Fun fact: You're right, those background character conversations actually WERE recordings of random people in the street. If you re-watch the very beginning of the movie, you'll even hear Bakshi himself having conversation with some construction workers. Also, the audio in the Jewish synagogue scene is actually Bakshi's own father and uncles praying - it's pretty bittersweet knowing how much that one little clip means to him ever since they passed, he was so happy that he managed to save their voices and I'm glad he did.
Aww that's sweet and sad to read this. 😊😔.
That's something to learn about and it's sweet.
Bakshi’s Jewish background is in a lot of his films especially American Pop. He was openly Jewish at a time when people in the entertainment industry would change their last names to sound more Christian and less Eastern European.
@RDS 7 Yeah, yeah he was. 😑.
I doubt Bakshi's relatives were happy about how he portrayed jewish people...

Fact check: Max Fleischer was doing animation when Walt Disney was in high school, and his product was darker and more gritty than Disney’s.
To be fair though, Fleischer Studios did try replicating Disney's style in their later years, to mixed results.

True max fleischer was one of the first animators he wasn’t famous but in 1928 Walt Disney stole his idea and he became infamous
@@jakesvideos7841 Fleischer didn't invent animation. He was one of the early pioneers, but he didn't create the medium. Both he and Walt were influenced by Winsor McCay, so he was technically the one that got "robbed".

Fleischer post-Hays: copying Disney all the time by aiming at the kids!
It’s like the conker’s bad fur day of 70’s films.

But conker was still technically kid friendly in my opinion

But much more worse....
This movie made conkers bad fur day look like Joshua and the promised land and a few later on bakshi movies upped the rating and then some fritz is tame compared to a certain other movie later on. But oh its well deserving of the x rating.
I think I remember someone saying that the random characters having random conversations was actually hidden recordings of the voice actors. When the VA's would sit down to do their lines Bakshi was always displeased as it never sounded quite "natural". So he recorded them during their off time for actual real, natural conversations.
Genius...
Interesting, not exactly ethical questions, but very interesting.

@@sarahlilly1745 Examine it closely and pay better attention. Is it *really* kid-friendly, or does it get just close enough to be passable for children? This style of animation should make a return just to spite the current political landscape. F is for Family sorta brought it back with nudity and cursing but we need something with this level of edge. If we brought something like this back it would piss off a LOT of people. Which I think would be good.

I just saw Fritz the Cat with my family, and I agree with all of these points. While the story and characters are lacking, the social commentary is well done, and it perfectly captures the time period it came out in. It's certainly psychotic as well.
Also, funny story; My dad actually went to see this film at 8 YEARS OLD...I have no idea why my grandfather took him to see it(He doesn't even remember seeing it now) and my dad really had no idea what to make of it. The best part was when my dad and grandfather left the theater and went walking around. There was a dude behind him who said "That Fritz the Cat is a FUCKIN'N FREAK!" (Also my mom saw this at a drive in theater at 13...Don't know why my parents saw the weirdest shit as kids, lol)

Nazi Demons
A sountrack remeniscent of an Emerson, Lake and Palmer song
Prog Rock and Metal album covers as the background
Luke Skywalker as a tiny fairy for 2 seconds
Trippy Rotoscoping
PS: There are a few reasons as to why Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of The Rings should be labelled as a “Rock” cartoon
It had its roots in Rock. Ralph Bakshi was originally gonna make it an animated cartoon Rock Opera with Led Zeppelin writing the songs and music. Mick Jagger was also desperate to voice Frodo. (Although with Punk and Metal dethroning Hard Rock and Prog as the dominant Rock genres, Bakshi’s ideas may have been a tad outdated)
Almost everyone has long hair in the movie
The backgrounds look like Metal album covers
The Orcs look similar to the devil from Venom’s Welcome to Hell Album cover
Pippin sounds like Jimmy Page
Sam looks like a deformed caricature of Ringo Starr
Boromir looks like John Bonham in a Viking suit at a Halloween party
Some scenes actually sync up well with certain Classic Rock Songs. For example: With careful timing, the final battle of Helm's deep actually syncs up very well with Child in Time by Deep Purple.
And when the Orcs chant at Helms Deep on the way to battle against the red background, it syncs up well with 2 Black Sabbath songs; Black Sabbath and Children of The Grave

I remember watching fitz the cat on netflix on my moms tv at age 12. Even though i closed my eyes at the sex scenes i enjoyed the movie alot.
But can we agree that the animation itself is pretty good? Like there are so many smooth scenes
As an artist, this was actually one of my favorite movies because it’s just so obscure and i love to just talk about how weird this movie was,, actually I love the idea of the classic looking animal characters but they have their own messed up and adult lives,, it reminds me a lot of American Psycho (the book) combined with Garfield comics,, there are a lot of bits I would’ve organized differently but the animation itself and the themes were really good (never saw the sequel tho and didn’t know there even was one,)
Same, i love adult stories with anthropomorphic animals
Animation actually used to be almost exclusively aimed at adults. But once the TV came along and studios like Hannah Barbera started making very episodic and poorly animated shows, it caused the stigma that animation is just for kids to come about.
Thank you. Finally someone that knows their history.
@Myka Ruest Certainly hurt a lot of things, and not just American animation. Foreign animated movies, anime in particular, tend to do poorly here because the content is often "too violent" for children and adults assume an animation is "only for kids" so they don't see it either. Puppetry had the same problem and was originally an adult medium as well. Jim Henson sort of did that to himself though and he purportedly regretted and hated the "kids only" stigma that he created regarding puppets.
And thus, Nickelodeon and Disney came to be to save us from the inappropriate stuff. Several decades later, Cartoon Network became to be.
wasn't the flinstones for adults?
It did not fully set in until the 1980s thanks to animated licensed products
Weird thing is that some of the other female characters like Harriet the horse, Big Bertha the crow and the evil lizard woman have no tails at all.
Maybe no one got tails and it's all buttplugs?

"Why are their tails coming out of their butts?"
Artists don't know how tails work, they always look like they're coming out of the butt or the lower back.
One side: Makes it very uncomfortable
The other side: Wants to avoid that uncomfortableness entirely
Technically correct method of drawing tails on biped animals: The tail on an animal walking upright should be just above the asscrack, as it comes from the coccyx, more commonly known as the tailbone.
This was more or less me watching Utawarerumono. Many characters had tails, but the tails essentially did nothing, save for one early gag in the show.
Meanwhile, in the follow-up series, a soft reboot focusing on a new cast, called "Utawarerumono: The False Faces", the animation was handled by an entirely different studio, and they actually bothered to make the characters' tails do stuff, and add them as just another tool for the characters' expressive animations.
Here's one word: T A I L B O N E
Avatar (James Cameron) did this right. His film had humanoid aliens with their tails in the correct place.
A really easy way to draw the tail correctly is to just look at a picture of a human skeleton. The tail bone is where it should come out. There's plenty of pics that show the skin with it, so it makes it even easier!
"SIGH" saber spark lets talk about butt plugs
For all of you fact checking this. Remember actual swearing aside from "hell" and "damn", references to drug use, sexual activity, prostution and depictions of realistic practices of racism and police tatics of the period were considered cardinal sins on television and all media until the late 1990's. Yes there were animation that had stuff that had adult jokes and looked scary. Hell there were even cigarette ads on early flinstones episodes. But this was the first time an animation did all of these things and it was so blatant and open for adults.
People: Cartoons were for kids from beginning to end.
Meanwhile in Fleischer Studios: Folks I'm going down to St James Infirmary.

The animation being targeted specifically at children attitude actually comes from the rise of TV animation in the 1950s and 1960s.
I would say it was the 70s. Hell I don't like how in the 80s cartoons were made solely just for merchandise. That's why I think the 90s was a much better decade animation wise

If we're talking about adult animated movies that star talking cats I'd recommend checking out Bad Cat. I stumbled across it while looking for Fritiz the Cat and it's pretty interesting. Reminds me a lot of roadside romeo
Same here! Those Hungarian are nuts.
Yeah I remember that
9:48 This must be that cousin that Bugs Bunny doesn't want to talk about.
Iggy
Is that a canon statement? Just curious.
True
Fun fact: Ralph did record random conversation, but they were from his day to day life. The rabbi, was from his own father.
Most of bakshi’s movies either took place in New York or talked about anti Semitic themes because that’s what he knew. He was a Jewish Italian New Yorker!
There’s a channel on UA-cam that talked about the life of his animation career! And gave me a newfound love and influencer!
What's this UA-camr's channel? I'd love to check this out!!!
If Mystic Blue is talking about who I think they are, the channel itself is called “ElectricDragon505” but the person who runs and makes the content for it is called “AniMat”.
He’s been on UA-cam for about a decade so far and all of his videos take very in-depth looks into the history of animation’s biggest companies and famous animators. He also does personal reviews of animated movies and most recently, he reviewed the new “Addams Family” movie.
It's too bad it's hard to find this brand new on DVD for a decent price.
I like to collect experimental and weird animations, but I'm not paying $40 for one movie.
Hopefully this film will get rereleased onto Blu-Ray. Would actually really like that to happen.

*PRE-ORDERED* !
Thanks for the heads-up!
To others, both Fritz movies are up for pre-order on Amazon.
And also, the original 1982 Warner Home Video “Big W” VHS/Betamax release of “Fritz the Cat” is definitely and extremely hard to find, and it gets way overpriced on eBay or any other places to find an original VHS copy.
Everytime I see something kinky on the Internet I get reminded of this channel. Get this man his therapy.

He must have done some serious stuff to make him blink his pupils.
Well he did just see a gang rape right before that scene. Also never noticed that.

*Me:* Very Impressive, but does it have _Omelette au Fromage_
But can it do this?

or if you follow the lore of Dexter's laboratory omelette du fromage lol
@@KawaiiKaabii1993 Fritz would probably smoke the cheese

Ralf Bakshi is one of my favorite animators with "Fire and Ice"being one of my all time favorites. There is five parter YT series called "The History of Ralph Bakshi" that delves much deeper into the biography of the animator. A am not affiliated with the channel in any way but it was a great watch.
I'm actually so shocked I just got an ad for Kimba's Kingdom I'm screaming.

I swear this movie started a generation of furries
Nah its started in micky mouse disney lol
who directed this movie so we can storm their house lmao

oh no FUCKING DOUBT. If you havent watched already check out down the rabbit holes video on youtube on furries. Its insanely detailed and basically confirms everyones suspicions on the furry fandom and how it started. Yes it was always based on sex
Probably ancient Egypt.
The actor fir fritz the cat pasted away just this year in April, it's sad to see that man pass away. Rest in peace Skip Hinnant
13:02 why do I relate to this scene
The animation is actually pretty good considering the corners that were cut in the 60s and 70s.
But Fleischer did not come after Disney. Disney pretty much copied them and ran them (and others) out of business.
Fritz Is a masterpiece.
Yeah... anyone else watch the Game Theory video on how BATIM exposes this conspiracy?
I'm pretty sure the Fleischers' own hubris did their studio in. Yes, they did try to compete with Disney, through 'Gulliver's Travels,' but it was through the high demands of Superman that they fell apart.
I actually really like the animation and art style! Except for the weird shit like... y’know. But other than that it was really cool!
I think the reason the tails look like they are coming out of the "butts" is more to show that females are "submissive" with their tails constantly down and closer to the traditional "tail tucked, submissive position" that Society expects females to be.
Also the females were wearing skirts, so it sort of makes sense to have the tail peek out the bottom edge of the skirt.
I also noticed that when the females were without clothes that their tails would pop up and usually the female characters acted more sure of themselves at that moment their tail was in the "up position" like all the male characters were constantly at.
When you look at the crow females their tails were ALWAYS out and in positions similar to the male crows. I think that was a statement on the fact that crows, irrelevant of gender, had the same amount of "freedom" in a society that discriminates against the crows. I did notice at times certain female crows were more dominant than the males and thus her tail was usually in a "up position" in comparison to theirs.
I think the tails were deliberate, and were a commentary on the amount of "freedom" each gender had.
Seeing as the crowd are meant to portray African Americans it most likely is showing how different the gender dynamics were in black and white spaces, as Black women often had to take the lead in their households. Also the stereotypes of the angry Black woman and the Jezebel (hence the prostitution)
Huh interesting. I never noticed that. I gotta see this movie again. I haven't seen it in years.
Oh that's a fascinating point, good catch
That's pretty interesting. I thought it was just to put more emphasis on their asscheeks.
I think it’s just a movie, with basic design decisions, I don’t think they looked into it that much
Fr though, the cat girl with glasses is ADORABLE. I just want the best for herz

He was not an evil character. He was actually one of the better ones.
Nobody:
Saber: "TAILS COMING OUTA BUTTS, PUT THEM OVER THE BUTTS!
At least the tails weren’t sprouting out their backs not even touching the butts like many furry art.

@Ame Hosoda Fucking same
U mean everybody
@@HeilRay I am a furry artist and that always annoyed me. When I draw my characters, the tail is right where the butt crack begins. Too high it looks like an abnormal growth and too low it looks like they're pooping their tails.
My favorite part is how they still animatte fritz without pants
I can see that as a good design choice. The fellow would probably just shred them off anyways. Also saves the animation team from having to animate him stripping. Kinky bastards.

Bakshi also produced the second and third season of the original Spider-Man animated series. It was darker and also cut and pasted Spider Man into episodes of a Canadian series called Rocket Robin Hood ,also produced by Bakshi and Krantz Productions.
