What beach? I've only been to twin Harbors. Went yesterday, it was so lovely! Except fot all the broken clams people discarded😠 I collected several and put them in my limit. Just don't understand why people throw them away. They taste the same. We went surf perch fishing afterwards, so much fun! Great video as always and beautiful morning.
Haven't harvested them in a few years, but fresh razer clam chowder is my favorite. Fried is great too. Squid when we have a good year is another easier harvest that is always fun.
I checked this off my bucket list this year. I have been traveling out there for the last 3 digs from Republic WA. Can't get enough easy limits every time on every beach. I fished for surf perch every day using clam necks. I had mixed results catching 7 one day probably missing at least 20 bites in the process. My take on it was to catch them you need to set the hook like a Steelheader on performance-enhancing drugs ( you have to be quick). My wife and I cooked them in our room. They are maybe the tastiest fish I have ever eaten. They taste just like Razor clams to us but not at all chewy. I would be curious if anyone else shares my opinion on the taste? The biggest downside of the clamming is also the upside. It only took me and my wife about 30 minutes to limit out I wish it took longer. Walking back to the vehicle and seeing all of the clam shows along the way was hard. Great time can't wait till fall. Thanks for this video!
I have a place in Grayland & went out there yesterday & today. Quick easy limits.. The REAL WORK starts when cleaning the clams . The most inefficient use of water 💦 that there is 😂. Great video. Thank you for sharing..
My wife and I did that years ago and really would like to go and do it again! Really want to take the two new grandboys over and just have a good time. I would love it if you would do a video of how you prepare them.
It wasn't this was almost a full month before the Oregon coast outbreak PSP outbreak and as I said in the video WA state does a much better job of testing than Oregon does.
I went razor clamming about 5 years ago in the Grayland area. It was a wintertime dig, right around New Years. It was raining and about 34 degrees. I was sweating my butt off digging for the clams, but I don’t think my hands have ever been colder. That aluminum tube, rain, and cold. There were 10 of us digging, and we all got limits. We spent hours the next day cleaning them. We also did a little crabbing with the clam guts (the BEST bait for Dungeness). We had an amazing dinner in the campground with deep fried clams and fresh Dungeness crab. The rain and cold didn’t matter. The Washington beaches are amazing. It was my first razor clam dig. We planned to go again the next year, but the season was closed due to toxins. Oh, and we were out there late at night, wearing headlamps in the darkness. It was a cool experience.
I haven't done this in years either. Last time was about 20 years ago down near Ocean Shores. After about 2 pulls of the clam gun I quickly jumped down, put my arm in the hole down to my shoulder, grabbed ahold of the clam before it could dig any further and pulled the sucker out. I just got tired of all the digging. 3 or 4 digs of the clam gun was too much for me. First time I dug was back in the early 60's at Long Beach. We used clam shovels back then. It's always a fun day.
Good stuff. Saw you over there. Said hello morn of what I assume was your second dig. Didn’t want to hold you up so just said morning and went about my business of heading to the beach. Good to kind of meet ya. :)
Oh one of my favorites! Yum 😋 We’ve clammed in both OR and WA and WA has the best razor clams. They are huge and we usually catch limits within 30 mins. Crazy.
I'll be fishing surf perch tomorrow afternoon right before high slack! Hopefully I'll see you out there! It's a big beach haha but I'm pretty sure I can put you on some fish!
That's crazy! I have no doubt you threw the woodwork at them as well! When you dig tomorrow at low tide, pin a couple of nice sandbars when you're driving along the beach and target those areas at high slack if possible. Also, one of my favorite ways to catch them is off the jetty! Not perfect with the north wind tomorrow, but still really fun and a great way to target deeper water if they aren't running shallow
@ncalais09 went fishing after our dig yesterday, tried clam necks and fresh sand shrimp (dug some of those too). Not even a nibble. Switched to Berkley gulp worms, first bite in 2 minutes!! PB surf perch, 14", 1 lb 8 oz, within another 5 minutes! Caught a few more after that and then headed home.

Razors are so much fun. And wow, there were a lot of shows...go to 14:10 (about 10-o'clock) and you'll see one sticking its neck out as he walks by.

Dad never let me go on to the next clam until I filled in my hole...no matter what kind of clam we were digging.

Nice video, we have razor clams here in New England, a different clam but great eating. Here people salt the holes.
Very well done video! Nice!

Great video. Thank you for sharing..
Clam chowder?
Yes but my favorite is clam linguine
Yes, canned is good. I once lost some frozen salmon to a freezer power outage. Deterioated underground lines😢.
Exactly plus it’s super convenient for chowders and pasta
Win, place or SHOW! Nothing tastier.
Never tried this but I really want to.

Awesome! Did I hear you say surf fishing? Hope you get more than just a few surf perch.
I got zero surf perch for 5 hours of fishing. It was slow.
What's your take on the closures on the Pacific coast which have come out since your trip? Hope your catch was not affected!

Can you do a video how you can them? Would love to learn since we few trips a year.
Ohhhh found your video online 😂, thanks
Now time to head to the jetty for some rockfish.
I've never found the Columbia River jetty to be great for rockfish

My mouth has been watering for the whole episode!

I fished high slack and low slack both days from Cape D to Ocean Park. One bite was it

Forgot to ask, were you using your fresh clam necks for bait?
