He was pissed at almost every festival during that era cause someone fucked up the sound mixing or somehow made the music/vocals cut out. It not only made the band look bad, but made the audience want to leave. You'd think after the first incident it would stop, but it continued the whole tour. The whole team needed to be replaced 💀.

They will definitely get you hooked. Every album has it’s own sound and vibe to it, so it always feels fresh but never lacks that Dir En Grey feel. There’s no other band like them out there. It’s also one of those bands where the live versions are on par if not better than the studio versions of songs.

I felt so bad that this was the introduction so many people got to Dir En Grey... The amount of technical difficulties they had with this performance (including the vocalist being sick) was horrible. These guys are legendary, and the vocalist is only comparable to Mike Patton in terms of range. Please, I beg you to listen to their live symphonic version of Decayed Crow.

He does cup the mic sometimes when he does the low gutterals but he is certainly also able to achieve those same lows without. A lot of his movements and mannerisms are done for the entertainment aspect I believe.

This is just the tip of the iceberg with Kyo's uh. Vocal acrobatics, lol. They had So many technical issues with this show that as a fan it's hard to not feel you got a bit cheated on the experience. There's a couple songs that you'll see recommended for some of the highlights of his voice - Vinushka, Dreambox, dozing green, decayed crow to just name a few. I'll try drop links to the more beloved performances if you're interested :)

He's self taught with no actual vocal training, so you won't hear any text book vocal from him. That's what makes his vocal sound even more unique though.

Well, here you are 10 years after that concert, getting the same introduction to the band that causes a lot of 'metalheads' to talk trash about this band to this very day. They just didn't get the awesomeness back then and are sticking to their opinions like small children ;)
This is an interesting introduction though. They experienced a lot of technical difficulties that day that even lead to a last minute change in the setlist. The band was not pleased with their performance.
I highly recommend listening to some newer material. My suggestion would be The World of Mercy. The link leads to a live without audience that they did in March 2020 [and live streamed for free to UA-cam]
ua-cam.com/video/Lj8Ls01Zmo8/v-deo.html [the video comes with English Subtitles provided by the wonderful Kaya].
But every song that has been suggested so far is perfect for a second reaction and I am really curious to hear/see a reaction to any of those!
Thank you for this one and I hope you are having a great day!

As old as this show is, glad you enjoyed it! React to some newer stuff, ideally after 2015 (2013ish was a hard year if you wanna hear vocals as Kyo was struggling with throat issues ). He's advanced in his techniques an insane amount since, though you can find something fantastic in every era! I suggest Vinushka from the androgynos lives if you want the broadest vocal range in a single song possible.

To be completley honest, I hated DEG back in my teens. And even now I think their early live performances are not that ... good. That said, I fully embrace their more recent live performances up to the point where DEG became one of my favorite bands out there. Kyo got so much better on his vocals over the years and he is without doubt one of the best and most versatile metal vocalists out there today. Give some other live videos a listen and you will be even more amazed. As others mentioned here, Vinushka live is a good starting point: ua-cam.com/video/8W0h2yht6IA/v-deo.html

Let me disagree with your subjective opinion. Yes, in the past, Kyo didn't always do the job when it came to live performances. However, it was only a period of time. And as far as I know, it was due to Kyo's health. But when I watch live performances from the last few years, Kyo sings really great. I've watched a lot of reactions to Dir en Gray songs live over the past few years and most of them are really delighted with Kyo's vocal abilities.
Let me just add that maybe it is worth considering how subjective your opinion is on this matter, since everyone else strongly recommends Kyo's live performances. And I also recommend, Vinushka, Diabolos, Decayed Crow symphonic version, Uroko, Ningen wo Kaburu.

I will say more, if I have to compare studio recordings to live performances, in studio recordings everything is really great, but it's a studio recording and you know it's done in the best possible way. However, the studio recording does not even half reflect the energy and passion that Kyo shows in live performances. Maybe you are the only reasonable fan of Dir en Gray, but only in your own opinion 😉

    • @siriusql

      @@joannacendrowska5049 He is reasonable.
He doesn't want to admit that kyo got way better, and stands by it.
      So it's reasonable x)
It's also true(er) to say that nowadays, and with the care he puts to his throat and all the singing training he took (I mean, by himself but still) he's just on another level.
Very rarely we got 5 octaves male (especially metal and even more "core"/black[death] whatevers genre] he's even on a [just with ONE note thanks to the whistle fry) 6 octaves.
