Would there be a big difference between the fisher 1265X model and the current metal detectors on the market, please?. Thx!

I'm sorry, I have no idea. This was an auction pickup and I always wanted one.

i can answer that , 1265 misses the fine stuff due lower freq , but its great for coinshooting

@@breakfinger Good to know! I'm now retired and hope to get out and use this.

A huge difference: it has a preset ground balance and if its more than mild ground will miss stuff. It was not made for fine gold items.

Great for finding dropped 3 point hitch pin clips.

Tractor tires are also great at finding nails dropped in the yard.😂🇨🇦✌🏻

I recently moved a fire pit. I need to get this out to find all the nails so my tractor tires aren't used for that!

A few things i noticed while watching your video. Your coil was not level with the ground. Its not a good idea to use them in damp conditions because they are a delicate instrument.
Any water can damage the housing. And you were swinging way too fast. You need to slow down and let the machine regester. Also the settings are extremely important. You can set them a lot more in either direction than modern machines. Disc one is is your normal hunting setting. Im in Northern Ohio. My best setting for disc one is 1.8 we don't have a lot of mineralized soil. Disc two is used for eliminating iron signals and i set mine at 3.6 for the conditions here. The toggle switch in front of the hand grip on the bottom of the control box is what you use to switch between the two discrimination modes and to pinpoint. Ive been at it since 1974 and over the years ive collected ten machines from Compass, Whites, Fisher and Garrett. Analog and digital. The simple Coin Hustler the first new detecor i purchased to the AT Max and Pros. All of do exactly what they were designed to do. Its really just a matter of the depth and soil conditions. The bells and whistles are for our convenience. Allowing us to attempt to "filter" or discriminate some metals. The problem with that being. The more discrimination you have, the less targets you will hear. Such as a gold ring and other precious metals that register low. Myself, id love a multi frequency pulse induction machine that doesnt have any disc. Just ground balancing. It would go deeper see more types of metals and increase your finds. The draw back to a lot of people is digging every target. I personally dig them all in order to remove the items that might be masking a target. Such as, a large nail thats not far from a gold ring. Our "old" defectors were monotone analog machines that were designed to tell us there was metal in the ground. The more modern machines try to tell what types of metals and at an approximate depth. After about six months of using my Compass. I could tell you if it was a coin and just about how deep it was only by the sound of the tone. Yes it was a novel of a response. But to anyone who is interested in picking up the hobby and doesnt want to invest hundreds of dollars to find out if they enjoy it. There are very good detectors that are older and heavier than today's detectors. But don't think that they can't perform. The technology is still largely the same we have digitized some circuitry and lightened them quite a lot! Try swinging an all metal. Detector with six C batteries in it all day. But that same machine will get deeper than my A T Max. Avoid anything from Asia. They tend to be a real let down. The price says it all. For that price buy a used machine and at least get to figure out if you enjoy it or not. If its not you're thing, you can get your money back. Not with that junk. People who have any knowledge avoid them and tell others the same thing. Hope this helps anyone who watched this video and is interested getting started. Or has Dads old detector they have been thinking about trying. My collection grew because I found that each one has its own special feature. Like a set of golf clubs. Good luck and dig em all!

Great comments. Others indicated my lack of level and speed of swing. Not as many other details. I've been retired for 1-1/2 years now and thought I'd be using this a lot more but a couple projects have consumed my time. Your advice will help me when I do pick it up again.

That’s a very nice detector. However, ur doing two things wrong in ur video. First: that machine IS NOT WATER PROOF. It looks like it’s sprinkling in ur video. That will destroy a good detector that’s not water proof. Second: set ur coil to where it’s level with the ground. I noticed while I was hunting, ur coil was at a angle. Set it level and u will get a better response and better depth. Good luck to u.

I appreciate the response. I wanted to get a video up of the detector quickly so I did this in the rain. Now that spring is finally here I can get back at it. I have another auction found vintage detector that I will be using too. As for my technique, I understand that too and was rushed for this video (in the rain). More practice and hopefully more videos. It helps learn to do things by seeing yourself in a video. It is especially helpful to have experienced people give you advice. Thanks Again!

put discrimination at 5 or in high trash at 7
