Dawg i swear just two weeks ago my grandad was showing me how to work the fishing rod he didn't even put out any slack or cast it he just dipped it in the water pulled it back up and there was a fish on there he caught a fish in 1 second it was on the smaller side but impressive nonetheless on the first try too
Funny the biggest bass I ever caught! 5lbs 3oz was on the line less time that that. Throwing a little Cleo standing on bank on some rocks that jutted out into the lake with a small weed bed at my right foot. I probably had 8ft of line from the plug to the tip of my rod when that thing hit. I think I may have cranked twice and slid it right up in the grass and grabbed it. No long epic battle. Kinda like the first time a girl grabbed your member when you were a kid. Real quick, not a lot to tell but it still counts!!
I've done faster as a kid, was fishing the Arkansas river by a dam with my dad on some rocky bank, during that time of the year minnows spawn so you could see whole schools of them hundreds to thousands in a giant fish cloud swimming by with fish chasing them. I grabbed one of my dads poles with bait on it he had to the side and said hey dad look and I stuck it out in front of me soon as a minnow school came, within 2 seconds I yanked a big ol bass my dad was in disbelief and the guys on the river bank were all laughing and congratulating me 😂

They will do that all the time you just have to find the right topwater baits/lures to get them to strike it
As a kid I would take a rubber frog and do that. The first time is so surprising, that bass explodes through the moss. So much fun.

@@Noofy89 I stopped watching fishing videos a decade ago because of the faux drama these guys add to hook sets. Every now and then during a doom scroll, a short gets past my (mental) filter and I am reminded that while I love to fish, I don't like fishing videos.

Coming from someone who has been fishing for over 20 years I can say with confidence that when using a topwater frog you HAVE to set the hook hard to get the hooks to penetrate. The design on these lures makes them weedless so you can retrieve them through thick matted grass like this without getting the hook caught.
