All these hate, wow. At first, it looked awful. But this awkwardness also means that they don't know the winner until the presenter opens the envelop. Anyways, I accept the explanation and think Michelle is very thoughtful to hand it to Jennifer to give the Oscar to Emma.

I saw a lot of comments asking about Sally pulling on Jen, so I watched the moment again and from what I can tell I think Sally just knew they were supposed to hit another mark after presenting the award and was confused/worried when Jen started moving in the opposite direction from how they were instructed to. After the improvised moment they all stand out of frame of the close up camera on Emma, so I think Sally was trying to look out for Jen to help remind her where they were supposed to stand and just didn’t realize what was happening. But that’s just my interpretation of the situation, no disrespect intended to anyone else’s✌🏻

Well I think Emma knows who she’s getting award from, but they’re not friends. They are just both in the film industry. It’s normal to just nod to show kindness. I’m not a fan of Emma stone, it’s just that it’s not a big deal to see they weren’t hugging or kissing cheeks.

Why is everyone making such a big deal out of this…? I am Asian and it seems like Michelle didn’t hand over the thing to Emma soon and Emma seemed confused when Michelle pass that over. and it got awkward and jenn resolved it…
I didn’t think it was awkward because I understood what Michelle was trying to do. What made it awkward was the moment Sally was pulling Jennifer. I think it’s because she didn’t understand but it doesn’t take away from the moment.
I noticed that too when I was watching, but now that I think about it, I think Sally was just trying to get Emma to the mic ASAP because she knows they only have 45 seconds.
If you notice after she hugs Jennifer, Sally gives Emma a quick hug and then gets out of the way. I don’t think it was ill intent at all, I think she was just stressin for Emma.

Actually watched the whole thing. I think it's because so many presenters were on there and the winner is most likely dazed she wont exactly know what to do, except look to the most familiar faces. I think this one is very different from RDJ.

Huh? This was hilarious! It wasn’t that awkward, if at all. And she was shocked by the award. She’s only human after all. Fixating on her dress breaking makes sense as she went up to get her award on stage where millions are watching.

There were clearly some weird organisational issues. I bet the organiser hadn't done it before and wanted to do something new without really thinking about it.
Look at how they handled best picture, showing clips all throughout the ceremony, so they don't bother announcing them at the end... but then not only does it make the whole thing take longer, but the best picture announcement becomes more clunky.
Even Just the idea of getting 4 previous winners to introduce a nominee one at a time; it makes it much longer than it needs to be.

I know these celebrities deserve and want to be recognized and awarded for their hard work, but these award shows are overrated. They need to stop airing them all together. They wouldn't have to worry about awkwardness, missteps, fumbling names, leaving people out of memoriam, drab hosts making disrespectful jokes, comments. I stopped watching all awards shows 30 years ago. It's the same people, same nothingness. Trash 😮
