Can we talk about how clever the Dark Forest is?
How does it protect the wishing star? By convincing people they don't need it
Puss wants new lives? the cave of lost souls teaches him he should value the one he has left
Goldie wants a family? The old cabin teaches her she already has one
Perrito wants to become a therapy dog (even if he didn't plan to make it a wish)? The forest gives him examples of how to help people relax
I would have been really curious to see what path it had planned for Jack
that's so clever
plus before goldi notices the cabin is in front of her, the map says adjust your view what you seek may be right in front of you, meaning she already has a family, and kittys map just gives away what her wish is before even knowig.
I think Jack Horner would have been so stubborn, the map would have given him an illusion of having reached the wishing star earlier than the others and maybe trap him? Side note: I liked how not all of the villains were redeemable. Sometimes people really are just awful for no reason
@@naan000 agreed, sometimes people with bad attentions are aware of their wrong doings but chose to continue doing them because they don’t care, I 100% agree, I this is off topic but I think that the people who made that nextflix adaptation of Jeffery dahmer, didn’t do a good job of portraying him, it felt like they were glorifying his actions and i believe the crew didn’t go out to reach out to the affected families to see if they were okay of a tv show being made about him, which I think made lots of people upset with how the show made dahmer look like the hero or redeemable when in reality it is not (he is not). I feel like they did a good job of deciding the morale compass of which characters should be redeemable and which should not!👍 sorry for the long comment 😅

i liked that the jack villains evilness wasnt justified by a horrible backstory. was refreshing in comparison to other movies making the villains justifiable.

Having seen a villain from a game before that was associated with death and also uses dual sickles, it makes sense.
The villain legit gave me chills. And I got sad when puss’s life flashed before his eyes. This is definitely movie of the year.

The fact that Puss can have a decent sequel that deals with adult subjects with plenty of action while Shrek tries way too hard to be kid friendly says a lot.
Shrek 4 was good!! It’s mostly just the third one that sucks

The Wolf (or Death) was my favorite part of this film. The way he is introduced by his whistle and his dark dark aura and color scheme, to his very sarcastic way, yet terrifying way, of saying to Puss *"I am going to take your own life because you don't value yours"* is done exceptionally well. He is definitely one of my favorite DreamWork villains of all time. Literally, every time he was shown on screen I got goosebumps just like Puss, and the way they made him feel Fear and how that it can also fear us humans is just amazing.
The other characters were amazing as well but The Wolf (Death) is the one character that makes this movie so interesting, deep, dark, and meaningful.
Was honestly one of the freshest takes on death, though it annoyed me that it took Puss the whole movie to realize it was death.
@@terpsidance. It didn't annoy me that it took him a while to realize it was Death because he was always someone that "Laughed at the face of death" because he had 9 lives. He never valued any except when it came to his last one and when Death started to scare him. It was very good character development in my opinion because he beings to realize that having 1 life (just like ours) is what makes life so special and gives us purpose in this world.
@Joseph also keeps in mind that puss squandering his 8 lives while claiming that he "laughs at the face of death" is what made death take it personally.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting wolf to be DEATH itself, but it works perfectly as an antagonist( not a villain since he's an inevitably for all living things) that taught puss and the audience a valuable lesson.
To correct you on one thing, the wolf is not a villain. He is certainly an antagoniststic force for puss but he is not a villain. He is a force of nature that has decided to deal with a cat who had no value for his life or lives really and would rather just put him out of his misery personally. Hell you could even argue his appearance was intentional or part of a grand plan to get puss to understand the value of living your life.
I thought its gonna be another boring Shrek Movie. Until he shows up
SPOILER!
Some foreshadowing for the wolf that I *loved* was that split moment before he appears, a candle goes out, which nods to how the doctor blew out a candle in the scene prior to illustrate to Puss that he lost a life. The candle going out right before the wolf appears is visually telling the audience that Death is there now and ready to take Puss’ final life.
Loved the subtle foreshadowing details in his first scene. Like him mentioning that no one has defeated him yet, or pointing to the "death" part of puss' reward sign. Seems like just someone hyping themselves up, but end up making conplete sense when him being death is revealed.
And noticed how whenever Death showed himself, no one but Puss heard and saw him. It took me awhile to have that realization until my brother pointed that out.

What tipped me off outside of that is him suddenly appearing with two coins on his eyes. You put two coins on the eyes of the dead so they can pay the ferryman Charron for access to the underworld, or else they'll be lost forever in the river styx

when i first heard the wolfs whistle i thought it was gonna be one of those cringy things he just does to be edgy, but hearing it in later scenes literally made me shiver like it was so good

i thought the same. It's one of those things a little kid would do to sound scary. But hearing that hauntingly angelic tune , and Puss' fur stand on end .. God, it did something to me

I will agree it was surprisingly dark, even my mom agreed this movie is a lot heavier to be advertised as a family movie
I just wanted to watch it cause the trailers look tremendously beautiful then got a literal understanding the grim inevitability of death but valuing your life even more, something i really needed after understanding how miserable i felt at myself
I agree. When I watched the trailer, I initially thought the movie was going to be a typical kids movie. When I watched it, it was more than that.

I loved how the Dark Woods morphed into a representation of the map reader's psyche. When Puss and Kitty read the map it creates a goddamn Hellscape! When the dog reads the map it creates a bucolic wonderland despite, as it was pointed out, him having the darkest backstory.
It also seems to challenge the person seeking the wish. And when Perrito holds it, he gets an easy path because... he wants for nothing. He doesn't want a wish.
I do wonder what Jack's Dark Forest would have looked like. Probably the most nightmarish of all.
@@RegalRoyalWasTaken That's also why when Goldie grabs the map.. it basically immidiately takes her... to the Bears cottage. Because she already has her wish, she just hasn't quite realized it yet.
I like to think that a large part of that is because the map recognises they are with Perrito. Perrito having the only feasible way to the star forces them to stay together which grants all their wishes.
For everytime an animated movie based on fairytales came out around the same year and had themes about death, I'd have two nickels by now

I usually hate dubs, but the spanish dub of this movie is gold, all the important characters have different accents and actually have lines written specifically to sound like they are actually from the country their accent is from.
Note: Goldilocks’ an the bears’ Spanish voice is the best.
Same with the Hungarian dub. I love her "parasztos" accent.
Same with Bulgarian. Goldilocks and the bears talk like bulgarian hillbillies.

Polish is very good as well. The guy who voices him in Polish even has a Kat in the name and he was his always his voice here.
Dreamworks out did themselves with this movie. Puss’s spiritual development, people dying horribly, actual cursing, and The wolf being Death?! This movie is beyond what I expected and I’m glad me and my girlfriend watched it. Top 10 for me fam.😁💖👍🏽🐈👢
Agree 100%. I saw people saying it was good, so I went into it expecting something good and was still surprised.
IMDb’s score is slander, we must go raise the number. 7.7 out of 10 is too low.

@@t-army4196 WDYM Puss is a very popular character ever since Shrek 2. It’s the reason he got his own movies.
I do agree with you about the panic attack scene when puss keeps running away from death. I loved the part when perrito is comforting puss because my family and have a dog and it was so adorable. You don't see that a lot in animated movies
A detail I don’t know was intentional or not was Perrito naturally assuming his therapy role by letting Puss lead. In the beginning, Perrito insisted Puss rub his belly and Perrito kept pushing him to do so, even when not required.
In Puss’s moment of panic though, Perrito stayed quiet, rested his presence lightly near Puss, and let the cat find a rhythm and settle down on his own. They then stayed quiet for a while and calmly discussed what had happened.
It’s one of the ways someone can easily tell a well trained service-type dog over a non trained dog. The former will be alert, calm, and in tune with their person’s needs. The latter will be undisciplined, normally distracted, and not well trained.

I understand why people may say the ending was a bit tacky for showing Far Far Away. But for me, the ending with Puss, Kitty & Perrito going to Far Far Away still makes sense for the story as Puss’ journey/arc throughout the movie was about valuing his last life with the people he loves and cares about. So, him potentially introducing his new friends to his old ones and having the whole package makes sense and adds what he learned. But that's just my interpretation.
I did always wonder how Puss’s movie fit in with the Shrek movies. I always assumed the first one was before he was in Far Far Away since he’s on the rouge/bandit sort of side, and assumed this was all before Shrek as well until his first “life flashing” scene.
I do like your theory that he left Shrek and company without much of a goodbye, and is now making amends so he can bring everything together. Would be cool to see Fiona and Kitty meet up, and Donkey is for sure going to get Doggie (can’t remember his Spanish name right now 😅) in a lot of fun trouble.
Only character I would want to see is Puss’s mama (can’t remember her name either) and get some type of closure on his Netflix series. He had a fling with Dulcinea and the ending had the two riding off together. So did she die along the way? Did they split up? Curious minds want to know 🤔
@@jendoe9436 It has been confirmed that Puss in Boots 1 takes place before he meets Shrek & Donkey (since it's his origin) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek: Forever After (as evident of gingy, pinocchio & the memory). But yeah, everything with Puss' story coming full circle would be cool.

Kinda thought the last shot still worked with the “cherishing what and those you have” so him visiting shrek and his family one more time (debt free) was nice. Although I was confused why he didn’t think about bringing back Humpty Dumpty at all

I think Humpty had his story wrapped up in the first movie.
Because bringing back Humpty Dumpty would be defeating the purpose of valuing the one life you have. Humpty already had his one life. Bringing him back would be cheating death and only anger Death himself. Regardless of that, Humpty is at peace and rest after he died. He went to live where he felt like he always belonged, with the golden goose and mother. When he cracked he became a golden egg. So bringing him back is robbing him of that peace.
What I am confused about is why Humpty didn't appear in his flashback considering they saw each other as brothers but aside from that it makes sense
I was kinda disappointed Humpty Dumpty never gotten mentioned once almost like he was an afterthought. Considering he played a *huge* part in Puss in Boots early life!
John Mulaney took a little getting used to as Big Jack, especially if you’re familiar with his other voiceover work. He’s usually cast as a smaller, timid, and socially awkward characters. But as the story carries on, it just works. His voice and performance perfectly embodies someone who got far bigger than they were supposed to- both physically and metaphorically. Jack doesn’t get to hold the map at all until the end, so the addition of Gemini cricket next to Jack to help flesh out the character and his conscious was brilliant and doesn’t get mentioned enough. Just amazing all around film
Mulaney’s comedy is known for being super unhinged and over-the-top, so having him voice a character that embodies those exact two traits is a recipe for perfection. He came completely out of left field and I only noticed when my brother told me. Best part of the movie imo
"Miscast" my ass, he was perfect, hah! Personal preference though, I get it.

The fact that Perrito probably knew all those curse words from people who have said it to him and he remembers them all and parroted it back to the Bear Fam and Goldi.
I have no doubt that is the case considering both his backstory and how painfully innocent he is
I went on 15 dec at Avatar, on 17 I went at Puss in Boots. I liked it so much more. I was kinda dissapointed by how few people were in the cinema, but it was a late evening subtitled (I'm romanian and here most animated movies get dubbed) projection so there were no kids, only us, the animation lovers. I cryed at the end

The way the cricket considered the last piece of the map as it's resigmation letter to Big Jack was a really smart move😁
Jack was just the best villain. He even has a “conscience” cricket who tries the typical Hollywood trope of humanizing the bad guy but Jack was like “I grew up rich, I had too much money, and I took over my family pie enterprise. It was horrible.”

Which may or may not remind you of certain company. One starts with the letter D
There’s also the fact that in the film after he leaves retirement, he is still able to fight and dodge his opponents attacks, despite the fact that he hasn’t been in combat for some time (give or take a year or 2). There’s also the fact that he’s able to fight Death with his sword when for the most part he hasn’t had access to his sword nor touched one in a year. Shows that despite the time gap, Puss is still skilled as ever. Even becoming more deadly when he dual wields his sword and Catito blade against Death. Heck he even managed to beat Mama and Baby bear with a stick.
Really shows that despite his lack of training or participation in fights during his retirement, his skills are still there in his manos. All 4 of them. This is why no one despite their skills, weapons and trickery will ever be able to beat the Legend, the Stabby Tabby, el Macho Cato, PUSS in boots.
Puss was out of action for a few months, it wasn't actually a year. Also, the reason that Death could overpower Puss so easily is that Death obviously has supernatural capabilities and knew every move that Puss would make. Puss wasn't fighting for his life, he was fighting for his legend, thus Death had minimal problems with engaging Puss. It isn't until Puss properly values and fights for his life that Death begins to struggle with fighting Puss, losing his ability to see Puss' attacks in advance. This implies that Puss is more skilled than Death itself.
@@stormichow5325 I think it's more than that. Death perceived that Puss was STILL the same, selfish cat, not realizing he would reach out for a little help from others. Indeed, he had a little help on hand, quite literally, with Kitty's spare knife!

What I love most about Goldielocks’s story is that once she reveals what her wish was (which I expected it to be something not great, since she wouldn’t tell the others), Mama Bear immediately reacts with unconditional love. She’s hurting, but she rallies them up to help her daughter because she loves her. It’s just an immediate showing that Goldie already *has* her family. As someone who grew up with a broken home, that immediate showing just really hit home.
I love that the Death Wolf represents all three basic fears: natural fear, fear of something we can see and comprehend. Unnatural fear, things that are supernatural. And unknown fear, that fear of "something bad is going to happen but I don't know what, I don't know what this is, I can't see it, can't fight it." and it makes ABSOLUTE sense for him to represent these fears, given you know...HE'S DEATH. Also also I love that people are saying that his whistle could both be the Funeral March and Silent Night. Works in both ways.
his whistle is in 8 notes and the last one is unfinished because it represents puss is on his last life. pretty sure the makers of the film intentionally did it like this just to add extra detail and because of how errie it sounds aswell
I watched this movie a few days ago in theaters, and I have to say that almost every moment I was going CRAZY over all the animation, and effects, and fight scenes. I love that sort of stuff. I can definitely say that this is by far the best movie I have seen this year.

I was genuinely SHOCKED how good the film was. Every scene with the wolf I was on the edge of my seat. I was legit scared whenever that whistle started playing. Everything related to Goldilocks as well was so good I teared up twice. And the dog’s backstory, holy fuck that was dark. Couldn’t believe what they got away with in a PG movie.
I mean if The Incredibles got away with attempted suicide & affairs and also HTTYD 2 got away with dragon killing mc’s father on-screen then this is the

Also Kitty is such a good disabled character. She’s declawed and most likely in chronic pain from it. Her disability is more invisible so she tends to go under the radar as one.
I remember in the first movie it showed off the impacts of her being declawed by her not being able to grab on to things, so she falls off something that almost costs her life
@@alyssabullock6421 I also love that they don’t treat Kitty as less than, weaker or pitty her because of her disability. Also the second movie didn’t go with the trope of the disabled character gets ‘cured’ trope. They actually made her wish not even touch anywhere close to that trope.
I personally love Goldie and the youngest bear's brother and sister dynamic, cause it personally reminded my brother and I.
In my opinion this is maybe the best animated movie that came out like last 10 years.. I'm 20 and i never was so hyped watching a final fight like i was when I watched this
Facts this movie was special
honestly top 3 movies made in this decade would prob be puss in boots, the new Pinocchio, and the spider verse. literally nothing else comes close because of how good these movies are and it just shows how boring and predictable the stories have become in newer animated movies
WARNING: LONG THEORY
I actually have a theory, that the reason Puss was going on solo adventures at the beginning of the movie is because he also did a "leave at the altar" to Shrek and company lol.
During Shrek movie 4, Puss had gotten used to a peaceful home life with Shrek and company, and even if Shrek didn't tell him about his fat version (Since the experience was quite traumatic for Shrek), Puss probably realized one day, that even he didn't go on legendary adventures he was pretty happy with that lifestyle, and that probably scared him so much that he left the group without saying goodbye XD, since the main reason he left Kitty at the altar (T_T) was because he really loved Kitty so much that he saw sharing his life with her to the point of abandoning his life as a lonely hero, and that was what really scared him, that's why he abandoned her without saying goodbye...
But he and Kitty are very similar, and Kitty already knew him enough to notice the "clues", besides that she also has confidence issues and paranoia, when she noticed what Puss was going to do, instead of confronting him and calm him down (As a mentally healthy person would do), she also abandoned him without say a word LOL (Even Puss didn't know he was abandoned at the altar too lmao) so she could avoid that abandonment (Both are very alike in that sense, that's why Perrito is so good for both
Yes, about that, I remember hearing in the interviews when the first trailer came out that they wanted to remake the franchise in this style? could be wrong, but also this movie could be a new universe with some differences from the canon that allows them to make more movies, idk, good theory anyway :] 👌.
I've got a different theory that I wrote about in another comment, but I think it fits better here. Remember that Puss left Santa Coloma since he felt fear for the first time. With the movie's theme, most people would think it's Puss not living to the legend that caused him to do that, but I would say it's deeper. He knew that he wasn't ready to build a new family with Kitty and that he would be abandoning a lot of the joys in life by committing to a family. Now that he's learned the opposite and he knows Shrek has dealt with all the family troubles already, he would want Shrek's counsel on how he can deal with building that relationship. And honestly, I would LOVE to see that Puss and Shrek films would put family struggles as a central theme (again).
@@b1tch-user I think they were referring to making movies from the world of Shrek again, because Antonio Banderas made a video that explained the chronology of the Puss in boots movies in Shrek movies (Which by the way, is this: Puss in boots 1 -> Shrek 1 - > Shrek 2 -> Shrek 3 -> Shrek 4 -> Puss in boots 2).

Puss in boots made only 3 MILLION DOLLARS out of its 90 MILLION BUDGET IN AMERICA. I was the only one in the theatre other than a few kids. I'm so fucking tired of people calling everything animated a kids movie. And of course, Avatar takes away all the attention, making dreamworks more vulnerable for bankruptcy. Puss in boots was released in sweden and it only made 300 DOLLARS. THATS RIGHT. 300 DOLLARS. It's so disgusting how stereotypes of art forms and genres of movies are just completely looked away from and never get the spotlight. Have you seen animated movies from france? Probably not. Japan? Maybe once, if you're not into anime stuff. The world should be putting attention to movies that deserve it. Not the pretty blue people that swim in water.
Edit: I'm glad that it's doing way better, over 300 million now, but it probably broke just even compared to the advertising that probably cost it. Especially with the theatre performances costs. I hope it reaches 400-500 million.
We live in a unfair world. People don't take me seriously when I talk about Ghibli films. They assume that it's just for kids. When I recommend them "Princess Mononoke" ( my favorite Ghibli film) they think it's just some Disney-like crap, because of the word "princess".

I'd choose animated movies over "normal" ones every day, especially the Dreamworks treasures like Spirit, HTTYD or The Last Wish. They are amazing. Visually, beautiful. Music, beautiful. Story, beautiful.

I started tearing up at Puss's panic attack scene. Just the way Perrito looks at him, then settles his head on Puss and sits with him. I have a Chihuahua, and that just got me in the feels because that's what she does when I have a bad day- she's just there with me

I was extremely plessently suprised by this. The animation is amazing, the Wolf is amazing, and Perito, the tiny pure good boy, saying roast so hard they had to be censored is amazing.
I actually think Perrito knows of how horrible his situation is. He doesn't act surprised when Kitty and Puss are horrified by his story, and doesn't ask why they are are acting that way. I think he *knows* that horror is the usual and correct way to react to his story, but he himself has chosen to not see it that way.
He has faced so much death and suffered so much abuse that he has chosen to accept it as a part of himself, and move on. He has had no choice but to be happy with all of himself. He's not tragically ignorant, but extremely emotionally intelligent and mature.
I find this solidified at the end of the movie when he chooses to keep Perrito as his name, despite it being a placeholder (btw, it just means "little dog", his name is literally dog XD). He had said before that he doesn't really have any sort of wish he would make, and at first I thought it was just a humble and childish statement like it usually is in kids movies, but when he accepted his old name because his friends know it as him, he showed that after meeting death and LIVING, that he is happy to be alive and with family. He has the emotional intelligence and knowledge that Puss needs and has by the end of the movie. He says he wants to be a therapy dog some day, but her ALREADY IS a therapy dog.

I’ve seen the movie twice and it’s still a masterpiece. The story and writing is incredibly well done here, it’s emotional, entertaining, dark, funny at times. The character arcs are great also. The animation tone shifts work here the colors and score are just 🤌🏼. It’s just a masterpiece of a film in so many ways.
That part where the doggy laid his head on Puss while Puss was having a panic attack broke me

Jack Horner is an example of how to make a static character done correctly!
By the time Puss passes away in peace, it would be like that story from Harry Potter deathly hallows story when the owner of the invisibility cloak accepted his fate and Death greeted him as equals.

I remember loving the original as a kid, and while I didn't expect this one to live up to my expectations, I was still excited. The fact that it was WAY better than I expected, and actually really good, is so exciting. The humor landed, the animation was great, all the storylines were interesting, the wolf was effectively scary and funny, I loved this movie. And the animation!
I had no idea how good this was going to be. Thanks to this video I found that that John Mulaney was in the cast. English is my second language and I usually like to watch movies in the original language there in, but for some reason Dreamworks’s movies in the Latin American Spanish dub are just so much funnier for me and I feel like they casted everyone perfectly there. Antonio Banderas also has always done Puss in Spanish too. Perrito and Death were by far the biggest surprise for me and I don’t remember the last time I watched a movie that gave me goosebumps. That whistle man….
Now that we're talking about the Latin American Spanish sub, over the last decade or so there's an attempt to dub everything in "standardized Spanish", avoiding country-specific words and expressions. In this one, they turned the accents and expressions to 11; we had dialects from Spain, from Mexico, Goldilocks and the bears had the most Argentinian accent possible. That was such a delight! It felt like a big middle finger to standardized dubs and to showcase/celebrate the different breeds of Spanish.

We apparently used to have some of the best dubs in Europe. Nowadays it's absolutely atrocious. Always the same people over and over again with no passion put into it, miscast people that sound nothing alike- Ducktales 2017 Fenton, voiced by Lin Manuel Miranda, was completely off even though I KNOW there's someone who sounds EXACTLY like him, as I saw him once in an interview months prior to me watching it.
They litteral turned the comedy and fairy tail objects into dank memes and it was straight up HAILARIOUS.
FINALLY a fantastic animated movie!!! I was blown away by the quality of this film, not just the gorgeous animation, but the story and CHARACTERS. I never thought I'd be relating so heavily to Puss ❤🥺
I love how well Death's interactions with Puss stands with both the foresight of just being an obsessive bounty hunter and with the hindsight given to us during the reveal of who he is. On top of that, I also like that Puss didn't defeat him in the end. He was just let off the hook after showing that he did infact change, that he could be more than some Arrogant Immortal Legend.

I hope that if Puss and his gang are in Shrek 5, we will get to see Donkey and Perro interact, because both of them had a very sad backstories (we don't know a great deal about Donkey's past, but from what little we have, it's obvious that meeting Shrek was the best thing to ever happen to him).

Saw this in theatre with my brother and at the panic attack scene some kid asked, "mummy, what's wrong with him?" 😭 that'll be a conversation for the car ride home
Jack Horner was the biggest surprise of the film for me. He was so unnecessarily evil for no reason and it was the funniest thing ever.
Gave it a watch and it is my number one. I was hesitant from the trailers and went in skeptical, but in the middle of it all I had tears. They did so good with not only animation, but the story and characters; definitely a huge favorite I did not expect for the end of this year.
One thing I loved is how the map and the Dark Forest changed depending on the personality of whoever was holding it. Someone needs to take screenshots of when Puss, Softpaws, Purrito, and Goldie held the map.
I have to see this movie! I’ve heard so many great things about it!
I have the strong feeling that Jack Horner represented what the characters could become once they got their wishes. They're going to get what they want, but in the end, they'll only want more.
Meanwhile, Jack Horner had everything those characters wanted in life. Loving parents, a healthy upbringing, a mansion, and the pie enterprise to inherit. None of that was remotely enough.
Some insights from me:
- Absolutely loved the visuals. The fact that some parts of the textures and stuff looked like oil painting, you could literally see the brushstrokes. Amazing! Just elevated this as the piece of art that it was.
- Absolutely loved Perrito. He's difinitely the Forrest Gump among the dogs. Just like you, I thought he would be mostly annoying, but no, he's absolutely adorable. Just the therapy dog you would wish for.
- Absolutely loved the idea with the paths through the forest adapting to the person holding the map, and the objects in the forest adapting to how you're treating them. Such a perfect visualization of how our perception changes the reality we have to deal with.
- As I saw this movie in German, I must say the guy they got as Jack Horner's German voice was spot on. I wondered the whole movie if they had taken the man I had in mind, since he would have been the perfect fit and yes, the voice sounded like him, and bam! end credits, and it was him! (The name's Oliver Kalkofe, just in case you're interested)
- The only thing I would kind of complain about was the "big revelation" that the wolf was literally death. I just was like "no shit, Sherlock! Wasn't that clear from his first appearence?"
I agree about the death thing, but you got to remember there are a lot of kids and goofy adults watching this movie. It was clear from the first scene he was death to me, and clearly to you, but there were people in this very comments section who were surprised by that reveal.

I actually saw a comment about this. They said it could be Puss in Denial. Ya know, Death kept repeating himself about it to Puss, I mean he wasn't being subtle. He WANTED Puss to know. But Puss didn't want to know. So Death had to keep telling Puss until he gets it. Ever tried telling someone an obvious fact that a person just wants to ignore or won't acknowledge? Its like that.

Just watched it today and I loved it. The introduction of death was so good it took me from expecting it to being mediocre to immediately grabbing my attention
Mr. Wolf is definitely going to get more fan art. Manifestations of death are often lumped together, so the characters themselves get less fan art while people focus on making art of the concept. Same thing with characters like Santa Claus, the easter bunny, etc.

I love how they played with the spiderverse style of animation really makes me happy as an animator to see the industry adapt and try new things
I love this new animation art style that Dreamworks had been doing with The Bad Guys and now Puss in Boots 2. If Kung Fu Panda 4 has a similar style, that would be incredible.
The Shrek one was actually a mid-credits scene. If you remember it start right after the title comes up, only they didn't want people not seeing it, by leaving right after the credit starts.
The movie is a 10, it's practically flawless and I can't wait to go see it again!

I just came back after seeing it with my dad and little brother and the movie was way better than I thought! I love the visuals, Antonio and Salma’s chemistry, etc. Death was a really good villain and he was actually very scary. I also love the message in the movie. “Be grateful for what you already have.” Too many times people always wish for more in life but why? You already have everything! Instead of envying others for what you don’t have, try being grateful for what you do have. Gratitude is the best medicine. Another great moral was we all have one life, it’s up to us to decide how we’re going to live it. If you haven’t seen this movie, Please do, It’s fantastic. And you might actually learn something! 10/10, would watch again!!
The fact that the Wolf was straight up death in himself and dealt with mature matters explored with the great characters, animated gorgeously made this movie an easy 10/10 for me, not to mention that death whistle was genuinely terrifying
I definitely agree with you, the fact that like every single moment is amazing (even the funny parts) and the animations are just so cool and amazing! But the whistling just makes me feel like something is near me, and you get that eerie vibe
Funny how the 2º sequel of a franchise that DreamWorks makes is often the besty movie, ever.
That's why I have high hopes for "The bad guys 2".
The main things that bothered me about the original:
1. The aesthetic is just BROWN.
2. Humpty sucked.
3. The villains are unmemorable.
The sequel fixes all of these, effectively making the first movie obsolete (It's okay to still like it, though).

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears were definitely my favorite characters. Humor, heart, and they give eachother a hard time every so often, they were a real family.

Loved the movie. I thought Kitty was going to get her own introspection when she got the map. I totally thought she could have lied to Puss to try and patch up the relationship sooner. Going through her own environment could have revealed her own hidden emotions, but I think the writers decided they didn't have enough time or space for that and passed up on it. Other than that I thought it was amazing.
The fight scenes were a highlight for me.

John Mulaney has a joke where he refers to himself as an overgrown child rather than an adult, and I think that fits Jack Horner's character very well
Opinion with spoilers.
Okay so my father and I went to see Avatar 2. And after joking like "Imagine if there's only one place left", there actually was only one place left.
So I let him have it since clearly he's the one who wanted to see the movie the most. I mean he's the one who kept talking about it and who decided that we would go watch this together.
But even though he wanted to see that movie a lot more than I did, I was extremely disappointed that we didn't get to watch the movie together.
So I just decided to watch Puss In Boots 2, as not many stuff that aired interested me. And I thought that it would be that kind of annoying kid movie with cliche morals and a cliche story.
Needless to say, I was mindblown when the movie actually started, and now I don't regret anything at all. It was just incredible !
I mean I didn't realize how dark this movie was until one of Jack's men gets eaten by a plant and dies on the spot, leaving its skeleton behind. I jumped when that happened.
My favorite character is Goldie Locks. Her relationship with her family and character development is just so sweet.
And I love the subtle hints at what a character is, or what a character thinks before the big reveal.
Example. Death. With his big black cape and the themes of the movie, I supposed when he was introduced that he is Death. But Puss said he's a bounty hunter so I brushed it off.
Except I was right !
And soon after they enter the forest, the bears ask Goldie Locks what her wish is. And I wasn't sure, but I felt like she was hiding something with the way she didn't answer the question.
And I was right ! These subtle hints are good character design, and I loved them.
I went to watch this movie with no expectations, so obviously they've been blown away to an astronomical degree.
I haven't liked a movie this much in a long, long time. I definitly recommand.

I only watched this movie cause I was taking my kid, but man was I impressed! I didn’t see the other puss and boots so I had no expectations but um! I was not expecting it to be that good!
My fav scene is also the part where Perrito calm Puss down. The feeling was there, right at that moment like holy shit!

The godly amount of effort put into this movie was such an improvement over the first movie. It's honestly beautiful. I always liked Puss since Shrek 2 and this gives me hope and happiness.
Dreamworks have had a quality dip recently, but if we look at their backlog, they're THE animation studio that still produces for all ages movies. From Kung-fu Panda, to Simbad, to Megamind. I'm 30, went with my mother, and a great time was had. That's how for all ages this was.
This movie took 10 years of production and it shows. Give writers and animators proper time to develop their ideas, characters, plots and art in full potential. It's worth it ❤
Just saw it today. Absolutely loved it. One of the best movies of the year. Not only is it visually exciting, the themes are so good too. You could sit and think on the events of the film and come away inspired. Damn. I do hope it makes several times it's budget.
