Literally watching this on a stormy night in 2023, Howard saying this…And Good Lord Howard…WE are still here with you…As me and my grandchildren are…Keep making incredible music (cause I AM!)… 🥰
Fascinating Breakdown of the recording of Howard's album. Howard is a rare musical gem as he combines great musical versatility with a fine intellect and a highly sensitive nature. Always enjoy listening to Howard's music and the way he comes across in his interviews. He will always be to me someone whose musical opinions are highly valid and especially to be noted is his combination of good common sense and quality of soul. His music resonates with beautiful spiritual vibes.
Great interview. I was fortunate to see HoJo in 1983 when he was a one-man show (two man if you count the mime). Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
Happy 52nd birthday in a few days. I am 52 and remember New Song from the time ( did not know the release date!) and his music had a major impact on me from the outset. I think 1984 was the best year of the decade for music and thrilled to the sound of What Is Love? early in the year. The Humans Lib album was and remains amazing, with no filler. Equality and Natural are two of my favourite tracks, which could have been successful singles, perhaps with a radio friendly remix. His lyrics had a huge impact on my thinking and political awareness even though they are not overtly political. It's his humanism that shines through. I can still remember seeing Howard perform Like To Get To Know You Well on TOTP at Bristol Temple Meads Station as he walked through the crowd. There is a great version of it in different languages, which adds to the message. I bought Dream Into Action in 1985 on its release and it too is also a fantastic album. I am not vegan but he was decades ahead of the curve in highlighting the moral issues around animal welfare in some of the lyrics on the album. No-one Is To Blame with Phil Collin's distinctive drumming is a gorgeous song. His Live Aid performance of Hide and Seek in July '85 is one of the most moving performances on that memorable day. Me and my wife say him live a few years ago as part of a bill with other eighties artists and he was very good. Sorry for a long post but it's always good to read that his music has had such a positive effect on someone else.
@@eightiesmusic1984 I was a member of his fan club back in the day…we used to get 2 singles per year (which I still have) and other stuff. Still love all his music, it has got me through some rough times with my health and still does to this day. I’ve only ever managed to see him live once which was at an 80s butlins weekend. Would love to see him live again but the ugly health issues are a bit of a stumbling block but at least I can access all his music ❤️ Thank you for the birthday wishes ❤️
@@zoefree3950 I think I received the fan club letter which if I recall correctly was ran by his mother. I remember a lyric sheet for Humans Lib being posted on one occasion ( I think). It is good that you got to see him live. I think he is an inspirational figure. I wrote to him a few years ago to say thanks and he sent a nice reply.
an artist who remains a star almost forty years later. My favorite 😍 he said to me that I am his ''only one french fan'' 😆 I don't think so 😁 HoJo, just fan 👏👍
One to One was the first thing I bought with my first wage. I did play it a lot, and bought all the relevant singles. I thought he did it better than any other musician. The Balance of Love should have been a single in my opinion.
Howard Jones is one of my all time favourites. He looks a bit like Stan Laurel (when he wasn't doing comedy). I played his "Hide and seek" in school when I was a kid (TR-707 and a Juno 106). I am also making a cover of it now (just have to put some vocals on).
Today producers don't let musicians decide on their production or evolve, because record companies want very much their formula to commercial success being followed. HJ being able to have a strong voice on production shows the level of independence musicians had, allowing a myriad of totally different sounding records during the 80s. Nowadays it's the "equalization" of songs. Maybe I am wrong, but it's a least my impression.

This is a very good insightful and open Interview, I think Howard Jones deserved good quality producers.. we .might have ended up with pure cheese if Howard didn't stay on his own narrative.

Dream into action is an album of my childhood and it is still fabulous to listen and try and sing along to, pure brilliance. Nice one Howard

YES! I agree that "Balance of Love" should have been a single. I love the back and forth with the backup singer... very funky and had hit potential!!
What a quality quality man Howard Jones is. Roll on March St Andrews Hall Mi for the 3rd time !

Scritti 'Boom' is an incredible record…
It is "the best thing ever".
Legend.
Yeah a Scritti Politti fan !🙂👍🏼
Nobody is perfect
I loved his first two albums but I couldn't get in to his one to one .I still think he's so under rated but he's still remains humble to this day
My first album that my mother bought for me was dream into action by Howard Jones in 1985

Why are we still waiting for any further apology?1
Scritti Politti.. The Word Girl
Arif………Regardless of commercial potential………And 40+ years later, we DON'T care…Cause WE are still here who are there in the original……Rx
Seriously… there is zero reason that I'd come up against Howard…Yet Mine…
If there is any further necessary that 'we' are necessary……Who'd thought it?!?!…Clearly no-one gives an F!!!…
Admit it. You were actually searching for Killswitch Engaged...
