Next time they come to Australia I’m going , don’t care how much it costs, I’m 500 kilometres from a major city and I will hitchhike to see them. I never seen them live,
Its amazing that so many bands continue on after their light has dimmed, while fans grow bored and often cringe, wishing theywould just stop, but PSBs have just grown and matured in such an intelligent and graceful way.
As he says (at the end) "all you need is a laptop" etc to make music nowadays to recreate that "Korg" sound ❤ and remaster Music 'Digitally' just shows how things have moved on making Music.
What Gavin Esler is saying is right, that Neil Tennant does seem to really enjoy coming on programmes like Hard Talk and debating but I think it's the opportunity to make himself heard and to put his own views across because he's clearly someone who is very intelligent and well educated. I know that Neil is big supporter of the UK Labour Party, like Hugh Grant, Ross Kemp and Eddie Izzard.
I think that there's parallels to be had about Neil and Chris' idea of what touring and playing live should entail and the late great Freddie Mercury who always saw himself as a performer in that they want to make their live performances really something special.
Great interview. He is just as intelligent, well-spoken, and unpretentious as I had imagined. Pet Shop Boys' most recent albums have mostly chucked the melancholic songs in favor of "bangers" but this is a band that has done so many of those types of songs already and they all get the multiple remix treatment. That whole synth-heavy sound with a 4/4 beat is starting to sound a wee bit dated, even to people like me who loved it and danced to it at the clubs. I happen to quite like their moodier songs like "Luna Park" and "King's Cross" and "Being Boring". It's okay to let the disco ball stop spinning for awhile. Every song need not be "It's a Sin " or "New York City Boy". The track "Invisible" from their Elysium album is as poignant a commentary on aging as any I have ever heard and the arrangement is sublime.
Yeah, I actually considered going to see them in Chicago as part of their Unity tour with New Order, but then I quickly found out that the average ticket price was $400 for the cheap seats, and as high as $2500 for decent seats. I just as quickly changed my mind. I'm a huge fan of both bands, but those prices are crazy.
Have watched them live twice. They are incredible musical geniuses and always having something new to offer. They have been around forever since the 80s and still going strong. New album is coming from what I read!!
Loved the Pet Shop Boys from the 80s. Their music has always been such quality and vastly underrated. Neil is so intelligent and comes across so well. Great interview.
I agree regarding the gay labeling, it's not so cut and dry. I am a "gay" man, but often find myself explaining away the actual label. I am just a man who happens to be attracted to other men, primarily. I am just me. ☮️❤️✌️
I mean... He seems clever... Outside his music... And we not singing philosophy... He knows his kitchen... Without onions. Even... I just go back to listening interview... Thx
Great Various Interview within 25 minutes. Hard Talk always seems longer though! Proper stuff/ vid' Respected.👍. Not thought' West End Girls as Hip-Hop! Props story why too)
Neil keeps it nice and highbrow: eg - 'From Lake Geneva..' (the journey of Vladimir Lenin in the sealed train to Finland), & 'What have I done to deserve this?' (thought to be a ref. to Christopher Isherwood's 'Mr Norris Changes Trains' - a book set in Weimar Germany). Great pop music too!
Loved this interview, but West End Girls was not the first rap song in America. That's preposterous. What Neil means is the first #1 on the pop charts back when #1s were sold and engineered by drunk, druggy record company executives. It was a wild time. I say this as a PSB Superfan. Blondie and Debbie Harry did rap 5 years before WEG. In the long run, who cares?
14:26 - so scared look speaking about Moscow banning gay prides)) But I liked his thoughts flow.. 14:32 Iran hang two gay boys.. 14:57 - about Putin and homofobia
The song “I’m with Stupid”, after all... Blair and Bush were not that bad politicians when you compare to Trump. I think PSB should make a song about Trump.
Journalist, artist, songwriter, singer, musician, gentleman (no matter the orientation), legend! 🙌🏼
Nicely said. 👍
Always a joy to listen to. Neil is a very honest man with no lies or bullshit.
Too aloof doesn't care about the fans
@joseph9074 should he?
Fascinating and intelligent conversation.
I could listen to him all day, such an intelligent man
So sorry, if I made a negative comment to U..I'm so use to nut jobs ..God bless !!
Neil is the best He and Chris are musicical genuses
Legend and handsome man. In 1991 Pet shop boys play live show in Prague. I was there.
Still touring 15 years on
What a charming man. Great interview.

exactly!
It sounds like that lol
Neil is the definition of a wise man.

Neil Tennant es encantador ❤
Love Neil, he’s such a clever guy -being an ex-journalist he knows the business so well..
I think that there's parallels to be had about Neil and Chris' idea of what touring and playing live should entail and the late great Freddie Mercury who always saw himself as a performer in that they want to make their live performances really something special.
loved them since the 80's :) the English accent is why we love them, never change! 😍
Heart of an artist, mind of a journalist.
Good interview. He took it one step deeper than the run of the mill interview
Neil always goes deep into subjects and very honest with his answers brilliant mind great to listen too
Love the Pet Shop Boys. I've just discovered these guys; they are brilliant.
Congratulations! You've just begun a fantastic journey through a beautiful world. :)
There's 80s tunes not been touched by any bands since music started and the world will end with these guy's the best ever musicians EVER
I just discovered them thorough as a B-side that was remixed by Moby.
the phoenix 315 That’s a great mix
you just discovered ? how did that go?

Yeah, well said/typed.👍 He's down to earth and as for Pet Shop Boys music in general do much prefer their 80's Music.❤
Steven Kerry, absolutely agree about their melancholic stuff, and Invisible could be the best thing they've ever done....absolutely gorgeous song!

I saw them in Austin TX in 2016, tickets were like $150. Awesome concert.
Have watched them live twice. They are incredible musical geniuses and always having something new to offer. They have been around forever since the 80s and still going strong. New album is coming from what I read!!

Typically brilliant Gavin Esler. 👏👏
Loved Neil in the 80s; Love him, STILL!
Neil is lovely
Perfect accent 😍😍 his so cool
it's time to rethink ageism in the music industry, as good talent shouldn’t be pushed aside for young talent…
Pet Shop Boys are fantastic, their music is awesome, so many hits they have, its timeless
And to think I was going to watch only for a couple of minutes.
I like Hard Talk but it's Hard...So Hard
Love from Paris ( France)
Brilliant 👍
PSB best band ever
That gig in Rio, where Neil dressed as the pope was legendary
Neil is still so cute.
Thanks for sharing, that's interesting.
I had no idea about hard talk extra,I love hard talk! But somehow I missed it on BBC!Thanks for sharing!❤️
I agree regarding the gay labeling, it's not so cut and dry. I am a "gay" man, but often find myself explaining away the actual label. I am just a man who happens to be attracted to other men, primarily. I am just me. ☮️❤️✌️
Clever man
Sure
Great interview!
Very lucid and open interview
There is a dark side to these that I always picked up on
I mean... He seems clever... Outside his music... And we not singing philosophy... He knows his kitchen... Without onions. Even... I just go back to listening interview... Thx
Very insightful 🎉
Pet shop boys were always on my mind hehe
Madness were the first group to use back projection films to accompany songs on their 1983 tour.
throbbing gristle in mid 70s
"Are you hard?"
"Yes..."
"Let's talk about it."
Great Various Interview within 25 minutes. Hard Talk always seems longer though! Proper stuff/ vid' Respected.👍. Not thought' West End Girls as Hip-Hop! Props story why too)

Fantastic
The presenter looks like the TV news reporter in Little Britain who was interviewing Tony Head, anyone?
The first nortth star.
Neil Tennant looks like Prince Andrew.
omg, now I can't un-see it!
O hell! what is seen can't be unseen... 😣
Poor Neil!
Noo..poor Neil !😳
I meant... Because onions can make you cry... Other, wise they do have onions..
I get terrible feeling to kiss Neil when I watch the se
I think I just heard an album title in this interview--- Pet Shop Boys Coalition--
Neil is a music nerd
Loved this interview, but West End Girls was not the first rap song in America. That's preposterous. :)
Not much "hard talk" here. Softball questions. Would have liked some questions related to his Christian upbringing and his feelings about his church.
And there is more onions. So i go shut.
14:26 - so scared look speaking about Moscow banning gay prides)) But I liked his thoughts flow.. 14:32 Iran hang two gay boys.. 14:57 - about Putin and homofobia
The best were no1 and The Nightlife. All other shows went terribly pop, yet commercially great.
The song “I’m with Stupid”, after all... Blair and Bush were not that bad politicians when you compare to Trump. I think PSB should make a song about Trump.
They have. "Give Stupidity a Chance" it's on the 2019 EP "Agenda"
@@USAPethead Thanks

OMG What ridiculous interview. Loved them (PSB) when they were global popstars. Nowdays they are only lgbt activists. Sad...
And your just a pedestrian fool with no brain or imagination!
