  • In this episode, I discuss how connecting with the younger version of ourselves can help us deal with anxiety or trauma.
Our inner child sends a signal to us when we feel anxious, and we should be **grateful** for it.
When we show kindness and care to this younger version of ourselves, we can begin to feel better and *move away from anxiety*.
Lastly, I share a bit about my own experience and encourage you to connect with your inner child.

OMG!!!!! You have totally saved me so much money! I don’t remember which one of the influential people that I follow suggest your book but, I’m so grateful for this. All my tiggers came out once I had my children more strongly when I had my daughter at the age of 43. All boys before so I didn’t identify with my inner child until my duplicate came along and changed my life. And one year later my oldest child had a baby girl, and BAM. Now I have a 9 year old daughter and a 8 year old granddaughter. Thank GOD I became fully aware that I needed healing because my inner 9 year old was exposed and extremely threatened and super triggered. I am putting your book into action. I so wish that I was In CANADA cause I would be in your office. Please consider or let me know if you take online patients!!!!!!! And thank GOD for your life you are a walking vessel to peoples recovery. This is REVOLUTIONARY!!!!!!!!!

This is sooooo good! I’ve been in therapy for over 30 years and I’m just now learning about my wounded inner child. I’m going to remember her every time I’m feeling dysregulated or anxious. I didn’t get the comfort I needed when I was a kid when I was anxious but know that I can give that to myself now. Thank you!!!

My father growing up was a preacher who was abusive and extreamly religiously strickt. He also had germophobia, panic attacks and ocd. We were taught amongst other things to never have pride or you'd burn in hell. We were told to always be on gaurd because at any moment God could come back and if we have done anything wrong we'd be left behind during the mark of the beast.
Gave me a real sense of fear and never being able to think anything i do is good and that any time something horrible is going to happen. I don't believe like him anymore but those fears are packed in the body tightly.
He was an extreamly religious and fantical person. Looking back it was all very cult like.

This is very insightful. I have been away from work for about 2 months and have also started therapy with a psychologist. This makes so much sense, the psychologist started asking me questions about my childhood and fam background.
My father passed when I was 7 yo, I have 3 siblings and then my mother. My worrisome and the automatic being a caretaker now started from then. I am 52 now and still feel like I have to take care of everyone, including my staff at work. Hence, got too overwhelmed and felt paralized 2 months ago, I went to anxiety/worried loop, catastrophising, afraid, negative thinking, etc.... My alarm is right around my heart. So I will focus on it when my mind starts overthinking with negative thoughts.
    Thank you.

I cannot believe how much this resonated with me. Every word was so spot on and I know it's my healing path, excepting my inner child's fear & sadness. We are so lucky to have videos like this to help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your information and experience. 🙏😊

Do you find that as people are delving into the source of alarm and turning their attention to it, it can open a flood of physical symptoms? Perhaps like bugs that scurry in the light when you turn over a rock? I've had chestpains, headaches, muscle aches, vision problems, nausea, GI, etc. on a rotating lack of pattern parade.

Dr Kennedy, thank you so much for your valuable information. I hope next time you can give us more specific ways of following your advice. Here you say, find the child in the body, touch the place, see his or her eyes, connect with her, bring her back into belonging. I understand that, basically. But I hope you will add more specifics, about what to say, what to do, how to bring her back to belonging, how to let her know she is seen, heard, loved, and protected. All that makes sense, but I need help understanding specifically how do you do that so it's effective and really communicates?
    Many thanks.

I cannot thank you enough for these videos. They really help to ease the acute anxiety that rises is up in me from time to time and reminds me of the frozen fear I felt as a small child who felt she had to walk on egg shells to prevent my adoptive mother telling her what a pathetic spoilt, selfish, cry baby she was whenever she was upset.

First of all, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am 50 and this is more than 3 decades that I have anxiety. I tried to fight against it, thinking it was terrible. Some plant pills, meditation, sports...etc. But it is always in the background. For some time I thought it was gone but 2 years ago it exploded when I divorced. What I thought was gone came back again. The fear of being rejected and judged by others. A short therapy helped me understand that it was due to my very dysfunctional childhood. When I was 6 my father left us, he abandoned me. My mother tried to mitigate her suffering with alcohol and my life became like hell for years. I was never validated by my parents. For me, it is very difficult to meet new people, and make friends. I always think that they will judge me because I have some defects, that I cannot be loved just for what I am.
Recently I understood that I should not try silencing this anxiety or fight against it because it is trying to tell me something. Actually, fighting against my anxiety produced even more anxiety...the fear of being anxious. And I decided to stop judging myself for being anxious, to stop putting the label "bad" onto my anxiety. It is there, I must accept it. It has a purpose.
As you suggest, I tried to locate my alarm in my body. It is right in the solar plexus, above the stomach. It is hard and warm. When it is triggered, it becomes very warm and the zone starts sweating a lot (to dissipate the heat I guess). My shirt is completely wet sometimes.
Now that I have located my alarm in my body, what would you suggest?

Thanks Russell! Question - could you do a video on decision making? One of the hardest things I find is to know what to do, to make a decision. To distinguish anxiety, shame & loyalty from intuition. Both in short and long term decision making. Anxiety can cloud this so much. Sometimes I feel like my body knows and my ego does not want to accept it. Other times my body remembers trauma and it can be a false negative. Looking forward to your reply!

I did not have an abusive childhood. I developed panic disorder at 65 years old. Do you believe anyone can develop anxiety without childhood trauma? I am interested in your methods and will try them. Treating the alarm with compassion is probably good because it is a form of non-resistance.
