When trying to pull incandescent bulbs, a trick I learned was to use a short length of hose with an internal diameter that is very close to the size of the bulb (should be a snug fit). This may have helped avoid the socket popping out of place. Nice video!
I owned three of those birds in my late teen back between 1968 to 1972 ...that is precisely the method I was told to use by and old Ford dealership mechanic ...it is the best way ever .
Just this past weekend got a 64 Tbird Landau from an Uncle. It's already in showroom condition. Except the brakes! Got a leak somewhere. Other than that a SWEET CAR!
I had a '65 bird briefly in 1976. Though none of the dash lights worked in it. Probably a blown fuse. Now I know what kind of iridescent glow the dash lights should have had. My mom had a '68 Mercury Montclair with that same beautiful iridescent glow.
Hi. Excellent idea on the dash light upgrade. My only question is, which color option did you use in your application? On the site there is "warm 2700K, cool 6100K, ect.
Great replacement upgrade.....help some of us out here who have watched and would like to do the same......What is the build replacement number for the upgrade, and where can you find them.....Thanks. 66 Bird owner here.
Question: Which white LEDs did you use, the cool or warm? One must select one or the other to purchase off the website link you provided. Regards, John
When removing the light are you only taking out the bulb? These lights don't fit with only the bulb removed. When you removed the bulb in the video you never showed exactly what you removed
I've read the comments and watched the video multiple times. I also explained in the video that I am unable to see exactly what you pulled out. I simply want to know did you only pull out the bulb or was the bulb attached to something 🤔
Dude find a piece of rubber hose to put those bulbs in the pliers are going to crack the bulbs sooner or later. Playing "Operation" is not the way to go. The thinnest rubber or silicone tubing will work the best if you can grip the end of the lamp with it. I know others have said it but it is worth repeating!
To each their own. The dimness of the incandescent bulbs is really obvious in our modern LED world. 22 years ago when I had a 65 I didn’t notice the difference so much.
@@thedadlife1080 are they dimmable I'm trying to get a whole perspective of this here if I want them bright or can I bring them down to what they were originaly.
Can anyone suggest how we might research a 66 T-Bird back to the original new car sale? The oldest receipt and motor vehicle inspection was 1998. It was sold as a used car. The VIN is non-standard on that car and we have had no luck working through MVA, CarFox or Kelly Blue Book. Any suggestions gratefully accepted and appreciated.
I would try getting a Marti report from Martiauto.com. You should be able to secure the original gate release form that will tell you what Ford dealership the car was originally sold to.
I went with white because of the green plastic inserts behind the gauges. Trying to keep it as original as possible, while taking advantage of modern components.
Hello just had my 64 tbird rewired and took it out last night while it was light brighter could be better what is the code for the leds you've used, nothing on rockauto.
@@thedadlife1080 Yah no kidding. With a wife and three kids I have just been pecking away at mine. It's pretty much done besides wanting to get the trunk completely carpeted.
Someone has rubbed the chrome plating off of the numbers on the speedometer. Those are had a nasty habit of jumping into reverse all by themselves when idling. To further increase the excitement/danger the emergency brakes would automatically release when this happened. This was a MAJOR safety issue and it happened often as the complex shift linkage aged. This was before the age of recalls I believe!

Outstanding. I'll be ordering some for my 65 tbird today.

sweet love those LEDs. I want those in my 69 Skylark! My dash lights is dull too!
It’s a low cost investment with a high output ROI.
Thanks for the video, super helpful! Did you ever change the lights on the Speedometer area? I'm wondering how that went as mine need to be replaced.
I haven’t yet. When I do I will make a video.

I bought the warm.
Thanks. Very cool, my friend. I'll be doing the same.

Great. Are you upgrading the headlights with LEDs? Check out Vintage Thunderbird, he upgraded.
I’ve been thinking about it. The next step is to upgrade the rest of the interior and tail lights.
My uncle and grandparents both had 1964s and I got to drive them and my opinion, koolest dash of all vehicles and especially at night. Too bitchin.😉
I agree! When I had my ‘65 in High School my buddies thought the dash looked like a spaceship.
@@thedadlife1080 And that speedometer as far as I know supposedly was a flow of the liquid metal, Mercury.

Some will, you just need to buy one that specify it.
