      Mozart* died in 1791 and the first audio recorder was invented in 1877 and video recording was invented in 1951 so no, Mozart has not been recorded to play like this. Idk where you got that info but it's wrong.

      The pedals are not meant to take this kind of beating, more specifically the pedal he's repeatedly stomping is called the "una corda pedal" or the soft pedal which on Grands pushes the action to one side so that the hammers only strike 1 or 2 notes, causing a different sound or on an Upright (such as this one and is obvious from the video) brings the action closer. Doing this too hard or constantly (such as in this video) can be damaging to the action as the pedals and the action are meant for light/normal use.
      The Piano may very well be a percussive instrument by all technicalities but not this way.

      Italo's Music Studio - Music Theory, Piano and more!
      If the piano can't take it, it seems like a flaw to me. I would guess that it is more of a case of people being overly cautious. Am I certain? No. I am probably the least knowledgeable about pianos in this thread. But I do understand people and general mechanical things. And most people are unwilling to take something to ten tenths because they fear damage. That fear is usually unfounded. This is true of anything, not just pianos. The better quality something is, the less there is to fear.

    • @italobrettmusic
      @italobrettmusic 7 років тому +8

      Yes while that is understandable that better quality products can take more usage at less risk of damage, you really have to take into account WHAT the intended use of that product is. Using the example of the Piano, the action (The hammers, keys, etc) are not meant to be used as a kick drum/auxiliary percussion instrument. They're meant for light, gentle use, misusing it (Like in this video) will reduce the lifespan of the action as it is being used for something it is not meant for. I'm no Piano tech but I do have the basic understanding of how these instruments work. This man played brilliantly and gave us all a rousing rendition of one of my favorite Sia songs but something really *must* be said of how he's treating the Piano...

    • @herranton
      @herranton 7 років тому +3

      Italo's Music Studio - Music Theory, Piano and more! I have seen some jazz/bar pianists really railing on their instruments. If the manufacturers don't take that into account while building them, that _is_ a flaw. But to be fair, it is all academic. He has created a piece of art that wouldn't exist otherwise, (and a great one at that). Sometimes you have to break a few brushes while creating a masterpiece. A piano is a tool to create music, not something that deserves respect. If he needed to break a piano to create an awesome piece of music, so be it.

    • @italobrettmusic
      @italobrettmusic 7 років тому +5

      Railing in what way, may I ask? Really playing them roughly or using them as a kick drum as in this video? If it's playing them roughly by playing loud and forcefully then that falls under an intended usage and as a result would be accounted for. I'm not trying to argue here I'm just saying that using a Piano as a kick drum isn't an intended usage of it and manufacturers really shouldn't expect people to be doing that with them.

    You all need to calm down with the piano abuse stuff, a piano is an instrument. an instrument is played at the discretion of the musician to bring the sound and message that the composer intended. so long as its his own equipment or those letting him use it are aware of his intentions on how to play it, it doesn't matter. now sit back and enjoy the amazing talent this guy has.

    • @balebsm
      @balebsm 7 років тому +1

      Oussama Khamlichi I don't know much about pedals but I'm assuming this is being done on purpose. Again I don't know what the 3 pedals do. I always thought they were there to make the sound harder/softer but not the equivalent of a drum or whatever that sound is that he makes every time he steps on it.

    • @sarahclay9958
      @sarahclay9958 6 років тому

      @wildheart25c The pedal he is pushing to give the song a beat is traditionally used to make the sound softer, and although it sounds good it’s wears out the piano ☹️
