I am much older. My resolving being gay with my faith was a journey. I was almost "Fr. Bob," but I lost interest in the church (I couldn't resolve the church's stance on being gay - it wasn't just being gay; it was also how the church treated women). I did the "pray away the gay" thing in my late teens and early 20s. I tried un-aliving myself once. I suffered from depression and hit rock bottom. In my late 20s, I gave up church until well into my 40s, but I always continued to pray, so my faith was still present. I never acted on my urges and never came out until I was 40, then I went a bit wild for a while. After the party circuit, I tried returning to church and attended different denominations off and on for 10 years or so. I have now found an affirming church and attend service regularly. I don't believe everything the church teaches, but I believe in God and the idea of the Trinity. I love who I am, and I believe God loves me for being me. I am far from perfect (no one is), but I have a relationship with my God while still living my authentic self. So at 60 plus years, I can say it's been a journey.
This podcast is a Godsend and an important part of my life now. I always say there is no place I fit in-I’m too Gay for the Church and too churchy for the Gay community. Here, I feel I truly fit in❣️ I really feel I am not alone for the first time ever! THANK YOU, Nate and Susie!
❤If God be for us, who can be against us? Having people attack us, we have to rely on our relationship with God and rest in His acceptance. I know that is more difficult but the joy of the Lord is our strength. I am a Christian who happens to also be Gay.
I love this podcast. You two have really created something special. Nates and Cades' stories really resonated with me, being similar to my own. While I no longer believe, I still find this podcast heartwarming and funny. I can't wait to see what's next.

I can so deeply relate to so very much of what you, Nate, have expressed in this particular episode. And I, too, am a fan of C.S. Lewis and appreciate the quote of his that you have tattooed on your arm. Thank you, to both of you, for your hard work at presenting your selves in such authentic and vulnerable ways, and for bringing on the variety of guests who have shared their life’s journeys. Great season. Just found the channel a few days ago. Binge watched about every episode lol. 33 year old gay man here. I did try to be straight for a bit but failed miserably. Came out at 22. Life has been so much better since. Most of my family and friends accepted things. I do come from a Christian household so my dad to this day doesn't accept it. We just act like I'm not gay and when I'm dating act like I'm single. He gave me a book called 'you don't have to be gay'. I didn't read it but he did. Anyway just wanted to share a little of my story. Keep doing an amazing job and excited for next season.
Definitely agree with not being perfect and desiring connection. I've found attachment theory helpful in understanding my own tendencies and how others connect as well. Moving toward being secure and interdependent are the goals.
