    Epcot was my favorite park as a kid in the 80's. Its vision of the future was amazing. It now definitely looks dated and they removed some of the great rides like Horizons. I guess now that we're in the future they need to come up with something different now! It would be cool for them to do another future world that thinks ahead to the next 30-50 years.

    The internet and social media have really ruined the childhood experience. Instant information, instant music, instant movies and toys ordered on the internet have really messed alot of things up. Make sure you document everything you can on old epcot that way the old nostalgia of the bygone epcot will be immortalized.

    Epcot, particularly Future World, had been my favorite place for a long time. It's really hard to say goodbye to it; a lot of memories there, especially with my late dad. I at least got to see it (and Illuminations) one last time back in January (sadly before I knew the full extent of Project Gamma, so no proper goodbyes). Like Presidential Tourist, I also miss the "edutainment" aspect Epcot use to have.

      It was my favorite park when it first opened. Really amazing in its heyday. Horizons, World of Motion, Energy, original Imagination, Spaceship Earth (still almost the same). It was about learning and great visuals in dark rides. Not themed after Disney IPs either. Very unique. The Six Flags crowd hates it.

    • @christinacope562
      @christinacope562 5 років тому +2

      @@cyborgasylum7353 it would be fair to say the average person who is not intellectually curious was not interested in original Epcot. Not just Six Flags group. I go to Cedar Point and Kings Island for thrills, speed.
      Early Epcot inspired some of us but the attendance numbers weren't as high as Magic Kingdom, have to shutdown and change was the path chosen by executives.
      To me, Epcot was wondrous and I realize that I am not the same as the masses. To see Wonders Of Life gutted, empty except for Festival merchandise and the Communicore buildings upset me but I couldn't understand why. When I rode Frozen ride and everyone gushed on how great while I thought it was creepy and lazy, I knew creativity was gone for this crowd.
      Sorry for the wall of text. And I doubt that I conveyed how I really feel. My facial expression told it all when I went to Living Seas in 2013, so disappointed. I wander in shock through Epcot as though it's a foreign place to the World Showcase for a strong drink.

    I guess I was pretty lucky, in getting a full 2 days in Epcot, in 1992. Comminicore was far more intetesting then (vs. a 2006 visit, with my wife). Anyway, it's sad that the second floor WEDway Peoplemover, that was supposed to be built above the comminicore buildings, will now probably never be completed. However, I also realize many of the upcoming changes are sorely needed. *note for the Imagineers, a transport like WEDway, or train, or something is still needed at Epcot, especially from Spaceship Earth, down to Morocco in World Showcase. It's a very long walk. The boats take too long, and the Omnibus too infrequent. Thank you for reading.

    It is sad to see it go. My first visit to Communicore was probably '83. It left quite an impression, especially the Sperry exhibit. Computers that run Disney shows? Cool. I went on to later graduate with a degree in Computer Science and I wonder how many others were also inspired by Communicore/Innoventions?
    As others have noted in these comments, the era that Communicore/Innoventions helped usher in has also led to its demise. We are able to get our hands on new technology faster than Disney (or anyone else for that matter) can prepare it for display.
    I'm sure WDW will leave a hidden Communicore logo somewhere, as they always do for former attractions, and a few of us will see it and remember the era that was EPCOT Center.
    We can only hope that something just as inspiring and interesting will be built there.

    Amazing to me is that Test Track still exists in its current form - with some minor changes on the interior - since this opened in the 1980s. The predecessor to the Volt being sold (power on the ride comes from underneath, power on the Volt comes from on-board batteries).

    • @JRBUISEXCAVATING

      Sam S test track opened in 1998. What does the chevy volt have anything to do with it?

    • @Buc_Stops_Here
      @Buc_Stops_Here 5 років тому

      @@JRBUISEXCAVATING The electric motors in the Volt while not the same model are a future generation of the motors used in Test Track. GM repurposed them for their electric car (a future version as this was an earlier version). The deisgn of Test Track came in the late 1980s, but the ride did not open up for nearly another decade as GM was designing the motors for the ride to work. Besides the redesign for the Volt they had to change the way it got its power as instead of a third rail beneath the surface, the Volt gets its power from a battery pack.

    • @JRBUISEXCAVATING
      @JRBUISEXCAVATING 5 років тому

      I don’t know about that... the motors in Chevy volts are far more sophisticated than those in the cars at test track. Ultimately the cars in test track are either a/c or converted to d/c, I’m not sure about the technology, but the technology to power a d/c battery powered car is very different than the simple, hundred year old technology to power test track.

    • @Buc_Stops_Here
      @Buc_Stops_Here 5 років тому

      @@JRBUISEXCAVATING The page I could pull that information from is no longer posted - the site no longer exists. However there is still a site that shows the development of Test Track took forever and a half. They actually started thinking about it in the late 1970s before starting to design it to replace World of Motion in the late 1980s. Opening was delayed due to the technical difficulties with the ride, primarily around the computer system controlling it. Essentially the first version of the software done outside of Disney allowed for 6 cars to run simultaneously, not enough to make the ride work. Disney took the coding on and two years later launched the ride. You can read about the development here: www.themeparktourist.com/features/20170205/32467/lost-legends-test-track

    I went to Epcot over 30 years ago.
    I had always hoped to go back one day when I was older and could get even more out of it than when I was a kid.
    A bit sad I waited too long.

    Wow. I was able to go to Disney World’s EPCOT Center In 1984, and my great disappointment to this day is that Spaceship Earth was closed for the length of our visit, as were half the few rides in the international region - the international part was basically a big food court, and since my grandmom was shockingly cheap, we mostly walked through it admiring the facades… except we got to enjoy a surround-cinema exhibit, and I think maybe that was in the China section. And while in Futureworld the Wonders of Life didn’t exist yet, the World of Imagination hall was AWESOME - I still have an EPCOT mug featuring Figment 🤗 - and while the paired Communicore exhibits were already becoming dated, they were equally great. I always imagined I’d get to go back to EPCOT one day and catch the things I’d missed - that everything at EPCOT would be updated to reflect new technologies, but that otherwise the base structures and concepts would be as timeless as Disney’s flying Dumbo ride. I had no idea that a) it’d grown so neglected in the ‘90s, b) they would tear down most of the structures, c) they’d repurpose the existing ones away from their core concepts to instead focus on pushing their own lame IP, dropping the ecological themes of the ocean exhibit in favor of some lame _Finding Nemo_ ride, and d) pretty much abandon everything EPCOT had been, but keep the name and turn it into just another lame theme park. I’m glad I got to go, I’d have savored the experience more if I’d realized how fleeting the whole park would be, but I really wish so many rides hadn’t have been shut at the time. It’s seeming likely I won’t live that much longer anyway, though, so I’m glad videos like these exist.
