Way more specific than other vids I saw. This was the key to helping me get the shield off. Once you understand how the thing assembles, it's easy. Thanks or taking the time to show how it works.
Terry Keene you are welcome! Glad it helped, I struggled myself with the videos that were available and thought a video showing a little more of the mechanics would have helped.
Thanks so much for this. I've searched a lot for how to remove the PTO guard so I can get to the grease nipple on the shaft and couldn't get a clear picture on how to do this. I saw a lot of videos using screw drivers but just didn't understand the mechanism involved. Thanks again for showing this. I should have better success now.
Your welcome! When getting a new implement it will not be quite the right size potentially. Distances vary from tractor and if you have a quick hitch or not. As implement is raised and lowered it needs to shorten/lengthen a couple inches. If left so it bottoms out and can't shorten as lowered it presses into your PTO gear shaft and can damage.
@@ODLife I understand why you'd need to shorten a PTO shaft, what I don't understand is why you'd need to remove the guard to do so. I found your video because my guard tube is cracked, and am also considering trying to lengthen the pto shaft for an implement I bought used - if there is w way to reuse the yokes and slip clutch for less than a new assembly.
@@murky2502 gotcha, that's me reading to fast. Your right, no need to remove to shorten. It's been a long time since I did that video. I think I took it off to do the video because I struggled to remove and thought it would be helpful for someone else. Not sure if you can get an adaptor to lengthen.
@@ODLife it was helpful, thanks. Some shafts you can replace the tube by removing a roll pin at the inner yoke, others are welded. But just tube stock is often more expensive than a whole assembly. I've also considered buying the cheapest assembly of the right size and swapping the outer yoke that has the slip clutch.
+MrJohn714 sorry man, I didn't get footage. I was still not feeling well that day, then hands were getting greasy, I wanted to just get done. There isn't any good videos on taking off the PTO shaft cover, so I figured it might help someone. Here's a good video that I referenced to do it. ua-cam.com/video/0vBFJcvs5SE/v-deo.html
You helped me out 100%.. I have the Woods Tiller and wanted to Beat it off! (The plastic shield) But know I got it with the hands of the wife. " Softer Touch" Tks..

+Chubearishere Your welcome! I had the same problems and thought it might help someone out there and save a little frustration.
Thanks for persevering! The manufacturers should be horsewhipped though.
👍
Don't need a history, just get to it
Thankyou for making and sharing the video. Why did you need the guard off to shorten the shaft?

I didn't log in to hear your health issues or the weather report get on with it already
To me, the trick is getting them back on.🧐
Yeah, I have one that gives me problems. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Would have liked to see the process of shortening, hope that will be your next post!

How do you disconnect the shaft from the cutter?
Should be a bolt or big Allen head screw
There is also a ring to hold the shaft onto the gearbox.
Lol what a lawnmowerxDdd
hows your throat? Was it the rona? ;) jk...
Might have been patient Zero! :)
Just get to the problem at hand. No one cares about the weather or your sore throat.
I do.
