I can confirm that the paper used for the prints in the store is amazing. I am 100% pleased with my purchase, Laurence. And this was a lovely sketchbook flip through.
I actually really loved the epsilon (the thinner version) of this sketch book with watercolor. I know it doesn't sink in like the alpha, but it goves really fun effects. My only qualm was that i couldn't use colored pencil properly because its jist so so so smooth Most of what others dislike about this sketchbook is what I enjoy about it. But, different strokes ❤
I also didn't really enjoy the zeta series!!! I do wonder if the beta is better, some people have said it's better, it has more tooth. Same thing, fine for dry media but even layering markers was pretty average. I got a lot of pilling with that too. I love the one at like 5 min where you had trouble with the tap and also the two boats spread in the snow 😊 lovely work
Maybe I’ll try another series of theirs before sweating that brand off entirely… but I really am not impressed so far. I was so sad when the tape tore the page because I loved that painting too! I need to try that style again. Thanks for watching! :)
Just found your channel and really enjoying your videos. I really like your style, im still trying to find mine. the scenery in nunavik must be very inspiring!
Dots on the paper usually means that the sizing wasn’t sprayed on effectively or that it’s started to disintegrate. Yes, watercolour paper can go “off”. But it usually takes many years for that to happen. I have a couple of watercolour and mixed media sketchbooks where that has happened on the edges. To me, it looks like it is a manufacturing issue. It’s so frustrating.
Well that would explain a lot! I found it weird that some people loved it in general, some especially for wet media, but others like me had a bad experience with it. At least now if it happens again I’ll have an idea why!
I used the zeta series Stillman sketchbook and had no problem with wet media...but I hate it for color pencils, the thickness of the paper seems to absorb the pencil marks. I'm going to try and Etchr sketchbook next.
It’s funny how we got the exact opposite experience 😂 anyway I think we can say it’s not a good all around mixed media sketchbook. I hope you have better luck with your next one!

Maybe I need to try the Alpha or Epsilon then! Maybe the Zeta wasn't made for what I wanted it to do...
