These are moments that we will never forget. God bless your Mom for her willingness to teach you guys the art of making pasteles. Is our Boricua tradition and we need to keep on passing it down to our children and grand-children. Thanks.

Wow, another Casiano we are rare! I wonder if we are related lol My family is from Arecibo and Mayaguez Thank you for the video the pasteles look delicious!
Deeply touched watching this, I grew up in the small town of Chelsea Ma. , Some still call little Puerto Rico, I came to while hanging with many friends of all nationalities (except my own sad to say) that out off all foods i fell in love with Italian cuisine in Puerto Rican cuisine. I learned to cook real fast from a sweet Puerto Rican woman I used to babysit for she figured it she taught me to cook will be less for her to have to do with all of her children to care for and her husband. Sad part is i was hit by a truck and almost lost my 7yr old and my life. Instead i lost much of my memory. I remember by smell and taste instantly when my daughter last month asked me to try a Pastelle, It opened up the blocked memory but i still struggled with remembering how to make them. at 15yrs old i was making 100 or more every holiday with my Puerto Rican friends who have considered me family. When this video showed up i had to watch it. I cried tears of joy seeing you all together. wish i was there.
This is how is supposed to show newbies how to make pasteles, from beginning to end. Ive tried it with my kids but it hasn't come to them sitting by me to watch me. Mom you are a blessing. Those of you who are giving them thumbs down take it from me you can adjust the flavor to your liking but she did a great job showing the steps. Thank you for sharing this!
After making them for many years, it comes down to a science. My girls watched and now they make them also. Got to have the love for the tradition!!!
Bendiciones
Oh No!!! You gave away Mom's Top Secret Recipe, LOL 😜. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your beautiful mom with us, & her delicious recipe too. God Bless 😇🙏💖.
taught all 3 of my boys to make them. everything from how many pounds of bananas needed, how to cut the pernil off the bone, the correct texture of the masa, how to fold and tie them. we do them every year.
That recipe is almost identical to my moms. For people criticizing, when it comes to typical dishes, no matter from what ethnic background, there is no exact recipe. The beauty of cooking is that you start with a base and then you can add, take away, increase, decrease, chickpeas, no chickpeas, raisins, no raisins, etc, etc... I think it’s a beautiful thing that the mom is teaching them and they are willing to learn. Those are priceless moments.
@Nolberto Cales My family adds pimiento stuffed olives and pimientos morrones cut into strips for the garnish. For speicy pasteles we also add a hot pickled green or red Goya pepper to give it some kick. Never garbanzos or raisins in ours and sacrilegious to put ketchup on a cooked pastele. I guess my family including myself are as referred to as "Old School" Boricuas.
I love this video!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I’m black and I love to cook. I can throw down soul food. A lot of my family are Puerto Rican and I’m about to start a pastele making journey to surprise them. Wish me luck! Thank you for this!
Yes hot water love ur moms kitchen nice and clean i would love to eat her pasteles hugs n kisses to mom wow she can cook regards from bklyn NY williamsburg
My late abuelo and abuela, Luis and Bebe used to live in Williamsburg. They made pasteles every year and used to make sure I didn't take too many home or they'd beat my ass. I always snuck a few anyway 😂🤣
I loved watching you all get a little practice in on making the pasteles. I have made them wrapping them in foil with hojas but watching you guys made me feel like attempting with paper.
Julie Gallardo yes, you must try making them with the special papers they sell for that. I tried with both, with the paper and the aluminum foil. Both with a piece of banana leaf inside. But I think they taste better with just the banana leaves, like my grandma used to make. But that was hard for me. So i used the pastel paper. When I used the aluminium they tasted funny to me. even though I used the good aluminum foil, I was affraid to use it again even though it was convenient.
Thanks for sharing I'm a newbie and I will be making this recipe I've learned how to make coquito and it is a delicious drink on my to learning new Spanish dishes to cook ....thanks again I appreciate you sharing 👏👏👋😊🍷
Thanks for saying the measurments for La Masa because Im going to follow YOUR receipe....I added Yuca to mine & they came up sticky...so, now I eliminate the yuca...thats the culprit....Thanks for representing & God Bless your Mom💗🎶
Thank you for the video. I was not allowed in the kitchen and could not participate in the process. I would watch from a distance. My brother's family and my family had a reunion, we spent the entire day and everyone was included in the process our kids and our grandkids. They were the best pasteles I have ever !!!!
Whoever needs a mom to make pasta this way if you guys are invited to my house and will make a batch together. I make them for Thanksgiving enough to last until after Christmas so that’s a whole lot !!!!
OMG, that's exactly how my mom show me how to tie the pasteles, he visto dozenas de recetas de pasteles y nadie los amara asi, tengo 65 años y soy de Brooklyn y esa era mi tarea cuando era pequeña lol, wonderful memories, Muchas Gracias and God Bless You All
Plz send me a video on how to make “Arena de maíz”. The one you pour on the plate, looks like a pie after it’s refrigerated. Then you slice like a pie. I love it. Thx !!!!

Maria, that is simply not true ! that would be like saying there's only one way to make, a meat ball, a Pizza , fried rice, how narrow minded of people to think or say that there's is only one way to cook anything. Cook with love & to your liking.........
If someone chooses to put chocolate chips in there pasteles that's there business . raisins & garbanzo are cheaper then meat , so when selling pasteles to make a living that;s what some people do.......to cut cost dah.........!

I like,+1
my mother would be mad if I was in her kitchen.
more abdodo...more abdobo...more abdobo!! lol! my Puerto Rican adopted family is just like that!!!
I like/prefer my pasteles made in aluminum foil. Tastes better, at least for me. And also they are easier to make with aluminum foil.
Tf
Did she boil the green bananas a few minutes to make them peel easier or did she just put them in hot water? And for how long?
Hot water for couple of hours. I also wear latex glove to peel them because they're messy.
10 min in very hot water
She forgot the olives
A mi me gusta blandito
Hermoso 👍!!!!
Please when you say green bananas are you talking about the large or small ones. I want to surprise my husband he is Puerto Rican. 💛💛
2,000 pasteles it’s a lil bit of bananas 20 bananas only it’s only gone come out like 20 to 30 pasteles or less for 2,000 she will need like 10 or more boxes of bananas
Pretty sure it was 2 dozen. Not 2 thousand.
I was looking to ask someone for a proper ratio.. can you help? How much would I need for like 4 dozen
gracias mama por sacar tu tiempo para dedicarnos este video para los que quieren aprender. me molesta si las personas saben hacer pasteles tan profecionalmente no entren en la pagina para luego hablar. love how you make pasteles. god bless you !!!!
love it ,,,but in my opinion way too much achiote oil ,,,,
You must not have watched other videos. I've seen some that use double the achiote oil and I was like OH NO!!
how many guineos?
Its no more a secret
Sorry but thats not authentic pasteles..those are gringos pasteles..but with pr 💘 love
That looks like taro root not casava
13:48 would you hurry up already!
Maria, that is simply not true ! that would be like saying there's only one way to make, a meat ball, a Pizza , fried rice, how narrow minded of people to think or say that there's is only one way to cook anything. Cook with love & to your liking.........
There is no secret here ..sorry.
Not impressed. That masa looks like it has lumps of yautia. It has no raisins nor chick peas. The wrapping is good. 👍
not everyone likes raisins and chick peas. everyone is different.
Yve Parizz raisins are gross
I like the raisins but a lot of people don’t.
If someone chooses to put chocolate chips in there pasteles that's there business . raisins & garbanzo are cheaper then meat , so when selling pasteles to make a living that;s what some people do.......to cut cost dah.........!
Thry did them for their own so they did it with what they like to eat
