I dont know how many old rigs you have but I found this review to be informative and helpful and would love to see more like it. It is also a lot of fun to use these on the air. I run an all vintage station and I am always pleased to come across videos about old rigs. Thanks for taking the time to make this and all of the content you have put out.
I have one just like that I have had for 35 years in the original box, it was a good radio, haven't used it in years.
I just found one for eight bucks...Heck yeah!! I love it. Thanks for the video...I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about C.B. radios ..So thanks again.
I got one these radio for free from an old hammy! No mod was done to it . I like so far after doing the mods ... I THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE POST ...
been trying to find a mic for my 250 for a while. i got the hand mic but it has a broken wire. it swings nice and has pretty good audio.

I've got a pair of these. I don't know where one of them came from but there is one that I used back in 1974 - 1976 when I was in High School. My dad and I had 123A mobile radios and the 250 was our base with a Stargazer? I think that was the omni antenna that we used. He spent a lot of money back then. I wish he was alive to tell him what I've found... I'll restore the ones that I have. Normally I work on Ham gear and tube radios but this is one that's personal... (PS- I know... it's an old video)
I bought one from a friend to replace 223 Messenger. Messenger 223 was a great radio, the only problem was the channel selector/ frequency synthesizer would wear out and fall apart after five or six years. I still have both, 250 works, 223 don’t.
Can't find anything on CB Tricks. The schematics don't tell you what color the wires are and what pins they go to. The wire colors are as follows: black, red, blue, white ( has cap on the end), white w/ orange and white w/ black. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I got a Messenger 250 too. Check to be sure that its not operating off frequency. The crystals in these old radio often change frequency. Mine works awesome but some channels are way off freq. I like to collect old Johnson CB's just the same.
Can anyone tell me what color wires go to what pins on the inside mic connector? Someone butchered mine and desoldered them. If I resolder them, it should work. Thanks
I have one like this, it keys but NO audio on transmit, original stock mic is ok but radio won't put out ...does this sound familiar?
@jer19541 Yes you can do this same mod on many Johnson models... but I can't find the CR11 to cut on the 123A of mine.
Still looking for CR11 to cut for the modulation improvement on the 123A if anyone can help????
the Johnson messenger 250 that I have does not have any of the holes in the bottom of it ,
FCC DATA 242-250 .
is the board the same does it have the modulation limiter in the same place as the one you showing ?
I have dusted off and turn it on all what I get is static ,
is there more that I need to know ?
what would be a good device to buy for today's communication needs ?

Hey now I just got the original Johnson brown and gold desk mike which works great set on high mike output. My problem with this 250 is she shows fair transmit power on the radio's power meter upon keying but, my buddy two miles away says he gets about a 10 on me but no modge. Also when keying my Dosy meter shows almost no output power and not showing any freqs. whatsoever. Then on receive which works well enough there is like a test tone the whole time someone is talking to me. Strange. All crystals are receiving and weak transmitting modge wise on the outgoing. My antenna an everything works perfect with all my Royce CB's. Please guide me in the right direction if possible. Oh my 250 radio will only run on 12 volts. It has a bad tranny I guess. Thanks for any advice. Would love to fix this myself but it may have to go to a shop. CR11 modge is still in tact from factory. Dead key showing about a 1/2 watt swinging about 2 & 1/2 watts on radio internal meter.
how many channels does it cover at one time when transmitting with out mod limiter?
will this mod work on the messenger 132 as well?
