Yes, they do write with the help of their grandkids for the modern slang. Bas is a professional musician and songwriter by trade. This is very easy for him. He was also a music teacher for a bit. He plays the piano, sax, the trumpet, accordion, and several other instruments. His true niche is JAZZ. that is why his flow is so smooth. It is like a saxophone solo! It is also the reason Bas has great breath control. Even if they did not write it, they have a HUGE say in what goes into the song, especially with Pete. They have been doing this since 2017. Don't forget Londoners have been using Cockney rhyming slang since mid 19th century - it is not a huge leap from that, to rapping! Here's a quote on history of rhyming slang: "That tradition is thought to have started in the mid-19th century as code by which either criminals confused the police, or salesmen compared notes with each other beyond the understanding of their customers". So this kind of rhythm is in old Londoners' DNA!

Sometimes I think that rappers forget that "rappers" did not invent rhyming. Humans have been writing poetry since the dawn of time and rap comes from poetry. Anyone who's taken a literature class or spent time writing poetry could figure out how to write raps since they follow all the same rules when it comes to meter, syllables, and rhymes. I just think the incredulity some people react to Pete & Bas with kinda humorous. Like "How could they possible know how to write rhymes? I'm sure they're well read in the great works of literature/great writers and poets of all time, and I'm damn sure they were much better educated and are extremely literate compared to what gets churned out by public school systems these days. They're also not strangers to the music world so all they really would need help with is modern terms and slang. I don't understand why it's such an issue to believe two guys who have a 40+ year advantage with use of language over most rappers when they start out can write lyrics at this level. I find it harder to believe that a 20-25-year-old with very little life experience can bar up as well as someone who has a better grasp of language and decades more life experience. Why because they're young? The phrase: young, dumb and full of cum was coined for a reason. I'm 52 years old and have been listening to hip hop since the early 80s, I can run circles around most reactors when it comes down to breaking down bars. I mean, its not that hard if you know their background a little more. One of them is, or at least was, an english teacher.
I would agree with you Anthony... in the sense that this is all way too polished to be organic. They clearly have talented people behind them... and seeing that many "legit" and "young" rappers use ghost writers, I doubt they are elderly urban poets. That said, they can clearly spit even if they probably aren't writing it all themselves.
Worth checking out nine and dex's track that is out now (Their Grandsons)
I’ve seen them live in London can tell you now they ain’t mining. What you see is what you get
Why is it likely they did not write it? I think it's more likely they do. Who's going to write lyrics so fire and give it to a couple of geezers? Now that makes no sense.
Nine and Dex - Pecan pie.
Nine and Dex are the writers.
People write for Kanye and Drake, not for Pete and Bas.
ghostwriting would be difficult with their "old people pronunciation" especially with these rhyme schemes.
Their reference are way too og they definitely write it themselves and btw why would anyone give out this certified hits in the first place tbh
They write it
them and their grandsons do it
Come on man, u know it’s real it’s the fucking UK for fuck sake
You also have to ask yourself if a young guy would say the things they say. Probably not, the lingo is old school. Do "The sideboard song" Chas and Dave, been rapping years back.
I live in London ,they are real ,yes day do write ✍ it them self .🇬🇧✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔
Don't forget Bone Thugz
They write their own lyrics bro do the research on them they really about that gangster life.
Bro is just disrespectful. They write it themselves
