I think speedometer will be just fine, the red is the important color.
As far as the odometer, you are completely rebuilding the car, and documenting it on YT, I wouldn't give it too much more thought.
Thanks for the video Matt! 👍

Hello Alvin. Thanks. I really like how it all came out. Character has been added to it along with a.good story of Dad sprying all the numbers of.. lol

Hello Matt. That odometer was a bugger. I think when trying to clean those old parts something like Windex needs to be used first. Even soaking in soapy Dawn soap and water probably would loosen up the gunk and not ruin the plastic or numbers.
I've also had issues with electronic cleaners that ruined plastic surfaces. The speedo repaint looked like it will be ok.
I was going to suggest painting the gauge indicators purple to match the car, but that might have made it too difficult to see them. Lol.

Hello George. So I do like the idea of soaking the parts. It's a little late for mine, but it's a good story of my dad blasting all the numbers off, so I'm keeping it as is. I never thought about the purple for the speedo.

Hey Matt, my first thought was, why was the speedo assembly so dirty? Was this car in a flood or something? Also, you have the speedo assembly apart on the bench, why reinstall a broken odometer? I dont get that decision. I have a box full of good used odometers, Im sure Birds Nest has a box full of them, they are not rare or uncommon. Also, the odometer comes completely apart easily. You could have taken it apart and cleaned it without damaging it. Just sayin, you did ask us to comment so Im commenting. Otherwise, thanks for the video.

Hey Nick. The car sat in a desert area of Colorado for forty years with both windows down. So you can imagine the dirt I cleaned out of this car. I know I can get another odometer but this one will always remind me of when my dad helped me work on this car. I just wanted it to stay apart of it.
