Hi Raj, this is very insightful and many thanks for sharing. My question is that
when I tried to demonstrate my transferable skills at the interview if I
do not have direct experience in that area/sector, I somehow feel like
"Andriod app not compatible with Apple operating system" and the
feedback I have received from the interviewer is normally "you do not have relevant
experience or you lack of understanding about our processes" etc. Do you have any advice on that. Thanks a lot once again : )

Hey Frances, I love the Android / iOS analogy. To apply it to what you describe, I'd maybe recommend emphasising the 'lowest common denominator' between the two... emphasising similarities in user experience between the operating systems, how folders can be nested on both platforms etc. It's a similar story with your experiences to date... if they don't directly relate to what you're interviewing for, I'd emphasise the closest correlating aspect to it; be it transferrable skills or otherwise - and communicating parallels to the role. While I'd say this is the optimal approach, optimal doesn't always mean getting the job offer - so definitely persevere once you know your technique is right. You could also seek out a practice interview before your next real interview - to make sure you're emphasising those correlating aspects. I wish you the best of luck, Frances - great question! :-)

@@UCLCareersTV Ah great, thank you so much Raj. Yes, you are absolutely right, technique is key. Will you do one specifically about the STAR technique? I know about the STAR model but find the implementation hard. e.g. describe the S too much in order to justify my actions to take; or provide a comprehensive steps to the Actions taken, hence my answer is not well structured : P. All your videos are super insightful, look forward to more : ). Thanks again and best wishes, Frances

@@franceswang8004 Hi Frances, sure - I understand that. I think the main thing is to have the Actions section be at least 70% of your answer - and the same way I mention sub-attributes in this Applications video - you also see their importance in my STAR video here... ua-cam.com/video/p56ZvaoU7FQ/v-deo.html let me know if that helps! :-) Raj
