    My husband is Vietnamese and this is one of our favorite dishes...I am always looking for recipes I can duplicate at home for him. We live in San Diego and drive an hour north to Santa Ana (Viet food Mecca of Southern California...lol) when we want to buy extra to bring home. I just followed your recipe and made this today and it came out perfectly! As a side note, I added 2 tsp. of mushroom seasoning, fresh minced garlic (vs. pre-minced in jar) and used 3 egg yolks for topping...it was beautiful and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this easy, yummy, no-steamer-required version.

    Hi Kelly, the Caravelle brand is sold in the Asian grocery stores. You can also use the American brands: Reese (sold at Walmart), Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea, Crown Prince to name a few. If you can only find the lump crab meat, that's fine too. Just break up the chunks with a fork like you would tuna fish. Hope that helps!

    I'm making this dish today baking it in the oven. It came out beautiful and the egg yolks look great much better than steaming it. Baking is the way to go for this dish. Thank you!

    The temperature inside the meat only gets to at the highest, 160 degrees F. Which is WELL within the heat safety zone for olive oil. You don't want to push it past 200 degrees.

      @RunAwayRice  11 років тому

      Hi, mix the 2 egg yolks in a small bowl and then pour on top of the meatloaf. Use a brush or spoon to spread yolks evenly. After that, turn off oven and open the door just a few inches and allow to bake for another 5 minutes. If you close the oven door, the egg topping will turn white. Good luck!

      Ground turkey or chicken are really good substitutes. I use ground chicken for my friends and family who don't eat pork.

    I made this, but there is liquid coming out when I use a chopstick to test it's doneness. is that ok?

      If the liquid is clear and not pink, it’s done.
