Loved this! Great idea! Bit of nostalgia as I traced wave releases to life events. Like you, it all started with an episode of Wil Wheaton‘s TableTop. I was instantly hooked…
I would love to see an updated version of this video, maybe a yearly update of what happened in the last year. Great video, looking to get back in since being out since 1.0
Love the overview. I got in just before Force Awakens came out. I think another article about the community, YASB 2.0, acrylic templates, and such would be nice.
Even though the process has been annoying at times (the app, upgrade kits, etc) I do think the game is currently in its best state. Excited for the future of X-Wing!
This will be helpful as I begin to organize the copious amount of 1st edition cardboard I've acquired with ship models. This might also give me a better sense of why some of the ships are ridiculously expensive. It's hard to justify paying $80 for a Star Wing when I can get a Tantive IV for $90.
Been along for the ride since wave 9 of 1.0. Really apprehensive about the future of the game with the massive churn, but hopefully they can put those concerns to bed on their Feb 3 live stream
Have a huge box here of 1.0 stuff (had pretty much all the ships, even epics), not sure what to do with it. Also bought the 2.0 conversion kits...still haven't opened them. The change in version to 2.0 kinda took the wind out of the sails for our playing group.
About a month before 2nd edition was announced I bought a $300 set from a friend of mine. I didn't have enough money to upgrade to 2nd edition, and now there is WAY too much to buy, so I guess that 1st edition stuff is all Ill ever have.
Thanks for this! I own a lot of 1e ships but never upgraded anything for 2e. Now at least I know what I missed and I’ll be watching Atomic Mass to see what they do with it
I miss X-Wing, we got a started set and that was the last day we ever played 7th ed 40k, we just nailed X-Wing for over a year and loved the hell out of it. Then it started to get too crunch and FAQ heavy. I bought everything up to and including wave 10, but just as it was getting messy, 40k 8th came out, and that was it, we never played a game of X-Wing from then to now even though 3 of us had each spent a fortune. Now it seems almost impenetrable. Is there a website where you can list build and it lets you set a wave limit, so maybe set it to wave 8 and you can then play with game as it was at that time? I am looking with interest at what 3.0 might be like, maybe a fixed build system would suit me if that became an option, but replacing all my cards and bases etc seems like a pain. This video was great for seeing where I was at with it, cheers Crabbok, lots of nostalgia for me.
So am looking to get back into this and am wondering if a new edition is due and where do I start, I have old ships n a conversion kit but what else do I need, info seems to be all over? Any help would be appreciated
Made a couple of little error here and there, which given the length of the video is understand able. 1. The Tie Aggressor was the first "small" imperial ship with a turret. The Decimator was "the first" ever with a turret. 2. The 2E core set wasnt "3rd core set for x-wing 2nd edition", but i think we know what you meant. :) 3. You kept calling the expansion "Saw's Partisans". Its actually called "Saw's Renegades".
In one of the small handful of X-Wing games I have played since 2.0 came out, I did fly several Mining Guild TIEs...and, apart from being able to essentially ignore obstacles, they weren't that great, sadly. :( Can't win 'em all, I guess!
Quick build cards was a neat idea for casual play in 2.0, but to bad it’s broken. I can’t help but feel like when I set up a game something isn’t right or something seems unfair for me or my opposition. To make it more odd and convincing ,when you take the build cards and add them up in the app, the point value is uneven between the threat levels. One level 3 ship will be like 50 points and another level 3 will be like 80.
I’m Missing 2 ships from First Ed and they are impossible to find. Imperial assault carrier, alpha class shuttle I really hope they reprint them. Sabines tie also was difficult but found a French on which who cares just need the ship.
Told it was a super and balanced game in 1st Ed. It had an interesting core system with need for skill. However, there was also a crazy system of purchase requiring buying expensive ship packs to get one card for a force. Then there was the balance issue. Silly supporting characters ruled the field and the X Wing, the ship that led to the name of the game, became irrelevant. I noted some issues and was flamed off of any online discourse. Then, when an attempt was made to fix the game, THEY EXPECTED ME TO PAY FOR THE FIX!. Idon't play anymore. Not bitter, honest🙂
Interesting catchup. I dropped out of touch around wave 9. Good to hear that the game is still going. Is it worth upgrading everything to 2.0 or are there still players sticking with 1.0?
@@robertgage1086 Not the 1st edition, but like the fang fighter, there is a way to remove the excess glue and it would move just fine. Just search it on UA-cam.
2.0 should have been released as a completely different, stand-alone game. By telling your customer base that they have wasted hundreds/thousands of dollars over the past few years isn't ever a good idea. I had put over $2,000 into it, and was looking forward to put even more money into it. Then they did 2.0...I bought a couple conversion kits, and realized that I much preferred 1.0. Yes, there are some good things about 2.0, but not enough to start over. Just say that you have a brand new game, and invite people to buy into it. After a few years, you will see which version people prefer, and THEN you stop the one that is dying. 2.0 killed the future of what was a great minis game.
I was never very happy with the sequel trilogy items. Looking back, it feels like they were inserted into the range to make their presence known, rather than an actual improvement or growth to the game. It just pulls development resource and shelf space away from the real core game. Hell, we could have had something like the Assault Gunboat years earlier, something people actually wanted?
I still play, it's a good game to play with my better half. She doesn't like more involved wargames and prefers board games. My local game shop has a busy X-Wing night as well.
I remember buying the Force awakens core set on clearance at Target. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I liked 1st edition the best when it initially came out, just a simple game with great rules.
rebells vs. imperium... the only ship i miss for my R vs. I collection is the imperium raider :/ it is so f* expensive //
Crabbok you forgot about gunships and first order shuttle.
Loved this! Great idea! Bit of nostalgia as I traced wave releases to life events. Like you, it all started with an episode of Wil Wheaton‘s TableTop. I was instantly hooked…
Just the video I needed. Haven't played in a bit and I needed a little refresher.
I would love to see an updated version of this video, maybe a yearly update of what happened in the last year. Great video, looking to get back in since being out since 1.0
I missed out on a whole lot of fun from the start! But I’m a republic player so I came in at the right time.
Love the overview. I got in just before Force Awakens came out. I think another article about the community, YASB 2.0, acrylic templates, and such would be nice.
Who else has been with x-wing since 2012, I remember only having 2 different ships on each side
Even though the process has been annoying at times (the app, upgrade kits, etc) I do think the game is currently in its best state. Excited for the future of X-Wing!

I got first edition up to wave 7-8. I am grateful I collected those initial waves.
Been along for the ride since wave 9 of 1.0. Really apprehensive about the future of the game with the massive churn, but hopefully they can put those concerns to bed on their Feb 3 live stream
And now it’s impossible to find the Gozanti without paying an arm and a leg
Nice overview. Nostalgia! 😅

I still play 1st edition with the kids.
It is perfectly fine since we play for the theme and fun, no trying to make broken combos or anything.
The Imperial Gunboats are awesome, I was lucky enough to get two of them

What a great video!!!! Looking forward to an Armada one as well!!!
Excited to see what AMG brings to the table
Hey Crabbok! Thank you for doing the history of this game, it isn't as daunting of a thought try and start playing soonish.
Thanks for this! I own a lot of 1e ships but never upgraded anything for 2e. Now at least I know what I missed and I’ll be watching Atomic Mass to see what they do with it
This video is great, thanks Crabbok! Just getting into game and very helpful to jump off from!

You have to buy a convertion kit for every single pack/wave you have
Made a couple of little error here and there, which given the length of the video is understand able.

All correct. This one was a tougher video to tackle due to how much info there is.
I would love to know what X-Wing has for us in the near future. Exiting! Let's hope we have more large and huge ships
I loved 1.0, miss it dearly
In one of the small handful of X-Wing games I have played since 2.0 came out, I did fly several Mining Guild TIEs...and, apart from being able to essentially ignore obstacles, they weren't that great, sadly. :( Can't win 'em all, I guess!

Then use the app like 99% of the players. Quick builds are meant as a showcase for new ships, not to be fair and even
Just starting so missed almost all of this. Great game.
Would it be possible for you to do a revisit of each armada wave and give your opinion on the current meta and the newer upgrades?
Did you ever do a round up of how to get started using clone wars era ?
Nice review for someone late to the play. If you have a moment do you know what TIE version is in the core set?
I’m

I wish I had gotten into Xwing when the Republic dropped but I got into around the Kwing and dropped out of it due to money and lack of group playing.
What pack gives you the bwing sfoil card?
Hotshot and aces expansion. Gives you 2 stabilized sfoil cards for the Bwing
Interesting catchup. I dropped out of touch around wave 9. Good to hear that the game is still going. Is it worth upgrading everything to 2.0 or are there still players sticking with 1.0?
I’m relatively new but really into it
I liked 1.0 but I’m glad they made 2.0
I stopped playing and collecting shorty before gen 2 was released and I've now moved on to Armada, interested to see what the game's like now
I bought a core set, y wing pack, tie advanced pack, rebel and imperial aces packs, k wing pack, tie punisher pack, and I think that was it
N1 Starfighter wasn't a reprint was it?
The fang fighter moves in 2nd edition? You sure about that?
Some do, some dont. They had defects in some of the earliest reprints that caused it to seize up
So if I wiggle it it might rotate? Mines stuck
Mine moves.
@@robertgage1086 Not the 1st edition, but like the fang fighter, there is a way to remove the excess glue and it would move just fine. Just search it on UA-cam.
Mine does as well. Was a little stuck at first, but I cleared some of the excess glue and it now rotates fine.
Is the Razor Crest from The Mandalorian coming to X-Wing?
Supposed to be. No idea when, especially after Atomic Mass took over.
Of course, Disney will milk your wallet don't worry
quit playing x wing when they switched to 2.0 ... still dont regret quitting it.
I think the new ships are better cause of the moving s foils

Can we get something like this for Armada for us noobs?
I never knew there was a K-wing... Should grab one.
Do people still play this?
I still play, it's a good game to play with my better half. She doesn't like more involved wargames and prefers board games. My local game shop has a busy X-Wing night as well.
Second
You can hear your frustration with X-Wing in your voice in this video, unfortunate
