@ep010 The sound from this mixer is great. The EQ's have a nice warm sound to them. Not to bad actually. And no, you do not need to use the USB interface if you wish not to. It has the analog TRS and XLR on it.
Can you please share how you set it up in your recording software? Are you able to record tin separate tracks? Or does all the inputs record into 1 track? Thanks! I'm looking to buy one like this!
Hello McIntec: I am interested in converting music into files on my laptop utilizing a usb connection to my Marantz receiver which of course has my turntable, tape deck and cd player plugged into it...Could I use this Peavey PV6 as a usb audio interface to record stuff from my stereo system? - Does the PV6 accept the same type of RCA plugs that are on my stereo system? I was planning on using Audacity to convert music into files...Thanx much for posting this video
Thanks for posting this! Very informative, I appreciate your efforts..... I just bought one like this on Ebay and will use it for a drum mix during recording... I believe this PV6 Mixer is a lot better than the new one they manufacture, now, because of the XLR connectors.... I already have a PV 10 that I use and I love these mixers... Well Made..................One more thing: I am trying to figure out why 13 viewers would give you a "THUMBS DOWN.".....You made the effort to share this info with the world and did an excellent job describing the mixer...... Those viewers must be the mean and grumpy folks that haunt the UA-cam world... Pay no attention to them.....................
I have the non-USB version (but wish I had the USB), it was too good a deal to pass up at the music shop. It has everything I need. Phantom power to run my condenser mic, and inputs for my guitar, bass and keyboard...then I run it to my amp and then into my PC (along with a chain of effects processors, an EQ and another mixer in between) for my home recording studio...it has worked awesome for my needs. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out, using to learn with. It's a great little unit.
Great channel..I am using this very mixer to control my studio in my internet radio talk show (BlogTalk radio)...I want to have more control over the fade in and fade out of the music...How do i configure it to control the fade in and fade out option in BTR..(Currently I slide the volume up and down with the mouse..)...thanks
@tFrankMusic Hey man, with this mixer the phantom power is only available for the first 2 channels. Gathering all your 4 mics are condenser ones, then that could be why it won't work.
Hey what about the latency? does it include or need a driver? Im still thinking of eighter buying a usb mixer or buying a M-Audio Fast Track Pro.any suggestion is well apreciated bro, I want the best audio quality on a budget for recording vocals.
i have the same mic... i've been hooking up the rca in the mic jack on the computer and using the usb.... now i realize why my shit wasnt working correctly...lol thanks for this walk-through
Hello! I have this one question! Can I achieve a descent guitar signal if I plug the jack into a line input? I'm looking to buy a PV6 but the lack of an Instrument input worries me!
Question...I sound great on my Podcast with this mixer. However, my co-host, who is female sounds like she is far from the mic (like she is in the bathroom). I tried everything, even got her a nicer condensor mic (my mic is a $10 dynamic mic, or so they say! LOL). Do you have any suggestions to improve her sound?
Just got the mixer it works great but when i plug the usb into my computer nothing happens. is there a program i need to download or should something show up?
Thanks. Good review, and I suspect I know the answer from what you said, but over USB, you can only record a signal that combines all the inputs, rather than it giving you the opportunity to store each input as separate tracks on the pc? I.e. My Synth and My xlr mic should be separate tracks on the pc. Thanks!
I have a USB condenser Mic. If I plugged this mixer and my mic into my computer would the mic run through the mixer ? If it wouldn't - If I plugged in a 1/4" jack into the mixer then a 1/8" jack into the headphone socket would it work then ? If none of the above work is there anyway I can get a USB mic to work with this desk ?
I bought that mixer, but after a while there were some questions coming up: Can I record my drumset with my 4 microfones with that mixer ? - I've tried so hard to record all my microfones at the same time with that mixer... but it just doesn't work. I don't know what I do wrong. I use Logic, but I can't record all 4 channels. Logic only lets me record channel 1 and 2 at the same time...so the main channels.... channel 3 +4 don't even show up.... CAN U HELP ME ??
Thanks this is good information, right now i have 2 Pre Sonus boards 16 channel and a 32 channel. I wanted to make a little recording studio for my friends to use...This is a good way to start one! Thanks for the info!
I need advice. I just purchased 2 MXL 990 mics and this Peavey PV6 mixer. I plan to to purchase two more. Unfortunately i was told this mixer could handle 4 condenser mics but obviously it can't. This USB only has about 15v phantom power supply. And can only hold up to two mics. (if that) I don't want to go out of my price range for anything more expensive than this. Is there a way to hook up a phantom power supply? Or maybe u guys know of any mixers that hold up to 4 phantom powered mics (chea
Hi i want to buy this one but have a question; is the sound what comes from the 3 EQ channel treble, bass and mid a warm sound or a cheap sharp sound if you know what i mean. And also do i need to use the USB or can i still use it as a standard normal mixer without the USB port?
is this mixer only used for recordings or broadcasting? can it also be used on a live rehearsal session or gig without recording or broadcasting?? thanks
Hey, Is it possible to route the incoming digital audio signal to the headphone output? As well as recording, I use my mixer to practice playing bass guitar and for that I'd need to blend the mp3s playing on the pc with the signal from my bass on channel one of the mixer both through headphones. I assume that's what the 'tape/usb to control/hp' button is for but I'd really like to be sure, most cheap mixers only route the digital audio to the main outputs, not the usb output.
Hey, I'm trying to set up a starter home studio, I will record guitars a vocals! Do you recommend this? Do I need an audio interface with this? Is it better to get a simple audio interface without the mixer functions? Thanks!
What type of power supply does the PV6USB use? I cant seem to find the answer online. The back of mixer says 15V - 500MA but the manual calls for a 16V - 1AMP. I currently have a 15V - 1AMP power supply connected to mixer but all the clip lights turn on. Not sure if its do to the higher amperage or if its an indication of something wrong with the board. I got it from a friend who lost the power supply so he is not sure if it was working properly or not since it was stored away for a couple years with other band equipment. Great video BTW, any help will be greatly appreciated!
im having a problem with mine, when i plug in the power lead in the whole thing lights up and cant get any sound, its connected to a pioneer dmj2000 mixer, it was fine til the lead was replaced any ideas???
hey i REALLY REALLY NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE REPLY YEA :) haah anyway. i just bought on of these with 12 inputs. and when i bought it, it didnt come with the usb plug. what is the exact plug needed cuz, at the back of the mixer. it isnt a normal usb plug. please help.
Thanks for the video, I'm a beginner and am shopping for a mixer . I was wondering if it allows bidirectional USB. Can I playback a previously recorder track via USB whilst recording ( and listening ) to a new track? What about having a metronome cue in the phones but not being recorded? many thanks!
I just got the newer version of this mixer. It connects to my pc fine and records. My problem is when I try to record a second track it records the first track that's playing. not sure how to fix this?
+D Fins its most likely looping the audio back into the input. What you want to do is what is called "mix minus". You want to hear your channel live and the playback from the computer but not have the computer's playback loop back into the recording. Make sure USB to MIX button is not enabled and enable the USB to HEADPHONES button. The only problem is you won't hear the channel playing on the mixer in your headphones. A work around for this is you can use the EFX send into the computer via an audio cable to the sound cable.
My apologies for any confusion. This mixer won't let you playback a track and record a separate track with just the current channel while your playback track is going. You would need a mixer that would allow soloing. Or you could use a 1/4 Mono to 3.5mm Stereo cable on the EFX send.
Thank you very much for the reply. I have the PV6 plugged into my laptop using the USB connection. I'm using Audacity on my laptop for playback of the original song while recording my bass along with it. Everything works, except I cannot hear my bass through the headphones while recording. I checked and the bass is coming through the EFX send. I connected the EFX send to the laptop mike in but still cannot hear the bass. Any ideas? Actually I'm just thrilled to death that, in this big old world, you responded at all. Thanks again!
I want to record me playing my ipad to a stereo track in Garage Band as my guitarist is playing simultaneously with me to a separate mono track in Garage Band. Will that work with this product?
You could try the experimenting with the possibilities of creating a stereo image by using a quite simple panning technique that has worked well for me. First things first...assuming you're going low budget, simply run to radio shack and 1. find yourself a 1/4 in female to 1/8 in male (Aux) Adapter...I'd recommend MONO in order to retain quality. 2. Use an instrument cable to run into Track 1 of your mixer 3 Have your guitarist plug in to the mixer also by simply using another instrument cable 4. Learn about Gain Structure if you haven't already....it will help. I promise. 5. Experiment with the comparison in sound of what you are hear through headphones and what the computer is picking up...assuming that you're going via USB 6. Close your eyes, play with EQ knobs until your content with each of your instrument's sound (minimize feedback) 7. Here's the trick, BOTH OF YOU PLAY AT THE SAME TIME. 8. CLOSE YOUR EYES ....WHILE 9. Panning Guitar into one ear and iPad into the other until YOU FEEL your mix sounds balanced. 10. You're now sending a pre-mastered track to you DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) 11. You're instruments ARE NOT isolated, so do what you can to perfect your performance. 12. This will at least provide you with a stereo image input towards your software while retaining the quality of your instruments running through the mixer. Hope this help. Message me on facebook if you got questions. Sean Calvin.
well, the only way it records is coming out as 1 input track. yea soo all editing must be done before recording on the mixer. -.- thats the bad bit, but, otherwise i just use a normal usb cable and connect it straight into my mac. im only starting to use this, so it shuld do fine for now :)
Just get a RCA Stereo Plug to 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug adapter and run that from the Tape Out on the back of the PV6 to your stereo input of your computer (usually the green male receptacle on the back of the tower). The adapter should be about $5.00 bucks at RadioShack or BestBuy.
You talk like you are conversing with a person who has a good background over mixers. Maybe you should talk to people who has no such background like me to make the information useful to us. Power, mic connections, iPod, controls, etc. and why to connect there, the sounds.....but that's your way...just saying.
Thank you for the comment. I am sorry that this video confused you. I plan on doing updated videos that are more structured. If you have anything specifically that you would like to know or what you would like cleared up and explained better, please let me know. 😀
@@McIntec I wish I could find some information on global compressor, It's only used for an XLR mic. Normal talking volume, with the gain level turned all the way down and it picks up great. just was unsure of what the compressor does. I've got a different version of this mixer, the PV 6BT so the interface looks a bit different. you got any idea on compression for just normal, talking, voiceover?
I know it's 2017 but this video helped and so I have 2 questions: 1. I have one of these and am about to get a pair of speakers for its main outs but what's its watt limits if the speakers are connected one both main outs? 2. I know it mainly works for live performing but I've been trying to figure out how to use it for multi track recording as well but can't seem to find how to. How can I record all inputs at the same time but with its own separate track instead of recording them one at a time??
+Caleb Ayala 1. This is a preamp mixer. It requires am external amp or powered speakers to be hooked up. 2. This model of mixer only has 3 outputs. 1 AUX and 2 for the mains which is left and right. You could pan hard left on one channel and pan hard right on another channel to get 2 tracks. Then in your recording program you specify one track to record only left and and the other only right. Plug the AUX send into your mic in or another input if available on your computer and you can have 3 tracks of analog audio fed into the computer for track recording.
I'm trying to use one of these to record vocals and guitars but can't seem to get both the backing track on one channel of Cool Edit and what I'm recording into another channel to be monitored in the headphones at the same time, it's either one or the other. Any suggestions?
cris,do not turn on the power to any component yet. first, connect your left and right 1/4 inch cables from the "mains out" of the mixer to the corresponding left and right inputs of your power amp. the left and right output from your amp goes to the speakers. if you want to jam along any guitar backing tracks using a cd plaver or a dvd player that plays cd, you can use any old or ordinary home stereo receiver or amp that has a cd input (philipps). try doing the following: cd or dvd player connects to the back panel of the mixer ( input) and the cd/dvd output connects to the home stereo amp or receiver, labelled cd input or auxiliary input. once you have made the connections, go back to your mixer and press the buttons that say "cd/tape to mix" and "cd/tape to cntrl room" .power up your cd or dvd player, power up your mixer, power up your home stereo. turn the main volume slider on the mixer slightly up. play your cd or dvd player and you should hear the music coming through the home stereo speakers.you can also now use the whole set-up as a karaoke machine stay away from barry manilow songs at first.
Hi, thanks for the review. I want to ask you, can i hook a pair of speaker, a computer and use this mixer as an karaoke setup? The computer would send audio to this mixer and the mic would be use to sing into. Hope this make sense. Thanks
hi McIntec!!!! It it possible to use the PV6 as a mixer only without plugin it in USB? And, when hookin´up through USB to a MAC, is it possible to route channels i/o as it would normally be done with any audio interface? Thanks pal!!!!
hey i just figured out its a normal small to big usb cable that connects in straight into the computer, no sound card needed :D ahhaha anyway, thanks for ur help :) and thanks for a great tutorial.
*Thanks, after checking this video I decided to buy a 2nd hand PV. I recorded a few songs where everything goes through a condenser mic and into the PC via this mixer. Check out my channel to get an example of how it came outt.*

2. I know it mainly works for live performing but I've been trying to figure out how to use it for multi track recording as well but can't seem to find how to. How can I record all inputs at the same time but with its own separate track instead of recording them one at a time??

Any suggestions?
what slot to connect pv6 to power amp???
cris,do not turn on the power to any component yet. first, connect your left and right 1/4 inch cables from the "mains out" of the mixer to the corresponding left and right inputs of your power amp. the left and right output from your amp goes to the speakers. if you want to jam along any guitar backing tracks using a cd plaver or a dvd player that plays cd, you can use any old or ordinary home stereo receiver or amp that has a cd input (philipps). try doing the following: cd or dvd player connects to the back panel of the mixer ( input) and the cd/dvd output connects to the home stereo amp or receiver, labelled cd input or auxiliary input. once you have made the connections, go back to your mixer and press the buttons that say "cd/tape to mix" and "cd/tape to cntrl room" .power up your cd or dvd player, power up your mixer, power up your home stereo. turn the main volume slider on the mixer slightly up. play your cd or dvd player and you should hear the music coming through the home stereo speakers.you can also now use the whole set-up as a karaoke machine stay away from barry manilow songs at first.
@ZcsFilms Plug it straight into your computer
Hi, thanks for the review. I want to ask you, can i hook a pair of speaker, a computer and use this mixer as an karaoke setup? The computer would send audio to this mixer and the mic would be use to sing into. Hope this make sense. Thanks
Did you ever get it to work with speaker? If so how?

this looks awesome!!!!
hi McIntec!!!! It it possible to use the PV6 as a mixer only without plugin it in USB? And, when hookin´up through USB to a MAC, is it possible to route channels i/o as it would normally be done with any audio interface? Thanks pal!!!!
Cam a small practice guitar amp be plugged into the mixer’s headphone jack or another main out jack to serve as a monitor for live shows?
hey i just figured out its a normal small to big usb cable that connects in straight into the computer, no sound card needed :D ahhaha anyway, thanks for ur help :) and thanks for a great tutorial.
I want to make an interview with about five people Does this mixer work for that? only mics and not musical instruments. Thank you in advance.
A FireWire one would of been a butt better, but a good video none-the-less. :D
@McIntec
Thank you very helpfull :)
It has no compression, for most situations this would be a huge problem.
*Thanks, after checking this video I decided to buy a 2nd hand PV. I recorded a few songs where everything goes through a condenser mic and into the PC via this mixer. Check out my channel to get an example of how it came outt.*
Because the PV6 can only record 2 channels at a time.
You won't be able to use the mixer to your computer, unless you buy like a $300 12 channel soundcard. :[
@ZcsFilms Simple answer. No
Great, but I wanted the idiot’s guide. 🙁
Well I still dont know how to connect it to my laptop!!!!
if it 16 bit then it is wastage of money
Get a tripod dude!... this video is practically unwatchable. The info is useful but the shaky video negates it.
What amp is required for this mixer
