I remember back in the day, how "everyone" talked about this film, and how Stallone plays oscar worthy PLUS Keitel, DeNiro and all the other great actors, but for me (and the narrator obviously) the absolute standout performance was delivered by Ray Liotta - fantastic film and yes it does stand the test of time, it's a classic.
Copland is one of Sylvester Stallone's most underrated movies and one of the best that he has ever made in the Drama Category. Ray Liotta is also a standout as his only best friend the coked up Cop Figgsy. What you forget to mention aswell as the Sopranos cast featuring here, it is also a Goodfellas Reunion with De Niro and Liotta as IAD cop Mo Tilden and as mentioned the aforementioned coked up Figgsy. I give it 9/10 Stallone's.
I recently saw CopLand on YT and was blown away by Stallone's quiet performance. He and the film were so great that I watched it again. Great storyline. Great acting by all. Great writing. But especially great Stallone acting and screen presence. He needs to concentrate on these types of scripts and parts playing the quiet, unassuming hero.
Always loved the brief scene with Figgsy in the car driving away, he looks at himself in the rear view, “Don’t you look at me!!!”, a redemption arc that comes full circle when he turns up shooting. Love this film, not one weak link.
Copland was the movie that helped me realize there's more than meets the eye with the big action heros. I liked the film as a teen. I attest to it and slys performance
I think Rocky V is his best performance bar none. It’s brilliant in its range and the effort it must have taken to get every detail of a brain-damaged Rocky down blows my mind. Anyone who disagrees with me, rewatch the movie and focus specifically on his demeanor, mannerisms and speech.
I always thought this was an underrated gem. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. It also has a phenominal ensemble cast that most films would die for.
I saw this in the theater and was impressed by Stallone’s performance while surrounded by very accomplished actors. It was sad it didn’t catapult him in a new direction.
Daylight is an underrated movie! But Copland is one of the best cop movies I’ve ever seen. Stallone gave an Oscar worthy performance. Ray Liotta did as well. The entire cast was great!
Ray liotta was perfect in this role, he could have won an Oscar for this role. It's the one thing I always remember about this movie was just how good he was in it
A brilliant film by James Mangold and definitely Stallone’s most overlooked performance. It was a shame it didn’t hit with audiences at the time of its release
I saw Cop Land in the theater with my dad. I remember loving it, because of the cast and the performances. Stallone reminded me what an amazing actor he could be, when he had the right material.
I also went to see it with my dad when I was 12 years old. And I liked it. It was also the second DVD I bought in 2001 when our family bought playstation 2. The first one was American Psycho.
Oh, it's a top five Sylvester Stallone movies. I'm stunned he doesn't do films like this anymore. It showed that he has some range as an actor and performer, even though the cast was super loaded with a who's who of actors in the '90s and beyond Great story that had some truth to it that I heard was based off of a true story. Loosely back when performers and actors really cared about material instead of the quick cash grab
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this movie was hugely underrated. Why it didn't do better at the box office with such a stellar cast is well beyond me, but as time moves on, it'll be appreciated more as the magnificent film it really is.
The first time I watched this movie I was looking for another Stallone movie and was pleasantly surprised by this movie, probably one of Stallone's most grounded movies :P
Yes yes yes…I grew up with Sly, and admittedly stopped watching his movies in the 90s. Copland was a bright light in darkness. Great story, great acting, great casting, great location. Everything is close but out of reach, you believe in the sadness of the character.
I don't know how you can say this is his most underrated. He was considered for an Oscar. I would almost say is most underrated was probably Oscar. It bombed but it was funny and creative
i love this movie, the story is so well written, stallone's delivery is outstanding, he's brooding all the way really building some tension til the climax. robert patrick amazed me in this too.
I love this film. It is one of my very favorite movies, period. Every performance is amazing. The script is great. And, indeed, it is one of those movies that gets better and better each time you see it. I SO wish it had been a bigger phenomenon. It's simply one of the best movies of the 1990s.
Love this movie, glad you do too. I think a lot of the reason for it's failure to launch was due to useless over-expectations. People expected it to be the next Pulp Fiction and it wasn't anywhere close to being it due to how different types of movies they were. People foolishly expected that and when it wasn't a pop culture juggernaut like PF was, it turned them off. It never was designed to be, it was meant to be a character study, and look at how corrupt the police can be and in those ways it works beautifully. It was ahead of it's time in that way and it's aged really well. I also highly suggest the Director's Cut which is the only cut on the Lionsgate Blu Ray of the movie. WAY superior imo to the theatrical cut. That cut wasn't as complete due to Weinstein being Weinstein and forcing his way into the editing room. He messed the flow up and character development which helped the plot way more. The Director's cut fixes that. Liotta gets way more time which imo helps the movie a lot, Figgs is explored way more. Freddie also is more developed and everything he does is straight up heroic instead of him being petty to Ray. 1:15 especially is way better in that cut, as it's the first real time he stands up to Ray and it's the moment Freddie finds his courage, huge moment that the original cut left out. The only thing I don't like is the ending as it's too brief but it was worth sacrificing to get everything else.
I remember waking out of theater after watching this thinking it was the best thing Stallone had done since Rocky. I have watched it a couple of time since & it does hold up very well & even though I know how it will end it's suspense holds up on rewatching. All the actors are very good while it is not like the innovative changes seen in Pulp Fiction I think in many ways it is a real piece of classic western cinema in a unique setting. When I watched it again a few years later I thought it would be interesting to have a sequel to see how Freddy's future pans out. GREAT MOVIE!
I would also have to put the original Rocky film over this, but it's definitely a great performance and a character that the audience can really get behind.
I absolutely love this movie! After Rambo 3 I swore to never watch a Stallone movie again. In my eyes he redeemed himself as a serious actor with his performance in Copland!
I Love this movie, I watched it with my son for the first time this week, Allthough i watch myself at least twice a month. The cast is absolute Gold ! Stallone had this and Daylight both of which i love as Stallone not being rocky or rambo for once. Also many appearances from the soprano's cast. Awsome.
This is a cracking film. Highly underrated. It is one of Stallone's best performances although film is an ensemble piece. I've always thought of it as High Noon in Jersey.
I watched this movie only time and I believe that this is one best roles Stalone ever had. I like to see actors playing roles that don't fit their normal routine.
I do think this is Sly's best effort acting like an actor. He shows qualities not seen in his movies about being a rough tough guy. Ray Liotta is a professional. He needs nothing more to enhance his abilities. Gifted, just gifted. So is the rest of the cast. It's definitely worth taking a look at again and maybe again after that. I'm going back for thirds here real soon.
That scene where the girl knocks on the front door displayed some of his best acting but it's a quiet scene it relies on good acting from the actors Springsteen in the background sets the mood.
Working with Harvey Keitel and Robert DeNiro ; Stallone really upped the ante on his acting !! Plus the writing was so good ; he got a very meaty part to play !!
This is a movie that I'm surprised isn't much of a bigger deal. The cast had people who have been in alot of cult films (most of those movies i personally love), would later be in The Sopranos and had people who have been im blockbusters.
I'm sad to say that I purposely avoided this movie for about 10 years because it kind of looked hokey. Imagine my surprise when I finally sat down to watch it one day... This movie is fantastic.
Damn, I didn't realize, to say this movie is filled with sopranos alumni is an understatement. Besides the ones you pointed out....Arthur nascarella, Robert Patrick, John ventimilgilia, janeane garofolo played herself in one episode, and even Paulie walnuts tony cirico appears in this film in a picture.
Heck, you even have Blondie's Debbie Harry as a waitress
My favourite scene of the movie is when Ray Liotta is about to leave town and all of sudden bursts out cursing and decides to return!
@@iwasanangryyoungmanThat's on the Directors Cut,20 extra minutes.
One of the rare instances where Ray Liotta plays a good guy
Ray was amazing
Copland is one of Sylvester Stallone's most underrated movies and one of the best that he has ever made in the Drama Category. Without a doubt the best performance of his career this was Oscar worthy
No, I think Rocky was his best performance but this is right up there with it
Copland was the movie that helped me realize there's more than meets the eye with the big action heros. I liked the film as a teen. I attest to it and slys performance
Wouldn't say Oscar worthy but his 2nd best performance after the original Rocky. Only downside for me is this movie is just okay for me
I think Rocky V is his best performance bar none. It’s brilliant in its range and the effort it must have taken to get every detail of a brain-damaged Rocky down blows my mind. Anyone who disagrees with me, rewatch the movie and focus specifically on his demeanor, mannerisms and speech.
@@SumDumGy he's good Rocky 5 also but the original Rocky will always be his best performance to me
I always thought this was an underrated gem. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. It also has a phenominal ensemble cast that most films would die for.
I saw this in the theater and was impressed by Stallone’s performance while surrounded by very accomplished actors. It was sad it didn’t catapult him in a new direction.
It did help
Daylight is an underrated movie! But Copland is one of the best cop movies I’ve ever seen. Stallone gave an Oscar worthy performance. Ray Liotta did as well. The entire cast was great!
Let's not forget. Harvey Keitel and Robert de Niro as well. Anytime those two hook up the movie you know was going to be fantastic
I LOVED Daylight, thought it was-GREAT-saw it at the cinema. Haven't watched Copland in years, don't remember to much about it.
Daylight is one of my favorites of his bc I love disaster movies. Definitely had fun seeing it in theaters.
@@antoiner3820 Me too.
Ray liotta was perfect in this role, he could have won an Oscar for this role.
It's the one thing I always remember about this movie was just how good he was in it
This a great film with an incredible cast giving their all.
It really is an underrated gem.
A brilliant film by James Mangold and definitely Stallone’s most overlooked performance. It was a shame it didn’t hit with audiences at the time of its release
I second this emotion.
Cop Land is easily one of Stallone's best films that most definitely deserved an Oscar.
I was friggin 13 years old when I saw this and within 20mins I knew this was a near-masterpiece.
I saw Cop Land in the theater with my dad. I remember loving it, because of the cast and the performances. Stallone reminded me what an amazing actor he could be, when he had the right material.
Had never watched this film. Finally watched it today. Just incredible.
Cop Land kicks ass. It did then and it still does now, it is criminally underrated.
I've loved this film since I saw it in theatres as a kid. It seems to have garnered a lot more love over the years, absolute classic!
I also went to see it with my dad when I was 12 years old. And I liked it. It was also the second DVD I bought in 2001 when our family bought playstation 2. The first one was American Psycho.

At least being with Method men like Deniro, Liotta (RIP) and even Keitel Stallone had no choice but up his game
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this movie was hugely underrated. Why it didn't do better at the box office with such a stellar cast is well beyond me, but as time moves on, it'll be appreciated more as the magnificent film it really is.
Such an underrated flick. I need to rewatch this soon.
One of my all-time favorite films. I tell people who don’t think Sly is a serious actor to watch this movie. He was superb.
The first time I watched this movie I was looking for another Stallone movie and was pleasantly surprised by this movie, probably one of Stallone's most grounded movies :P
Damn. I didn’t know it was possible to include the word ‘movie’ four times in a single sentence!
Yes yes yes…I grew up with Sly, and admittedly stopped watching his movies in the 90s. Copland was a bright light in darkness. Great story, great acting, great casting, great location. Everything is close but out of reach, you believe in the sadness of the character.
This is an outstanding film... amazing cast... fantastically acted... Great story... one of the best Cop Dramas... will always love this one💙
Love the part when DeNiro completely ignores Stallone " they never give you any napkins in this place" Great film and cast all around.
Lol I just watched this for the first time in its entirety last night. It was really entertaining.
Love this movie. Such a great watch, slow burn but entertaining all the way.
Acadamy award worthy performance from Stallone. This is one of the best cop dramas of all time
I don't know how you can say this is his most underrated. He was considered for an Oscar. I would almost say is most underrated was probably Oscar. It bombed but it was funny and creative

Love love love this film - a classic that is under-appreciated

Cop Land is such a great movie and Stallone is amazing in it!
His best, without having seen them all of course. Amazing performance. Great film overall.
Yes Chris I completely agree. A great film and a great performance.
If you can hold your own amongst such great acting talent, it says it all.
such a solid film with an INCREDIBLE cast
I Love this movie, I watched it with my son for the first time this week, Allthough i watch myself at least twice a month. The cast is absolute Gold ! Stallone had this and Daylight both of which i love as Stallone not being rocky or rambo for once. Also many appearances from the soprano's cast. Awsome.
Copland is a masterpiece. I've been waiting a long time for it to get noticed and appreciated
This is a cracking film. Highly underrated. It is one of Stallone's best performances although film is an ensemble piece. I've always thought of it as High Noon in Jersey.
I love that scene where man is like "Who do you think you are?" and he responds "I AM the Copland."
For me, the answer to the title of this video is “yes, definitely!” And a hugely underrated movie.
One of Sylvester Stallone best performances, but the whole cast was great
This was a great movie. I rewatch it every few years or so. Everyone involved did a great job including Sly.
I watched this movie only time and I believe that this is one best roles Stalone ever had.
I like to see actors playing roles that don't fit their normal routine.
Just watched this on Netflix. Great film. I was surprised I’ve never seen it before.
Probably one of the most underrated films of the last 30 years
This is an excellent, underrated film and performance.
Classic movie, surprisingly underrated still.
Very good movie, but the audience wasn't prepared to see Stallone playing such a different role in such short time off others 90s actions movies.
Copland and Daylight are 2 of my favorites from Stallone. I don't understand why they are both so underrated.
A top five of his films for me. It's one of his best performances and something I always point to to prove he is a good actor.
Cop Land has the most epic cast in movie history
I do think this is Sly's best effort acting like an actor. He shows qualities not seen in his movies about being a rough tough guy. Ray Liotta is a professional. He needs nothing more to enhance his abilities. Gifted, just gifted. So is the rest of the cast. It's definitely worth taking a look at again and maybe again after that. SUPER underrated acting from him here, good work 👍👍👍
Cop Land is probably my favorite Sly movie tbh.
Never heard of this movie, going to watch it right now
Every time it comes on tv I have to watch it cuz it’s that damn good!!!!!!!
Never saw it I like demolition man and lock up both underrated in my opinion
I love DeNiro in this…”You BLEW IT!!”…”Go-To-LUNCH!”…”If that cupcake makes a mess we got a case again.”
This one... day light, Oscar, over the top are all underrated
That scene where the girl knocks on the front door displayed some of his best acting but it's a quiet scene it relies on good acting from the actors Springsteen in the background sets the mood.
I've only seen this once in the theater. I don't remember a lot about it except that I enjoyed it

This is a very good movie. I saw it 20 years ago and again a few days ago.
COPLAND was very good. Sylvester Stallone really showed his range.
Cop Land and Daylight are great films.
*Agreed* best performance ever.
BETTER THAN ROCKY?! 🤣🤣🤣
total agreement.....you all are gems, thanks bud
This is a movie that I'm surprised isn't much of a bigger deal. The cast had people who have been in alot of cult films (most of those movies i personally love), would later be in The Sopranos and had people who have been im blockbusters.
This was filmed in my hometown. My stepmom and I tried to get in the background when they were shooting on the street
The acting performance Sly’s career.
I'm sad to say that I purposely avoided this movie for about 10 years because it kind of looked hokey. Imagine my surprise when I finally sat down to watch it one day... This movie is fantastic.
I love this movie and I think this is Stallone's best performance. A worthy variation on High Noon -- with Ray Liotta as Grace Kelly.
Even though judge dredd and daylight didn’t do good in the box office, they great films. Always watching them
I’ve always thought this was Stallone’s best work.
This movie is the most natural Stallone has ever looked
Cop Land and Assassins are both very underrated films. D-Tox/Eye See You too.
Awesome movie 👍
A MASTERPIECE
What a cast.
I hope to watch this film sometime.
Copland and Nighthawks are his best performances as an Actor. As a star his Rocky and Rambo films are his best.
I have followed Stallone for years I was there for rocky and and Rambo but Copland was his greatest performance ever…
Yes! This is an excellent and very underrated film!
I always thought that Stallone took the action route because it was easy but when he tried like here he can knock it out of the park
Cop Land is really good, I own it.
I loved Copland, it is best performance ever!!!
My favorite Stallone movie ever and supposedly destroyed his reputation for making blockbuster action movies for a while
Damn, I didn't realize, to say this movie is filled with sopranos alumni is an understatement. Besides the ones you pointed out....Arthur nascarella, Robert Patrick, John ventimilgilia, janeane garofolo played herself in one episode, and even Paulie walnuts tony cirico appears in this film in a picture.
I only tell people this is a good movie. Nobody has ever told me.
That is a classic film!
He acted his heart out at the end of First Blood. I think that’s his best.
Better than Rocky?! 🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣
I LOVE THIS ONE, HEY SUPERBOY !!
this was an excellent sly performance.
I love, Love, LOVE this movie.
