- Led Zeppelin performed at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville, FL, on August 24, 1969. I got backstage to meet them and told them about the up and coming Rock Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Great story, Steve! In 1977, my dad was transferred from New York to Jacksonville. So, we lived in Jacksonville for about a year and then moved back to New York. But, I still have very fond memories of the concerts I attended at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum in 1977 (Styx, Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Kansas and REO Speedwagon with AC/DC as their opening act). I was 13 years old that year and was having the time of my life! I was also living there at the time of Skynyrd's plane crash...That was a very sad time, especially for Jacksonville.
Yeah, didn't Townsend of the Who give Skynyd their first big World tour, or at least to go to Europe, etc? I heard they were the 1st band to not get WHOOOO'D offstage, and I notice in some pictures Ronnie wears a Who t-shirt.. that is a real good business practice on his part, supporting a band that was on his side..shows thankfullness and humility, yes, thats the way to do it..
Just sittin here havin some coffee and some swamp chat. Cool story man.
Love your videos Steve, thank you so much from a classic-rock fan in the Netherlands, Europe!

Hey Steve, is it true Ronnie was buried in his black hat and with his favorite fishing pole? Also, did you go to his funeral?
Cool stories! Did you know Craig Morris on Dayton Rd. in Jacksonville? He was my cousin and if I remember right one of the band members lived behind them and they practiced in a building on the property?
Hope the police caught them wild dogs,
Thanks Steve.

what's a Lynyrd Skynyrd? Lol
Skynyrd destroyed every band in their wake!!!
the genuine article!
Thank you Steve...for that comment. I do believe that it was I who asked you about any run-ins with Zeppelin. It must have been an exciting time. Their first album was very powerful- the records' crisp production INSTANTLY set it apart from all the other muddy sounding records of that time...thanks to Jimmy's and John Paul's production skills. I too look up to Zeppelin...as I am a bassist...and John Paul is very fun to listen to. John was a master manipulator of the pentatonic scale and was very good at making something so simple, sound intelligent! I learned to play bass from this guy! Thank you again Steve...for your insight.
very cool story, Steve- looking forward to the WHO- episode- THAT should be interesting-
payback time! haha!!! such a great story thanks steve!
Looking forward to Part 2...
