    Came out looking pretty sharp. Would have loved to see that fancy pick guard on it.

    I'm watching this video 2 years later hopefully by now you know the wire under the bridge is a grounding wire good thing you didn't remove it my thought is usually if I don't know what it is leave it alone until I find out nice looking bass looks like you painted the knobs as well

    the wire under the bridge is a ground which keeps the guitar from buzzing (electrical thru your amp) when you are not touching the strings. I just learned this when I was doing a similar blackout mod to my metallic orange ibanez gsr 205 bass - ditched all the chrome hardware for gloss black and blacked out the rosewood fretboard with ebony stain :) Good job bro

    That bass looks and sounds sick! Great work and playing too! I'm starting my first rebuild/paint job this week. Wish me luck.
    By the way, in case you haven't already heard, that wire you found under the bridge @1:13 is for grounding.

    I bought this same bass with the intention of modding it. I plan on boring holes into the body and adding pennies to give it some weight. I've created a FrankenGlarry decal for the head stock. The only part I'm not changing is the bridge.

    Firstly: Outstanding bass playing!! Secondly: You did a very nice job on your first upgrade job. Your bass sounds fantastic! I've been modding guitars for years and when I heard about the Glarry, I immediately ordered one. I hate fat necks, so the first thing I did was to file and sand the neck to give it a significantly slimmer profile. Since I disliked the finish on the back of the Glarry, I applied Tung Oil using 3000 grit sandpaper for a much nicer feel. The tuners and bridge were of decent quality, but I replaced the bridge with a slightly heavier one. I bought GFS overwound pickups and a GFS wiring harness (both use GFS's Kwik-Plug system for a solderless connection..) I also replaced the plastic nut with bone. The final product played and sounded a lot better.

    I know this is an old video. you didnt need the shielding here. Active pickup plus split coil is noiseless.

    I'm having issues with the strings sounding dead as you go up the neck and I can't get the intonation right to save my life. I adjusted the truss rod making it straighter, lowered the action a bit, bridge fine tuners don't do anything no matter which way I adjust them. These were awesome uploads. Any advice on intonation? :)

    I got a glarry this Xmas, and I'm going to mod it as well.
    Good timing on this vid. Definitely will look into the wiring harness, and thanks for the heads up on the string tree. I'm building mine to be a old school type bass for blues, country, etc....and was thinking of using flats. That's not going to work if I have the same tree problem. Might have to use chromes of something with less tension.
    Yours ended up looking great man....good job. 👍

    • @PropS570
      @PropS570  3 роки тому +1

      The string tree only became an issue after I removed the old one and put the new one on. Prior to that it was holding up great. I just used a slightly longer screw to hold the new string tree place and it’s still sitting snug a couple months later. I even had flats on it briefly before I modded the bass but unfortunately I don’t have any footage. Flats compliment the stock pickup really well. I appreciate your comment and I hope everything turns out great on your project.

      Yeah I've been playing a long time, but this is my first real build. I'm going to strip it and try to honeyburst it, hardware, elec......etc. lol. It'll be a fun project .

    Dude this was sick! Great insight and playing! Thanks for the help. Getting mine soon and putting Dimarzio Model P pups with an cts/orange drop harness, some fender mim tuners, and a hipshot bridge. Should be a good time!

    I really enjoyed both parts.GREAT JOB.
    I always say use those cheap copys for a platform to start the Modding journey.
    It's cheaper than the parts.
    My one thing I tell everyone is stay away from basswood if you can it's to soft.If you can't do that toothpicks and wood glue in every hole. Cheers 🍻

    I recently purchased a used Ibanez Gio bass from GC for $100. Upgraded all the chrome hardware to black hardware. I found a cheap replica of the "Badass Bass Bridge" on Amazon for only $25. Wilkinson open gear tuners for $36 also on Amazon. Hopefully the tuners are good they'll be here tomorrow. Stock pickups sound good so I'm leaving those in. Was going to remove the paint and stain it black. But got an awesome idea to do an all black and white horror theme stickers bomb on the body and headstock. It looks sick af! I took a razor and traced the contours of the body. Turned out way better than I anticipated. If I decide to keep it like that I'll go over it with a decent layer of epoxy. It basically looks like a huge horror themed pickguard on the body. I hope your bass turned out good for you in the long run. Have a great day.

    Bridge ground needed for passive basses to help limit noise.. If the emgs are active I would tell you to pull the bridge ground or you can run into a condition where you get shocked. Also with p basses usually there is limited hiss or hum that's usually a j bass issues (non noise canceling single coils) sounds good though buddy. Also try striking through the string when slapping. Shielding needs to be tied into your ground circuit in order for it to work properly and the reason why copper is used is for its conductivity tin foil isn't as conductive making it harder.

  • @BobMelnik
    @BobMelnik 3 роки тому +2

    No need to shield precision bass pickups as they are split coil (hum cancelling) type. That's why you did not notice any difference. Reinforce slipping (stripped) screws with flat tooth pics and wood glue. The bass is basswood and very soft (easy to strip).

      Basswood huh? Thanks for that info, I picked one up just like that for laughs about a year and a half ago, and I was wondering what the wood was… after playing it, I would swear that it’s nothing more than “plywood”, all the way around, but if you say so.

      @@PropS570 When you begin playing bass, you don't buy one of the two basses everybody dream of. A Fender Precision or a Rickenbacker 4001-4003 unless you are rich. You buy a cheap one to see if you can play and if you will like it and continue.
      After you go to the Fender and the Rick and other fancy ones.
