Wow,second video of yours that keeps my E66 rolling. Im in rural New Mexico with no dealership or competent mechanic for 3 hours any direction.Thankyou boss&have a good one.
Just did the job... Your video is priceless! Made me nervous when you put the intake cover back on with the inserts still installed, mine were starting to fall out...one of mine fell into the intake manifold...they are magnetic :-).
What were the issues or symptoms that led changing this pipe. I like your videos and have learned a lot from them, but I think it would be helpful for you to state the problem or symptoms that led to the job at hand. Thank you and keep up the good work.
i wish i would have seen these videos before i paid to do my gaskets and secondary air hoses, my two cents if you havent done it check out valve seals and secondary air valves if your already there might as well
You don't need to by the expense extendable pipe. You can cut the old one in the middle, and change the O ring on each end, and connect the two half pipes together by using a rubber connector from a plumbing store, with C clamp on each side.
Great video thanks... step by step and to the point... I hope I don't have to change mine I have a 2002 bmw 745li but If I ever do I will watch your video for instructions... thanks again
For the front seal, it's worth removing the water pump. The seal can be a real pig to fit correctly so being able to see both sides is handy. Great video though.
Does the pipe need to pass over the front O-ring, where the water pump is? Im finding it very hard to fit this seal and expand the pipe so the groove can be seen. If installed incorrectly and it does leak, and you go in there again, do you need to buy a new valley pan again?
Yes valley pan seal is a one time use, it is difficult to install front o-ring but it is doable, the pipe must extend to the point where it can be locked in the middle
Great video I have same car and need to change knock sensors. One question, when change the coolant transfer pipe do I have to change water pump or can I still use the original water pump?
Trying to install the front seal, can't get the pipe to go all the way in. Does the flat part or the beveled part of the seal goes down in to the groove?
I know this is an old video. I’m running into a coolant leak (obviously) 650i N62 So when i took the manifold i could see coolant right under the knock sensors all along the sides of valley pan. When i open the old valley pan, should it be dry inside or there should be some coolant there? I don’t see signs of leaks through the weep hole. Thanks in advance, great video
@@Zeiten thank you for the reply. So where do you think it could be coming from? I replaced The Valley yesterday (i beloved this was the issue since i had coolant right below the knock sensors) today i found coolant again, will take the throttle body see if i can spot where it could be coming from.
The most common in this area is valley pan or 3-way hose from expansion tank to the heads, or this little black tube from water pump to valley pan also o-ring on water pump to metal long pipe that runs along valley pan to the hose in the back
I have a 06 750li and im doing this job now I got the valley pan off and my pipe is metal not plastic. Does this mean it’s been replaced before or did some models come with metal pipe ?? Car only has 86k miles
@@Zeiten thank you, I'm about to do a 2005 745Li and learning as each manufacturer does things a little different. Also, besides that pipe and valley pan with gasket you know any other things that I may as well replace while I'm in there? I noticed on the one I'm working couple small coolent hoses are leaking and will replace them.
@PashaGaleta get new intake manifold gasket and yes for sure replace 3 way coolant hose (expansion tank to the heads) other than that whatever is broken i’d say😁
@@Zeiten Ok, Thanks. Two of them were standard BMW with a metal spring clip. Third one is different, not sure if I am supposed to press any tab on it or just pull it .
Thanks for the video, about to tackle this project soon. I was going to ask about the valley pan replacement, but I see u already answered it. One other question: Does the intake manifold gasket need to be replaced as well? Thanks in advance.
Good videos! Would be cool if you could provide torque specs, sometimes they are a challenge to find. Why do you prefer this repair vs. the stint that goes in behind the water pump?
Because there is two gaskets that go bad. One in the front and one in the back. If you do the stent it’ll only fix the front issue, and you’ll have a leak again from the back soon. So it’s easier to just replace both than fix and mask one problem.
How do u know if the coolant transfer pipe is leaking? Reading more i just saw that if the weep hole is leaking by the water pump that means the coolant transfer pipe front or rear o-rings went bad. Now if u dont have a leak at the weep hole, but seeing signs of leaking at the valley pan that means i need new valley pan? And if i open the valley pan and i see coolant inside that is normal? Thanks
Yep, in that case valley pan needs replacement but I would say since you opened it, it would be best to replace transfer pipe as well, valley pan has one time use seal
@@Zeiten Thanks for that info! Do u know the torque specs for intake manifold, valley pan for 2008 750li n62tu? What’s can cause coolant to leak from oil filter housing 745li 2005 ?Coolant doesn’t go in radiator at all directly out the oil filter housing Have already install coolant pipe transfer
Oil filter housing doesn’t leak coolant, there is a coolant cover (part number 11147504376) between engine block and transmission that leaks coolant and it covers everything under it which includes oil filter housing and other components
Well in most cases it is valley pan gasket leak, it seems like it is between engine and transmission but in fact it originates at valley pan and goes down in the back. But there can be a leak through another component that is located between engine and transmission in order to reach it you’ll have to separate those two
Would this be the reason my 2004 745i keeps running hot? Also, amazing video and I’ve been looking on UA-cam for months and this is by far the best one yet!!!
That’s what I’m afraid of, I live in a small town with no BMW specialist. So like you can imagine it’s hard to get a mechanic to even want to look at it. I did have a small like in the water pump area and we discovered it was the timing chain cover was cracked so we replaced that and put on a new water pump and new thermostat, new transmission cooler because it was leaking, a new upper radiator hose a new coolant tank, new lower water hose and now the water comes out the rear tail pipe and it still runs hot. I’m hoping this is the problem. But I think it may be a blown head gasket too. I tried to put blue devil in it but it won’t hold pressure. Is this leaking transfer pipe a reason why it won’t hold pressure?
Sounds like a blown head gasket, blue devil and all other stuff is gonna help you only for short period of time, the best course of action is to replace head gaskets but might be something else try to find someone to do proper diagnostic@@andrewilliams1981
@buckithed oh yes that could be, i remember i had experience with something called mtr brand i think made in USA and that seal was impossible to install, get uro parts i never had issues with this one
Hows it going brother. I have a 2003 745li and it's starting to leak alot of coolant from underneath the car. Worst case scenario how much would a job like this cost to get done?
Need to be more specific, the range of repair costs is very wide and all coolant or most oil leaks end up underneath the car doesn’t matter where they originated, gravity
To replace the valley pan it will leak on the side or the back underneath the manifold. Front hole by water pump is the transfer pipe needs to change including the valley pan because of the seal.
@@flowingwater6813 still no, since 2009 it is a different engine - n63, the usual spots for coolant leaks on your car is 3-way coolant hose behind alternator (between the heads) and turbo cooling lines
