Was at the Portland show that night (I've always been pretty sure that I'm one of the tall head silhouettes that you can see the back of during the rant / The Thanks I Get, though I can't be certain). Distinctly remember cringing when Tweedy rolled his eyes pointedly at people talking during "Blasting Fonda" (not on the DVD), feeling like he was about to go off -- and he did. But you know what, from that point on, the rest of the show was great. He relaxed and the crowd did, too. "Passenger Side," "A Magazine Called Sunset," "Laminated Cat," "Acuff-Rose," etc. I had the whole show on a burned CD not long after it happened, so I figure the recording is still floating around somewhere. Good stuff.
I come back to this video every couple of months or so. This is the epitome of musicianship to me. I saw him do a show like this in Dallas and I don't think he gets enough credit for how strong his voice is. He sang one song with no mic, no guitar. He just stood there and belted out this beautiful tune. It gave me chills.
You are a fucking saint.. I had this on a burned cd from my sister 15 years ago. I shared it with my best friend had it returned and haven't been able to fond on digital since I played the cd until it was too scratched. This album has legit saved my life. Some of the greatest versions of amazing song
This is amazing. I wish every artist would do this at every concert! Because people just seem to NOT be able to shut their mouths and actually listen! Why would someone pay tens, or hundreds of dollars to go to a concert and then spend the ENTIRE TIME talking? You can talk to your friends ANYTIME in the tens of thousands of hours available to you in the future. Almost UNLIMITED time that is NOT the TWO HOURS of the concert you just paid a lot of money to attend. I really don't understand people. (And don't get me started on cell phones at concerts). Pay attention to what's right in front of you people. Don't live "on the surface". Keep your mouth shut for a few hours. Go deep. Have a connection with the artist. Have a connection with your fellow concert-goers. Connect with yourself. Have an experience. You can check your messages on your phone in just a few short hours when the concert is over. And you can open up your mouth and yap away as much as you want as soon as you exit the concert hall. It's only a few hours. You can do it. You'll be better for it.
Thanks for posting. I bought this DVD twice in the past. Can no longer find it. And nearly impossible to find new online. It litterly has become a Sunken Treasure
Thank you for posting this. It's been years since I checked but I couldn't even find the physical copy to purchase. Edit: Can't wait to watch this. Thanks again.
