, and is not yet landed in EU. Also not perfect, since it's WOLED (worse than QD-LED in my opinion) and still 3440x1440 (lower dpi than 34").
      I come from an IPS LG 38GN950-B and it was almost perfect (both size and res). I never thought that in 2024 it was not going to have an oled replacement without any sacrifices.

    • @StevoHDA
      @StevoHDA 8 місяців тому

      you'll want either 1440 or 2160 for flexibility when watching content.. then whatever size has a ppi low enough that you can tolerate. 1440 is by far better, oleds need high fps to mitigate sample and hold blur, you can't get that at 2160p ultrawide which is 10k pixel count

Because I noticed that some small MSI partners have already gotten it and have done their reviews on youtube
    I'm really looking forward to a review from you including. Tired of waiting for this model because 240 hz is really better than 175 hz. And I'm looking at MSI 271QRX periodically because I'm tired of sitting on my slow VA from xiaomi. Though I realize I'm too used to the 21:9 format and am unlikely to buy a standard 16:9. It's realy nice to see the arrivals of ultrawide 34" monitors with a refreshrate of 175hz plus wide gamut, which I don't have on my Acer Predator 32" and I find pretty disturbing. The refresh rate is high enough to not see any flickering anymore. I have however seen a review of a 540hz screen which is a serious step up in experience, described as looking through a window instead of looking at a monitor. At this refresh rate a human does not see any ghosting anymore. There is no real difference between 175hz, 240hz, 360hz. The magic seem to happen above 500hz. This monitor has still many disadvantages, having a 1080p 24" TN panel. But I guess/hope monitors like the MSI MAG 341CQP with 540hz refresh rate aren't that far away anymore.

      It’s an inherent challenge with OLED technology. But it really is very variable depending on your system, content, frame rates etc
      MSI have recently updated the firmware on their MPG271QRX and MPG321URX, including supposedly improving this but we’ve yet to test that. Worth reading around from owners to see how it’s helped. Asus also updated the firmware on their PG27AQDM so there def seems to be a focus from manufacturers on improving this area

    b) Use the monitor with 175Hz + 8bit (FRC) HDR over DP
    or maybe even
    c) Switch to an HDMI 2.1 cable
    I'd appreciate any advice. :) Thanks in advance.

      I suppose it really depends what frame rates you’re reaching in your games. If you’re getting over 144Hz, I’d go with the higher refresh rate as I don’t think you’d notice any real difference on the colour depth side of things. Or just use an HDMI 2.1 connection and get both if your graphics card supports it 😀

      @@tftcentral Framerate wise 144 is enough for me. 120 is enough for me, which is what I usually set my RTSS fps limit to. I've been running in 144hz mode for quite a while now to be honest.
      It's just that your test made me think about your graph with the input lag. Lowest with 175hz, rather terrible with 60hz and me somewhere in between.
      But I guess I was thinking wrong there. 175hz withouth the proper fps to back it up will not on it's own give me low input lag, or will it?

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  6 місяців тому +1

      @GODzillaGSPB yes it would actually. The lag is linked to the refresh rate you have the screen set to, regardless of your achieved frame rate or VRR situation. Perhaps try 175Hz and see if you notice any difference or not. We didn’t measure it at 144Hz but I suspect it’s a very minor difference if any

      @@tftcentral I'll give it a thought.
      I'm using the 144hz ceiling to lower fps for games that use Frame Generation. These can easily hit the 168 fps (which is the natural ceiling, imposed by Nvidia reflex I guess, when running 175hz), which usually also maxes out the graphic card, meaning high power consumption and heat.
      Setting the monitor to 144hz eases this down a notch. I'm living in a country where air conditioning is uncommon, so saving a bit in terms of heat and power consumption is a plus for me. ^^ Most games running with Frame Generation do not work well when I impose an artificial fps limit (via RTSS for instance), so the "natural" ceiling via monitor frequency is the only way.
      So, in short: This probably has more benefits for me than the slightly better input lag with 175hz I guess.
      PS: I did notice that you never actually answered my initial question about 8bit + FRC versus 10bit. So I'd like to ask again, do you have any experience with that? I saw no difference with the naked eye, so in general, apart from the very specific idea with the ceiling for FG, 175hz would be the way to go, even over DP. You see it differently? Thanks in advance.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  8 місяців тому

      The lag will correspond to the refresh rate set by the device and won’t be impacted in VRR situations when frame rate lowers

    • @juanblanco7898
      @juanblanco7898 8 місяців тому

      @@tftcentral Thank you so very much for answering! So it won't be the monitor's max refresh rate, of course, since consoles don't support that. Will it be set to the maximum refresh rate supported by both source device and the display, which would be 120 Hz in this case, with input latency being roughly equivalent to that at fixed 120 Hz? Did I get that right and is this how all VRR implementations operate? Or does HDMI VRR work differently compared to FreeSync/G-Sync? Or the displays refresh rate follows the source frame rate with input latency changing with it dynamically, so that if the source won't output in >60 FPS there would be no benefits with VRR enabled in terms of input latency?
      I'm sorry for bothering you with these questions, you don't have to bother really.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  8 місяців тому

      @juanblanco7898 the input lag will be tied to what is set as the selected refresh rate, as if you weren’t using VRR. So in your example for a console it would align to 120Hz. I don’t think I’ve ever seen VRR add any meaningful additional lag either

      I struggled to answer your question because a lot of subjective opinions go into defining what counts as a "better monitor".
      A competitive gamer might say the 240Hz refresh rate on the Asus is better, but the vast majority of humans will never be able to tell a difference. Also, the sort of competitive gamer who cares about that cares nothing about color or viewing angles or anything beyond refresh rates, so they would be looking for a 27" 400Hz monitor. None of them are shopping for 34" ultrawides.
      WOLED achieves higher brightness, so the Asus would be slightly better for HDR content, but that gets into an area similar to the coating you wanted to disregard.
      Ultimately, if you like and want the 800R curvature, then none of the QD-OLED monitors matter. None of them can ever be better for you.
