Loved your reaction! A lot of people were skeptical of Bruce Willis going into this movie. This was Bruce Willis' first action movie and the one that put him on the radar as an action hero. At the time, everyone only knew him from a romantic comedy TV show called Moonlighting. As you allude to when you bring up McClane showing panic and emotion, most action movies of the era had huge M.A.C.H.O. omnipotent main protagonists that looked like Arnold Schwarzegger or Sylvester Stallone, so Bruce looked inappropriate. In the end of course, everyone on Die Hard had the last laugh when they knew they created an action classic.

Okay couple epic things about Hans' fall from the tower. One, that body falling was a stunt man. He fell into a pile of cardboard boxes and a massive air mattress, but got seriously fucked up. And when he said yes, he did the scene and they let him go on one, just to get that reaction.
21:22 Rickman's reaction at the end is genuine. For the shot where Hans Gruber falls from the top of the building, Alan Rickman was actually falling from a 21-foot high model. He was holding on to a stunt man and falling on to an air bag. To get the right reaction, the stunt man dropped Rickman on the count of two, not three.
Imagine this movie was like a video game, where you could unlock that John McClane wore a Santa Clause hat throughout the ENTIRE movie like in the thumbnail 😂
Glad you enjoyed this Vicky! Didn't expect you to pull this one up.This was a fabulous film at the cinema, the sound was spectacular, and as you recognise was quite the mark, particularly at the time since it became one of the more "realistic", non soap opera style hostage/terorrist type movies that pitched our hero into a situation pretty out of his depth and gave us all quite the ride out, along with pretty competent villains. It's notable that this was the first time we saw Bruce Willis do anything on this scale.. I think it was his big screen debut, and certainly we had only reall been familiar with him through the TV series "Moonlighting" in which he was as wise cracking but also quite irreverent. This brought a serious hard hitting character angle and I remember it surprising a friend who up to this movie didn't really like Bruce WIllis and Moonlighting.
So glad you had fun watching this movie. The plane is Die Hard 2: Die Harder. Excellent sequel name, but the film is best described as “skippable” Die Hard with a Vengeance (3) is the first to deviate from christmas, and it’s a lot of fun

The point about Hans saying 'who said we were terrorists' wasn't to dispute it but to say that they're not simply there for any message they want to send as everyone assumes. Hence, the scene after where Nakatomi was baffled that all they wanted was money. This later becomes the whole plan and cover for Hans and co to the outside world looking in who thinks they're doing this 'for a cause', thus making it even easier while everyone is scrambling to meet their 'demands'. That's why Hans was so amused when it gets brought up because he's laughing at people who fall for it. Great reaction! You should jump to part 3 which is considered on par with the first. It's super good and really opens up the stakes. You don't have to worry about seeing part 2 (one of the weaker movies), in fact, part 3 has a huge connective tissue with part 1 and can be seen as it's true sequel!
I do feel like his wife got a good executive position in good company as a lawyer? at a newly developed building, which is definitely harder to come by compared to a position as a police officer. And her kids got a nanny which means she probably makes a lot or has a lot of company benefits. I think that John associated new york with roughness hence his blunt personality and didn't want to even try to move to L.A. Both ppl in the relationship don't seem to want to give way to the other and I presume their "split" was more than just about the move and career changes.
@@xxxXKPoPXxxx yup totally agree. BUT.... It would also take John years to adapt to being a cop in LA, based on my extensive knowledge of watching many many movies and cop shows and never even living in America myself, so I feel I have a real unbiased fully informed opinion. 😂😂 But seriously, they both have legit reasons for being locationally separated, so the only answer is, divorce. 😔 Or an open long distance marriage 😀😂🤔
This was Alan Rickman's first Hollywood film. He made it after making a huge splash on Broadway in a play called 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses', which was later made into a film called 'Dangerous Liaisons' (and John Malkovich played Rickman's role, The Vicomte de Valmont). The movie itself made Rickman a star and Bruce Willis a superstar and bona fide movie star because he was already a TV star for a show called 'Moonlighting'. The cinematographer is Jan De Bont, who later became a director ('Speed' with Keanu Reeves and 'Twister' with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt were his biggest hits). My vote is that this is a definite Christmas movie! I came here after being suggested your channel by Natalie Gold on her channel...and I loved your reaction to this movie and your energy. Subscribed! Keep up the good work!!!
The look on Allan Rickmans face is genuine surprise. They really did drop him 30 feet onto an airbag. He wasn’t too happy about doing the stunt, so the director did it before him to show him it was perfectly safe. When they did the stunt for the movie, the director told Rickman that he would release him on the count of 3. Instead, he dropped him on 2, so the surprise and fear you see in his eyes is 100% genuine, he had no idea he was being dropped right at that moment. Genius idea from the director, because it resulted in an amazing shot. As for Bruce Willis, he was like the 10th or even lower pick to play the role of John McClain. He was looked at as a comedy guy, he wasn’t regarded at all as an action hero or even capable of doing any sort of drama. Now, I couldn’t see anyone else playing the role, because he killed it. Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie, Die Hard 2 takes place at Christmas also. A popular saying is that “It’s not Christmas until Hans Gruber gets dropped from the top of Nakatomi tower.” Either way, it’s one of my favorite movies and has been since it was originally released (yes, I’m old, get off my lawn!). You should do a reaction for the original Lethal Weapon. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover make an amazing duo. It’s another movie sort of like Die Hard. Drama, mixed with comedy mixed with plenty of action. It’s a fun movie, I think you would like it. Coincidentally, it also takes place around Christmas!
Ur back with the reaction of my dad's all time favourite movie! This means a LOT to me n I really2 appreciate that😭 THNK U sooo much for reacting to Die Hard!🙏
No. Just because a movie's story is set during a Christmas season, does not necessarily make it a Christmas movie. Unless of course it has themes relevant to Christmas like the classics, A Christmas Carol, It's Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, or more modern fare like Love Actually.
Fun Fact: Up until the mid-1960s, all movie villains were portrayed by people with dark hair and brown eyes. It wasn't until Sergio Leone's epic, "Once Upon A Time In The West," that a villain was played by a lighter-haired, blue-eyed actor.
Fun fact, when they shoot the "dropping Hans" scene they where suppost to count to 3 till they drop Alan, but dropped him on 2 to get a better reaction out of him
In a funny way I think it also became a genre in itself; the lone protagonist against a bunch of hostage-taking baddies in a single location. Die Hard on a boat? Under Siege. Die Hard on a plane? Take your pick, Air Force One, Executive Decision, Passenger 57. Die Hard in a school? Toy Soldiers, Masterminds. Die Hard at the sports stadium? Sudden Death. And then Die Hard in the White House? White House Down. There probably is a Die Hard on a Train movie but strangely I can't think of one, haha.
@@Crespwnian Nice, haven’t actually seen that but I had a feeling someone would have made a train-based Die Hard type film at some point. I thought of another one as well; Die Hard on a mountain? Cliffhanger.

Lethal Weapon is a film I’ve always felt was simply a movie set at Christmas rather than a Christmas movie. It’s hard to explain why though because Die Hard definitely feels like a Christmas movie to me.
Tuggernaut Express LW opens, if memory serves (been a long while) with one of those bouncy Christmas songs, then really hot girl killing herself. Again, if I recall, when the helicopter carrying Gary Busey rises up and kills a guy Mel Gibson is speaking to (Maybe LW is actually an insane racist movie!), he’s quaffing egg nog.
@@MrSmithla When I mentioned the Die Hard score I meant more the actual music composed for it because there’s lots of subtle variations of actual Christmas tunes woven into it such as Winter Wonderland in a minor key etc...
It's LITERALLY Christmas Eve. John was only in LA to see his kids for Christmas. Hans' plan revolves around the Christmas party because there are the mass amount of hostages with little security. Throughout the movie, John learns the error of his ways and just wants to be with his wife and kids. The decorations, the music, even the sheets of paper falling like snow at the end...it's not a traditional Christmas movie, but it IS a Christmas movie!!!
I hate when people say it's a Christmas film, sure it slots into the Christmas season but if it's not about Christmas it isn't a Christmas film. Elf, a Christmas Story, Nightmare before Christmas... those are Christmas films because that's what their plots center around, Die Hard could be swapped to have taken place on New Year's eve quite easily and it wouldn't change the film at all, just superficial things like being at a new years party instead of Christmas... That being said, if I were going to watch Die Hard it would probably be around Christmas time.
Glad to see you smiling again after your video from a couple of weeks ago. There’s currently a Die Hard battery commercial running with Bruce Willis and De’voreaux White (Argyle) reprising their roles.
9:07 Exactly, and that's why Die hard (1 and 2) is good, he's just a ordinary cop, he's scared, sarcastic, unprepared and barefoot. After the 2nd movie, it becomes another generic action movie.
DH3 is still a really good movie, though. It would have been the best ending to a trilogy if they didn't milk the franchise out to basically irredeemable levels.
Im so thankful for the box your parents decided to hide you away in as a child so I can enjoy you watching these for the first time wit u lol. Have a great one!
It's interesting cause Shane Black wrote that movie, and then wrote/directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and then Iron Man 3, both of which take place at Christmas time. apparently dude just loves including Christmas in his movies lol
I don't think the exchange at 15:46 was really NY vs CA, since the police officer John befriends is also from CA. The guy in charge is just an idiot. And, isn't that always how it goes? haha
One of the things that makes Die Hard so brilliant is that nobody is an idiot. The hero is smart, the villains are smart, and you never know who's going to win the next round. The effect of the person falling from the building was done ... by having a stuntman fall off the building onto a giant air mattress. This was the 80s, you couldn't easily fake that kind of thing.
You wanna know my favorite part of this video. You are the ONLY person who I have seen react to the "No more table! Where are you going, PAL?" It's literally one of my favorite moments in the whole movie.
10:29 Counting them wouldn't help if they are not on the same floor. By having names he can be more accurate of numbers if they're just being spoken to over the radio.
Back in 1989 when this came out on video for the first time, I brought it home for my mother to watch. Problem: She hated Bruce Willis' acting because of Moonlighting. Solution: convinced her hat this acting is nothing like that. I practically had to sit on her to make her watch. Halfway through the video her mother calls to chat. Her immediate reaction to the phone ringing: "PAUSE IT! PAUSE IT! PAUSE IT!" All caps and exclamation points are literal to the situation. When she was done with her call that she wanted to cut short oh so bad, she came back, sat down and was ready for the rest. She loved Bruce Willis' acting after watching this movie.
Die Hard changed the game for action movies back in the day. The single location, the fact that the hero didn't wasn't an invincible tank that never took any sort of damage...was all new. Also, the look on Alan Rickman's face when he fell was genuine shock: That scene required him to drop 40 feet onto a crash pad and the director told him they would release him on the count of 3...but did it at 1 to get that shocked expression. They planned it out so that it was the last shot Rickman had to do for the movie.
5:19 So by taking the famly to LA for the sake of HER career, does that not mean she cares more about her career than her family ? Why does her career have more value than his ?
This was a significant movie at the time within the action genre, because it shows our hero (Willis) as an "everyman". Up until this, most action heroes were either really buff like Schwarzenegger, or had specialty skills like military, or were otherwise perfectly suited for the job. Here, an ordinary man who's clearly in over his head - gets to save the day. It allowed ordinary men to feel like they could be heroes too if circumstances called upon them in such a manner.
Telling them, leaving the body, leaving the messages, it's mental warfare. It also draws the enemy towards his location - controlling that battlefield.

John McTiernan did the first Predator movie too. The man was the go-to guy for 80s action
Excellent sequel name, but the film is best described as “skippable”
Die Hard with a Vengeance (3) is the first to deviate from christmas, and it’s a lot of fun
I really enjoyed watching movies with you. And specially when you said: No Cursing. It's hard to find people who react to movies and feel that there's no fun without cursing. Thank you 🙏🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love the nice feel-good moment when a guy who killed a kid learned to shoot to kill again! Such holiday moment!
Only in the us of a.
It's a christmas miracle!!!!
Die Hard is one of those iconic movies, so much that when movie studios are pitching ideas for their action movies, they use Die Hard as a template. When the Keanu Reeves movie Speed was pitched to the studio, it was pitched as "Die Hard on a bus".
And Under Siege was Die Hard on a battleship.
Passenger 57 was Die Hard on a plane
Ooh! If you want to laugh a lot and just have a good fun time, you gotta watch all the Naked Gun movies. 😆 if you haven't seen it. Those movies are my favorite.
Oh YES!!!!!
ooooooooooo I've heard they're good movies. Maybe I should finally watch them :)
@@VKunia * Also, if you enjoyed Die Hard, my favorite Die Hard movie is "Die Hard with a Vengeance". It's the 3rd one in the series, or the Mission Impossible movies are good. My favorite Mission Impossible movie is "Ghost Protocol", which I believe is the 4th one in the series.
@@VKunia Yes, do it!
@@VKunia yes! You should. I promise you'll enjoy it 100% if you LOVE Spaceballs, you'll definitely love Naked Gun. 😄
It's a joy watching the next generation discover this movie. Merry Christmas, Ms. VKunia!
If you enjoyed this as a Christmas movie, you would love the first Lethal Weapon movie ( another Christmas movie ) if you haven't watched it yet.
I agree! =)
Great suggestion..
omg I wasn't expecting the squeaky toy censor nine minutes in... had to rewind to make sure I heard it right. Totally made my night because that sounds is the LAST thing I expected during a Die Hard video lol
Glad you really enjoyed it! This movie is considered one of the greatest action movies ever made. It's badass but relatable. Action packed and really intense. The villain is great and John McLane is one of the greatest action protagonist in cinema ever. And yeah...this is a Christmas movie. It has to be haha!
Fun fact: this was Alan Rickman’s first Hollywood movie. What a great debut to this great British actor here in the U.S .
It’s funny cause many people think he was already a talented actor before this only to realize this is his first movie and blown away by his performance.
@@robertdurant7934 he was already known in Britain cause he was a staged actor in theatre.
The best christmas movie. So damn good
except it in no way is a christmas movie...
@@Spottedfeather its set at Christmas. at a Christmas party....
@@Ooog__ that doesn't make it a christmas movie. it's not about christmas. The party could be a new years party. John could be going to see his family for a birthday instead of christmas.
@@Spottedfeather it gives me christmasy feels
@@Spottedfeather not to mention the Christmas music and references
"...there's a happy ending to every miniature story!"...And THAT is what makes it a Christmas movie. Also, I think I fell in love when Ellis got killed and you said "...and I'm okay with that!"
YAY!! You’re back! We’ve missed you 🙌❤️
The point about Hans saying 'who said we were terrorists' wasn't to dispute it but to say that they're not simply there for any message they want to send as everyone assumes.
Glad to see you got a sponsor, that is a high quality projector.
His wife moved for her career, but you blame John for caring more about his career than his family?
Yep, just up and took the kids to the other side of the country...
But seriously, they both have legit reasons for being locationally separated, so the only answer is, divorce. 😔
Or an open long distance marriage 😀😂🤔
From around the same time, and also a must watch: Lethal Weapon
Will give it a look Jin Kazama! ;)
Excellent suggestion!
A popular saying is that “It’s not Christmas until Hans Gruber gets dropped from the top of Nakatomi tower.”
Either way, it’s one of my favorite movies and has been since it was originally released (yes, I’m old, get off my lawn!).
You should really watch The Usual Suspect, it’s probably the greatest thriller/crime move with one of the best endings in cinema.
Shhhhh! Lol.
But yes, absolutely! VK, see that one SOON. Warning: avoid trailers and all social media concerning that one. You're welcome.
Absolutely!!!!!!
Glad they collaborated with you, don't mind the set backs & good things will come to you... eventually!
Ur back with the reaction of my dad's all time favourite movie! This means a LOT to me n I really2 appreciate that😭 THNK U sooo much for reacting to Die Hard!🙏
Noooooooooo THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND SUPPORTING 💕
No. Just because a movie's story is set during a Christmas season, does not necessarily make it a Christmas movie. Unless of course it has themes relevant to Christmas like the classics, A Christmas Carol, It's Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, or more modern fare like Love Actually.
Saw this twice at the cinema the year it was released. Consecutive nights. True story 🙂
Fun Fact: Up until the mid-1960s, all movie villains were portrayed by people with dark hair and brown eyes. It wasn't until Sergio Leone's epic, "Once Upon A Time In The West," that a villain was played by a lighter-haired, blue-eyed actor.
Your comment at 25:15 made me laugh. “Everyone who was a jerk got punched in the face or destroyed”. Lol Enjoyed the video
Oh, wow! I now LOVE benq products. 😍
I will go and buy a bunch of them right now as gifts for my huge family! 🎁

Fun fact, when they shoot the "dropping Hans" scene they where suppost to count to 3 till they drop Alan, but dropped him on 2 to get a better reaction out of him
Nice to see a react…ioneer commenting on De Bont’s cinematography! And the pacing! And the story structure. Plus facial expressions. Subbed!
I saw Die Hard when it was released way back when. This film changed the action genre. Raised the bar, totally.
It shows the vulnerable action hero.
@@tropicalcatdetective hehe Death Train xD
@@Crespwnian Nice, haven’t actually seen that but I had a feeling someone would have made a train-based Die Hard type film at some point.

YIPPEE KI-YAY VKunia! 😉
Die Hard 2 takes place at Christmas time at the airport in Washington DC. That sounds like the movie you previously watched. These two are the only ones that take place at Christmas.
I would say this is a Christmas movie the same way the first Lethal Weapon was a Christmas movie.
Lethal Weapon is a film I’ve always felt was simply a movie set at Christmas rather than a Christmas movie.
It’s hard to explain why though because Die Hard definitely feels like a Christmas movie to me.
Tuggernaut Express I would say there are more overt Christmas references in DH.
@@MrSmithla Yes especially in the score
It's totally a Christmas movie! Heck, they play Let It Snow over the end credits! XD
Also, I saw your full reaction, hat successfully stayed on lol
Also there’s lots of subtle Christmas themes woven into the main score, such as Winter Wonderland etc.
Now that we have established that Die Hard is a Christmas movie can we also confirm The Long Kiss Goodnight is also a Christmas movie?
Every Shane Black movie is a Christmas movie. Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3.
@Mathias Müller I loved Geena Davis in that. She and Samuel L. Jackson made a great team.
@@shouryu Long Kiss Goodnight and Last Boy Scout are really good, really fun movies and both are really underrated.
Why the hell not?
And Invasion USA.
What...? He is that in all the three great movies. The new garbage movies are generic action.
If you’d like another contemporaneous Christmas movie, try Long Kiss Goodnight. Gina Davis and one of the best Sam Jackson stints. Merry Christmas!
It deserves a lot more interest than it gets. Sam Jackson has said it was one of his favorite roles.
It's interesting cause Shane Black wrote that movie, and then wrote/directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and then Iron Man 3, both of which take place at Christmas time. apparently dude just loves including Christmas in his movies lol
is that a christmas movie ? I know Die Hard isn't.
@@Spottedfeather Well, it happens at Christmas. Gina Davis is in a Christmas parade.
@@MetaphorUB it happening at christmas doesn't make it a christmas movie. It has to be about christmas. Die Hard isn't a christmas movie.
I don't think the exchange at 15:46 was really NY vs CA, since the police officer John befriends is also from CA. The guy in charge is just an idiot. And, isn't that always how it goes? haha
Please react to Die Hard 2 and the third one Die Hard With A Vengeance. They're both great and reaction worthy.
If you liked this one, you'll love "Lethal Weapon"
See...now I have to rewatch the Lethal Weapon series. Thanks! LOL!

And he can relay the info to the LAPD to look into.
The killing of Ellis is one of the most enjoyable scenes in cinema lol
You should read the book it was based off. It is dark and depressing and no one wins
It's not christmas until you watch Die Hard.
It's not christmas until you see hans gruber fall from the nakatomi building.
Long time no see. I missed your humor.
Awwww 💕 I hope you enjoyed the reaction😊
@@VKunia I sure did. Have a great upcoming week. 🙂
This was a pretty awesome video. Glad you came to the Christmas conclusion!
5:19 So by taking the famly to LA for the sake of HER career, does that not mean she cares more about her career than her family ? Why does her career have more value than his ?
And took the kids from their father.
The Die Hard with an airplane was Die Hard 2, also set at Christmas. The next best one though is 3, Die Hard with a Vengeance
Telling them, leaving the body, leaving the messages, it's mental warfare. It also draws the enemy towards his location - controlling that battlefield.
You hope I like a Die Hard reaction? Ha! It's only my favourite Christmas movie!
and Halloween is my favourite easter movie...
