I adopted a kitten that was at least three generations feral. He is laying in my lap purring his lungs out right now.
Lying, not laying. Laying means to pick something up and lay it down. If you say someone or something is laying, it means they have something in their hands and are setting it down. Hence "lay the table"
Lap dog, lap cat, who cares? 😉
All 4 of my rescues were Gerald and they were all great, snuggling, purring perfect cats. I have only one left and he is 17.

On August 21 I was driving home from getting my kids at school, when I was about to a red light I saw this tiny dark figure moving across the road. I thought it was a chipmunk that was either lethargic or had been hit. When I get about 20ft away I realize it’s a tiny black kitten! I panicked! I’m screaming NO! as cars whiz by the tiny wobbling thing. I thought for certain I was about to watch this kitten get run over right before me AND my 4 children’s eyes. Right before it got to the center line of the second lane it collapsed, his little back end just couldn’t go any farther. I was on adrenaline, I made it through the traffic light, slammed on my breaks, just to have the jerk behind me be too impatient and he whizzes past me! I swore he ran the kitten over. I looked for traffic, thankfully they were stuck at the traffic light just behind me, flung my door open and he was gone... I said omg did he get run over and stuck to the tire?! I ran in front of my car to see if his body got flung somewhere, wasn’t there. I jump onto the ground and look under my car... he had scurried under my car behind my front tire. The gentleman behind me blocked traffic for me and the gentleman who was driving in front of me had pulled over and him and his wife ran over to help. He had me move my wheel so he could grab him. The poor thing was so overheated he was profusely panting and his eyes were rolling back. We live in Florida, and the asphalt is scalding. The sweet couple that stopped to help me had to leave, but my vet was right next door so I offered to bring him. The vet refused to help me and said I’d have better chances bringing him home with me cause they wouldn’t treat him without an appointment. When I got him home I thought he was dead until I heard the tiniest meow. My husband grabbed him and brought him inside to try some water. He woke right up but was so lethargic he couldn’t hold his head up and couldn’t walk. A couple hours later he was taking more water and meowing, but still couldn’t walk. Later that night he could pull himself around by his front paws. We gave him kitten formula and against my husbands wishes I held him. I went through this before with a kitten I found in the street and it didn’t have a happy ending, I wanted him to be comforted even if he was going to die. That night he went pee, which was a sigh of relief for me. I stayed up with him all night, he ate 3 more times throughout and was surprised to see he made it the next morning. Over the next couple days he regained strength in his hind legs, ate more and more, slept a lot. Now he’s got a chubby belly, runs amuck throughout the house, climbs EVERYTHING and is happy as can be. He shares his home with 4 human siblings, a rescue dog brother, we’ve had for 9 years, another house panther brother and a Siamese brother. Black cats have a special place in my heart, I can’t help but feel it was kismet that I was going by at the “perfect” time. He’s meant to be in our family🖤

The vet would not treat him without an appointment. Yes indeed. I hope you don't take the cat there for services. They would be my last resort.
This is such a sweet story and thank you for helping the kitten. But screw that vet, what a heartless shithead. I hope you took him somewhere else.

Here were i live they dump all kinds of animals, i have 2 kittens en 3 cats now at home that got dumpt. Now i have a total of 12 cats at home. All rescue cats
Jennifer Van der Kolk One of my family’s first dogs was abandoned. My parents found him in a cardboard box in the middle of winter (a Canadian winter, mind you), half frozen. BJ wasn’t the brightest dog because of this.
Our fourth dog, Taffy was surrendered by her owner. He kept her in his garage and he never let her out. She was also presumably given just enough food and water to survive, because she was very skinny when we got her. Taffy’s collar was on so tight that it took my mom and I almost 2 hours to get it off her. And this guy has *the audacity* to get 2 more dogs.
Our newest dog, Wilbur, was from northern Manitoba. He was thrown outside so he could be two other stray dogs’ dinner and he was badly injured when he was rescued. We were thinking of getting him, then decided not to. That is, until my mom and I came back from my baptism. He’s such a cute, chatty, but destructive puppy. Wilbur’s the only one that I have a digital picture of:

Torties are pure catitude. We have one, Leila, and she has no delusions: she knows herself to be far superior to all other life forms she allows to live in HER house. But she lets us worship her, so clearly she has a kind heart as well :)

We found a 3-4 month old kitten that someone had clearly dumped on the side of a road. We named him Maurice. He does the same kind of crab-run as Zig Zag when he's in a playful mood.
How do people tell if a kitten's been dumped, exactly?

My 1st kitty was a tortoise shell, she was with me for almost 20 years, I still miss her. Something about tortoise shell & black cats, magical. All cats are magical.

My experience with Torties is that they’re all freaks, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Same here. Growing up we had a tortoiseshell cat my dad called Spiffington Posh Paws (Spiffy to the rest of us) as each foot was a different colour. She is the only cat so far I've had to die peacefully in her sleep at 19. I have a tortoiseshell Burmese now called Kit who my mum got for my 18th birthday. Kit is now 13 & still playful like a kitten. She is very laid back & gentle, affectionate & no sign of the infamous tortitude!!
I have two tortoiseshell cats, they are wonderful! I mean, one is thuggish and the other is very serious, but they are still wonderful!
So many of my cats are either black or tortie/calico!💓💓💓💓💓

What a sweetie! Note to kittie parents with children (HUMAN OR FELJNE) with ringworm. This is a fungal infection that can be transferred to humans and other cats. Wash up after playing with either prescription anti fungal soap or extra strength anti dandruff shampoo. It will help prevent transferring ringworm to you (I know this from personal experience).

BTW athletes foot medicine like Lotrimin will also do the job.
My grand aunt cured an outbreak I had when I was 8 after the ointment the MD gave me didn't seem to be doing anything after a week.
Her solution? Chopping a clove of garlic in half and rubbing it on the lesion on my cheek. It was gone in 3 days.
Yeah yeah...I know it's anecdotal, but I presume the sulfur compounds in the garlic had an immediate affect.
It can spread to dogs too. Even horses can get it.
Ugh my bf and I got that too from our newly adopted kitten, he was living in a poor environment before we got him

It's Cole and Marmalade's fusion!
I'm adopting a tortie this Tuesday.
He showed up in my friends neighborhood, she tried to find his owner but no one has come forward. Sadly the neighborhood is seen as a "safe location" to dump unwanted pets. He is quite friendly, comes her when she calls him as well as allowing my friend to pet and pick him up a little bit.
I could t help laughing at my friend, as she had named the cat Penny thinking it to be a girl, when I saw him walking away from us it was obvious it was an intact male, so after a bit of a giggle I suggested Nickles would make a better name.
My last cat passed away over a year ago, and I am finally ready to fill that void in my life again. In my 50 plus years, I have never spent this long without a cat. I am so looking forward to having a fur-baby in my life again.

My sister had a tortie that passed away recently, she was a temperamental little girl, but sweet when she wanted to be.

A young calico was seen near my house and she was wary but soon warmed to me.
The day of a job interview, she ran inside my house and I took it as a positive sign. I got the job and I’m still there!
Since then she has become a regular visitor and frequently stays the night, her head snuggled into my hand.
I dropped a flyer through the neighbours doors to let her owner know where she was and got a phone call to tell me that she regularly disappears for a few days but comes home again. Her name is Dora.
She’s adorable. Cats were put on the earth to stop people stressing. Those purrs are very special.
Marmalade looks the way he does partly because of his large eyes. Compared to Zigzag's and even Cole's his are huge. Zigzag is adorable, have fun with her.

KJN ... Ok, thank you. Do you know how long it takes ringworm to clear up? In the video it says that they had to keep ZigZag outside because she had ringworm (at 0:24 ), then at 0:57 it says "But she had to stay outside because it is so contagious" ... I was just wondering how long it took for the ringworm to clear up.

Melissa Wingfield of course, 3-4 weeks is definitely the very minimum. I’ve seen some last for months even with treatment. But since ZigZag is so young, she’ll more than likely clear up within a month or two.
Those chirp/meow combos are one of my favorite cat quirks of all time!

Oh my goodness! A few yrs ago while on a walk with my 4 dogs I came across a small kitten hiding under a car behind a tire just crying & crying. 😢
Turns out she had ring worm but it went undetected/undiagnosed by the vet I'd taken her to the day after finding her since she didn't appear to have any symptoms of having it (patches of thinning or missing hair, red dry skin patches, itching, etc).
Amazing how something not even 8 oz could bring an entire house with 2 adults & 4 dogs to a complete stop in a matter of like 4 days and then have it be quarantined until after the house was professionally cleaned from top to bottom - corner to corner and until all 7 of us were no longer contagious. 😕
After my family practice Dr diagnosed me as having ringworm I had to take Micah back to see the vet along with my 4 dogs for treatment of it.
Once I found out that the vet, his techician and other employees in his office had been trying to figure out which rascal had recently gifted them with ringworm I didn't feel so silly/stupid about my ringworm experience... turns out it was the cute tiny < 8 oz kitten with no symptoms of it. The experience wasn't fun but Micah was worth every effort and Lord knows 1 of my dogs fell in love with her pretty hard. Micah's been living the good life ever since with a friend that absolutely loves her to death. 😆
Anyway, Zig Zag is one very happy and pretty kitten.
I so enjoyed watching him/her play.. 😊

Well, he has not met my serial killer....
* hunt, yup, she will spend a long time in the mostly finished basement (previous owners did not take care of this place well, so there are many mice to be had! Just pulled an old fiberglass shower out - eeeeuuuuwww mouse dropping galore and nests - was still active)
* catch, yup, she gets a lot, and it is currently mouse season (there are always some, but winter approaches, we get more!)
-->> here's one which is not listed: bring it upstairs, through the kitty door, then let it loose in the large kitchen to "play" with it. There are small places to hide (behind fridge, under/in baseboard radiators, etc, so it can be days of her and her sister chasing it from one hidey hole to another before they finally dispatch it (if I don't get it first and relocate it!) A few others get in on the "action", but it's mostly Sylvia's game...
* kill, yup, but sometimes it is indirect - the poor things can die from stress, fear, lack of food/water while sitting in kitty proof spaces, etc
* eat, yup, but too often she pukes it up soon after - this last one she stripped it of most of the soft body parts and left the rest INTACT! (thus the serial killer! She has left heads, various body parts, puked up parts... she started with leaving just the heads, so I was afraid I would find them in my bed - think of the Godfather!)
-->> he left out play too - she still does play, with toys, strings, her sister, me, bugs, etc.
-->> torment and/or fight with others, yup. She had such bad fights with my little tortie that I had to make separate spaces. She LOVES to torment Eddie, the sweetest boy ever! She will hide under a throw rug in front of the screen door (used to close off hallway and allow another cat zone) and launch herself into it when he shows up on the other side! She will chase/scare him out when he tries to come into the kitchen area. She is a real sweetie with me, can get a little over exuberant when playing with me, but is a love bug. She plays a lot with her sister, but even they can get into some tiffs.

"Torties" are some of the craziest, chatty, most "in yer face" kittens imaginable. This little beast is VERY similar to my cat Neko (same half orange, half black nose... strangely her "south end" displays the same colour variation!)

What a sweet, beautiful kitten. I rescued two cats from Northern Iowa who had ring worm so bad, they nearly lost all their fur. They were only 4 weeks old. We took them to the Vet where they received baths, then we had instructions to continue the baths every Monday, along with some ointment. My male cat, the DUDE, was enamored with these babies. He literally took over their care, carried them around, let them even suck at his tummy! Weird, I know, but he adored these little guys, and, as a result, he got ringworm to and had to be treated. All in all, the kitties went to my sister, who had a beautiful home backing up to the woods, and huge back yard where she feed all kinds of birds from the forest, even the wild turkeys and raccoons got a meal from her every night. The entire back is all windows so "Romeo and Juliet" had a beautiful life. Romeo, the runt, who grew to be a gorgeous, big, Tuxedo died at age 14, and Juliet, now 17, is still living. The Dude Dad passed away at 17 as well. They all had a wonderful life, indoors with a family that loved them. This little guy will as well, and I LOVE the screened in porch!

I had one tortie then adopted another-- they do NOT get along but I bought a cat calming collar which has made a difference-- torties are such characters!!
I am now officially in love with Zig Zag. Ziggy. She is precious and that little meow is too cute. She’s giving it all she’s got but it’s just a little squeak!! The best is Marm watching with that what in the world is my daddy playing with look!! Lol. Ringworm in cats is SUCH a pain, even if you keep them separate. Y’all are brave, wonderful people for taking that on. Zig is precious & so lucky to have you.

I commend you. I know how contagious ringworm is. Both of my rescue kittens had it. Their little eyes weren't even open yet. I had to bottle feed them. My two babies were so sick it took months to get them better. They were so worth it!!!

My wife and I have rescued a few dozen cats over our life.
Some didnt make it, some did, and more than a few never left our house lol.
At least we could give the ones that passed some warmth and love for their time they had left.
That is the hardest part, letting them go.
Our count was up to10 at one point.
They have brought us so much joy over the years I cant imagine our lives without these family members.
My kitty was a *real* feral kitten. I took her home, she hissed at me, she hid & because the manager of the apartment building loved cats, I am now with her 12 plus years. I was not punished by the apartment building manager. I got rewarded! I owe my new family member all to her. I'm glad to see how this all got started. Any case, my kitty hides when maintenance comes in. She is no where to be found lol. Still feral to others after all these years. She does OK at the Vets, however. Many healthy years to Zig Zag! How SO adorable she is!
