    Nice to hear they more or less got by. I doubt it's all over, though. She sounds nuts and is bound to cause trouble for them in whatever way she can, even if it costs her her job.
    Still, they got through most of that unscathed, which is more than a lot of people in these situations can say.
    Creeping through your boyfriend's notes... it's bad enough she was in a relationship with someone she had power over, did she really have to go over the edge? Some people really can't control themselves.

      Yup, it's based on their oath and beliefs not reality. Vengeance is the easy one to twist but one could also do the same for the other oaths. Like the person you thought you were protecting as a Crown or Devotion paladin wasn't who they seemed or you misunderstood a situation and put them on a pedestal. You could be an oath of Ancients against a group of "invaders" who were framed. Etc.

    I DMd for my boss, her husband and their kids, and never had any issues. The first powerful magic item that was handed out was given to one of the kids, both the kids & my boss had awesome boss kills and had their asses kicked in kind. In fact if it wasn’t for a clutch healing word from the cleric (my boss’s stepson) her character probably would have died, but she understood that was a possibility, I laid all this out before anyone rolled any dice.

    Let me stop you right there at 4:20. Pattern recognition is obviously not common sense anymore.
    But Tiefling+Warlock (and honestly Sorcerer too) have a reputation for being a red flag for a reason. You absolutely didn't have to tell me that the troubling player was the one playing Tie+War.
    It's a red flag and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
    Also, she didn't "feel the need to save the day" when her Paladin bf told her he missed out on something because of snuggle RP. You're severely underestimating her intelligence, surely she wouldn't be promoted just out of the blue, so that proves she's at least somewhat meticulous and planning person. No, it wasn't a "spur of a moment" decision, oh you felt bad, I feel bad for making scene that made you feel bad, let me do a quick fix. What she was doing effectively was trying to reward at table RP, by him not suffering consequences of it, and later down the story proved she'd go further. And Paladin isn't innocent for it either, he probably even initiated the snuggle, at least passively. Men often throw hooks around at all times, it's women that deny them, so all it's needed from her is not saying no and 99% of men are down for it. At least before they're burned first time in life.
    Just keep it simple, don't play with players who exclusively play tieflings, absolutely don't if they're warlocks too, don't play with bosses, ever, and finally, just don't play with women. If you want to add a woman to your campaign, it better be your spouse only, she better play something traditional which women gravitate towards, such as healers and you being damn good DM to alleviate the negative. I've had a dozen experiences with X player bringing their gf to the table and it being enjoyable time for anyone down the line. I'm yet to find a woman that actually reads player's manual or even cares too much about game mechanics, I'm sure they exist somewhere out there, but I'm yet to meet them. All women I've met at the table treat it as Monopoly+, it's just a social game and we spend time together, with added some RP flare, which means sooner or later they do what they do IRL too, bring drama into it. Heck, even my wife treats it like that, as just a bit more than a social gathering with dice being thrown.
    You could easily and logically explain to me that if I were to remove my wife from my campaign I run, that it would be 10-15% better experience for my players, and Imma tell you honestly "Suck it up, I'm a good DM, I'll make up that deficit, even overshoot it by 40% compared to anyone else you got available for DMing. So learn to DM, get good at it, and I'll suffer your spouse in your campaign if rest of it is good enough. Until then zip it and don't bring your girlfriends to my table.".

    • @batscove
      @batscove 14 днів тому

      wth, just because you have never had a woman that fits your table play dnd with you doesn't mean you should never play with women. That's a horrible generalization. And whats that about tieflings?

    • @MrMrtvozornik
      @MrMrtvozornik 14 днів тому

      @@batscove My brother in Christ, read better, cause I said, and I quote:
      "I'm yet to find a woman that actually reads player's manual or even cares too much about game mechanics, I'm sure they exist somewhere out there, but I'm yet to meet them."
      You just sound like someone who'd jump on ANY generalization as unfair, but that's not how world works. Generalizations are core parts of human condition, simply due to time and resource constrains. You want example of opposite, more "left leaning" generalization of mine? Back when I played League and was teen, I avoided people with initials of their country like plague, because 9 times out of 10 they were basic tribalists. Doesn't matter if it was RU, HU, GR, GB, FR or literally anything. I've met enough of them to formulate a pattern, if you boldly put your country's initials in your gamer tag, you're probably basic and boring person. I was there to play League and I will construct my opinion of you as a player based on your performances, not your origins. Which is something, most people who do put such initials do not reciprocate.
      And obviously, you could say "Well, that's a generalization, surely there are nice and interesting people who did that too." And to that I say YES! Surely they are out there somewhere, but if 9 out of 10 people I meet aren't, my generalization is still justified.
      Like, you do realize that EVERY stereotype about ANY group of people has a shred of truth to it, right? Sometimes it's 20% true, sometimes it's 90% true, but there's absolutely no stereotype that's 0% true.
      In terms of my sample size, I've had enough, 2 women outside of being anyone's girlfriend and 3 (4 including mine) being brought to the table as a +1. None of them are exact same person, some meshed better, some were downright train wrecks. As I quoted myself on the start, I'm sure they exist somewhere, but 5-6 sample size IS PLENTY for your average life. If you back it up with deeper understanding of psychology and understand why it happened, honestly even 3 instances are enough. People are busy, they have chores, duties, jobs etc. You cannot realistically expect them not to take broad shortcuts and "give everyone a chance", that's not how real life works. Theory is one thing, practice is another, many moralisms and systems work in theory only, when you disregard practical application.
      Would I be open to an exception? Sure. Be someone who's opinion I respect, someone with integrity within my life, then pass a DC20 Persuade check to convince me. It's not impossible, just very unlikely. And it's not for women either, I already got party that's plenty big, I have one friend who (with my permission) invited 3 other of his friends to my table over course of 2 years, each time resulting in subpar experience. So now, I won't accept any more of his friends as potential players at my table. And when dust settles, I was always in life proven right, a year later and with a couple of beers, with some prodding from my side and I get to the bottom, of human simplicity and self service. It's always "Well, she was really excited about it and wanted us to do something together, she didn't really care about game aspects" or "Well, I really wanted one of my childhood friends at the table so I can have better chemistry, since I know them since diapers while I only know your group for 2 years" etc.
      The core issues always prove to be utterly banal and simple, and my answer is always the same, this is MY table, I've built my group, if your goal is to have fun with your GF and your childhood friends, by all means, become a DM, I'll even help you out. But it's rarely what they desire, because being DM is hard work, first they try piggy backing onto me. Simply put, I got a tight group, I've had plenty of bad experiences with girlfriends coming to it, and I've been weak enough to let it happen again and again, despite really knowing it was bad idea since the 3rd instance. I've already got plenty of players I've been DMing for years, even convincing me to join the group is hard DC check, but it's rolled with disadvantage if you are trying to sneak someone's girlfriend too. Not impossible, just very, very hard.
      P.S. If you think we're all not making CONSTANT generalizations throughout life because of time constrains, you're going to have rude awakening in your adult life. I've had plenty of weird haircuts and alternative styles back in the day, and I've had lost job opportunities because of that. To blame employers for seeing a weird haircut and painted nails is naive and childish. I've put myself into group that's not known for hard work and dedication, and I've reaped the rewards of it, both positive discrimination in social gatherings of certain groups and negative discrimination of more normie people. Other people DO NOT owe you "time to get to know you" so you can show them you're outlier from the group, they have their own lives to think about. You're free to live in that delusion till about roughly 25, after that all value is purely "performance based" and not "potential based", and if you aren't ready mentally, that disillusioning process can hit you like a wall of bricks.

      @@batscove I will leave 3 distinct comments, because YT and its trickiness. This one being one of them, simply informing there's 3 of them. One on the further subject of "generalization" and another one on tieflings specifically.

    • @MrMrtvozornik
      @MrMrtvozornik 14 днів тому

      @@batscove On the subject of tieflings:
      If you don't know stereotypes about tieflings, some brought from lore but most brought by their players, you're living under a rock.
      Simple google about "stereotype about tieflings players" will get you couple of reddit treads on the subject, so you cannot feign ignorance.
      But I'll simplify that for you. In general, Tieflings in Faerun are mix between LGBT and Gypsy stereotypes from real world. They're largely distrusted on basis of their heritage and time and time again they prove that such distrust is warranted.
      But most importantly, LGBT coded stuff. You can read plenty of anecdotes to the point it's not even anecdotal anymore, there's something about horned suave characters that are being discriminated against, that draws queer people into it. They vibe with it as the kids would say. Overly sexualized tiefling warlock is not a stereotype for no reason. This is not really a surprise at all to be honest, plenty of people have been drawn to tieflings just to later come out, or people entrenched into that identity to exclusively play tieflings.
      Now you say, why would queer people gravitate towards tieflings?
      I cannot offer a complete thesis but there are some correlation between how they feel IRL and tieflings in general.
      First of all, unfair distrust by common people, or at least THEY FEEL it's unfair. So they identify with that.
      Secondly, over sexualization. You can say all you want about "it being natural" bla bla bla, plenty of studies from both conservative and liberal sources pretty much prove that average queer person thinks way more about S stuff than your average Joe. It's on their minds more and they have it more. I'm not well versed in female-female stuff, but it's not unusual for male-male people to have upwards of 10-15 more S stuff frequency than their hetero counterparts.
      Thirdly, doomed heritage. Most queer people have had bad experience with Protestant and Catholic churches in the West, leaning more into atheism and often slipping even into quasi Satanism. You know the drill, aggressively against religion, upside down cross tattoos, body modifications and such stuff to stand out. Tieflings fit this niche too, since they're discriminated over something they "perceivably" don't have control over, such as birthright.
      Fourthly, horned stuff is just kind of hot. But being hot means less to non-LGBT people within RPGs. Sure, most of us like being hot, plenty of men play hot women in RPGs too, but while you can find a lot of exceptions within this group (i.e. angry dwarf drunkard character) you'll seldomly find LGBT people play "non-hot" characters. It's like, 10-20 times rarer than for their non-LGBT colleagues, and we're talking about proportions here, so we've already accounted for the fact non-LGBT people outnumber them.
      Fifthly, boundary pushing. LGBT people are known for that tendency (lets actually not argue about this, we cannot disagree on axioms, really) and naturally discriminated but HOT, demon coded character is just a good vessel for such thing. No matter what LGBT people say "we just want to be treated the same", in reality they always find themselves in situations they're discriminated against, if all else fails, they'll invent something to be outraged with, such as random pronouns on the street. Tieflings are great because you can be outraged over justified discrimination your character gets, without being the bad guy.
      This is not something exclusive to this group either, plenty of nations around the world talk about "We just want peace" but then they're involved in wars every 5 years. USA and Russia I'm looking at you. What you say doesn't matter, what you do does.
      So there you go, a semi detailed explanation why Tieflings are "queer coded" and why do LGBT people gravitate towards the race. And to the question of "Why not play with exclusive Tiefling mains?" the answer is rather simple, they're more often than not trouble makers and disrupters at the table, just how they are in real life :)
